feathercoin was well in the dumps far before the algo change..

just sayin
342  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] BlackCoin (BLK/BC) | PoS | No premine | No IPO on: April 26, 2016, 06:20:05 PM
i thought the whole point of new PoS version and reward revision was so people would keep staking wallets online to secure the network.

i guess you still need a wallet online, but you can stake multiple large wallets from a single client now.

kinda defeats the purpose no?

2880rpm with the old S1/S3 fan is very quiet. Its what the Antminer S3 ran on average at my place when it was 25C ambient.
Also the S3 had dual fans and not just one fan.

The S3 used like less than 400 watts and the S7 uses like 1200 watts, how is it possible to move 3 times the wattage with the same type of fan?

Do you know how much wattage you are using from the wall ?

no measure from the wall here.. but yeah i was pleased with the results also.. on top of finally getting the unit running.

considering the BitMain 1382, 1384 and 1385 are all .28nm chips i would assume the efficiency comes from intelligently evolved layout, better components and heat sink design..

i just realized i had the S3 fan backwards too.. so its in pull configuration if that's of any interest to folks.

i've set it to 60% to account for warmer days.. its currently room temperature and the miner is steady at 62 for chain one.. and mid/high 50's for the other chains..

would love to start playing with under volting but after two weeks sitting idle waiting on new parts from china its finally running and i don't want to brick it.

fan rpm is 2880 btw.
345  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S7 is available at bitmaintech.com with 4.86TH/s, 0.25J/GH on: April 26, 2016, 12:31:45 AM
it was the FAN sensor!

although running like a freight train, the single fan shipped with my new S7 had a bad sensor so showed null fan speed, which apparently kept cgminer from hashing.

swapped in an old s3 fan and under clocked a bunch to maintain temps and she is happily hashing away.

450Mhz getting a hair over 3TH/s from most recent batch.

does anyone think bitrmain will somehow compensate me if i send in the old fan? aside from sending me a replacement?

i ordered a bunch of parts for some trial and error troubleshooting on my own accord, but i am really only concerned with the two weeks of mining i missed out on. Sad

once, a priv key is shown though, its possible to import it anywhere. even if you have imported it to an encrypted wallet previously.

step 1) release $100 off coupons to drum up new business

step 2) take down site which is responsible for confirming network connectivity in bitmain cgminer script so miners arrive doa

strep 3) await slew of foolish americans re-ordering parts to troubleshoot because they know support will take weeks to sort out any issues.

step 4) Profit!

Smiley

anyone wanna buy some spare io and bb boards?

yeah its hard for a lot of idealists that see the elegance in crypto.. becoming aware of the underlying greed and profiteering in even the best of communities.

crypto certainly isn't black or white.. you actually need a cipher just to get the spectrum right.

Welcome to the New Beginning

the new beginning of what did/do you mean exactly?

wait and see, new ether order in effect apparently Smiley

grr i havent been staking as often lately.. even though i have older coins.

i'm using an evga 1300w ps, maybe the new one fan units require all 3 power plugs to be populated? tried all three in one board to no avail

Did you try two boards?

Did you try a freq of 600?

That psu may just not have enough juice.

Both idea above would work for you if the psu is short the power needed.

As I recall the new miner uses about 1300 watts dc.

Which would be pushing that psu very hard

tried 475 even.. at factory freq she would shut down after 3-4 mins. at 475 i would just get no reading of hashing boards, x's or otherwise.

picked up the power supply used so i knew it would be a gamble.

if it were any pool other than eligius i would be rolling my eyes.. eagerly anticipating this change.

bit the bullet and opened up the miner.. yeah the hashing boards are just housed in slots for the airflow, only connection is through the ribbon cable out top of miner. the slight rattle is the loose slot tolerance the board slips in to, completely normal and all heat sinks were intact.

it seems like i'm mining but the bb board is not reporting any hashing boards present. and pool stats showing null hash rate..

getting another io/bb board to be safe. man losing two weeks of mining to these issues.. still no email reply to second/follow up query via email.

i agree, i think the pool is needed and somehow i lucked out with broken miners during this dry spell.. so no wasted hash here really.

but its sad to see, is the pool broken too?

356  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S7 is available at bitmaintech.com with 4.86TH/s, 0.25J/GH on: April 18, 2016, 12:17:40 AM
so when a miner arrives with some heatsinks rattling around.. and you want to properly re-adhere them prior to starting the miner up.. how are you supposed to do so without removing the "warranty void if tampered with" seal on one of the screws?

do you have such a miner or is this a hypothetical?
I've got seven S7, none were rattling, but it surely does happen sometimes.
if so, don't start the miner, contact Bitmain for instructions-they will give you permission to open it up, but without proper glue, i don't see how you can fix this yourself-most likely would need a RMA.

bitmain does not seem to respond to their emails very promptly. i waited 3 days for the first correspondence, and on day 4 (including weekend) of the follow up.

is it possible for the hashing boards to have some play in them and make some noise in light back/forth of the miner or should it be rock solid with no noise if you shake it a bit?
357  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Ethereum: Welcome to the Beginning on: April 16, 2016, 11:57:41 PM
lol so you thought the molex and usb slots on the riser board were for whatever option you felt like using?

|facepalm| Smiley glad you sorted this one out.

that does sound like a low hashrate for your card configuration

"slow blockchain" is a bit ambiguous..

i meant there was excessive time (hours) between blocks, likely due to the network difficulty being accustomed to large stakes and those stakes suddenly being withheld.

a slow blockchain sounds like a sync issue and inability to find peers that you can downloads the ledger from.

of course you can not stake without and up to date ledger.. i have not had issues fining peers. ever.

dont know anything about a split threshold.
360  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: R9 Nano Modded Rom on: April 16, 2016, 07:42:26 AM
i thought the algo was most efficient running in increments of 250mhz..

that seems to hash out with my testing too.. for another 50mhz mem clock you should see nice gains.
