Onboarding into bitcointalk is certainly not meant for the masses with the way the rules are in place. You really have to work for an account here. What's amazing to me is so many people I know who use bitcoin don't even have accounts here.

it's alright because there are some people with 20 puppet accounts here so i suppose it all evens out in the end.
322  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Vanitygen: Vanity bitcoin address generator/miner [v0.22] on: May 02, 2016, 03:00:12 AM
has there been a resolution to the

Code:
Match idx: 0
CPU hash: 93b30d0ad99f8133a0bc3c4793a27dbad5a0961f
GPU hash: 0a0db39333819fd9473cbca0ba7da2931f96a0d5
Found delta: 1919 Start delta: 1

issue? i'm running into the error trying to generate a simple vanity address and when using -V verification mode its much slower and i get the same error.

running recent (but not latest) catalyst drivers on AMD 79xx series cards on debian OS, all cards report the same error instead of privkeys.

mines every algo fine otherwise.

dont forget to dig for clams after you're done with it too.
324  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Types of Bitcoin Users on: May 02, 2016, 12:43:23 AM
you know i happened upon a bitcoin meetup that was organized by an exchange one time.. kind of a meet and greet if you will.

i thought it would be a good time but the place reeked of dbag arrogance. i still managed to meet a few good people, and very likely at least one narc, but overall the crowd was not at all what i was expecting.

maybe if it was a meet organized on a regional btc forum or if it was 3-4 years ago i could find the oddballs, fantasists, nerds, criminals and idealists.. cause really they are the more interesting people in life.

but it seems that ship has sailed and the user base is as diluted as most anything else these days.

the story isn't over.. what did you do with them?

that a few days destroyed if you cashed them in.. although i wouldn't blame you.

327  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Mining Altcoins - equipment, profitability on: May 01, 2016, 10:02:03 PM
if you guys all just want to mine whatever flavor of the week altcoin is being released while the network is in building phase, might i suggest services like betarigs or nicehash?

renting hash is just a few percent more expensive than electricity cost to run in even the cheapest of regions.

unless you are scamming free electricity somehow, it really is the no brainer choice.
328  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Ethereum: Welcome to the Beginning on: May 01, 2016, 09:55:31 PM
yeah they are exchange or peer to peer tradeable but what i dont get is do you keep the eth you send in to make the tokens?

i heard something about a 28 day period for holding or something.. i gotta search for a thedao thread.
329  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Mining Altcoins - equipment, profitability on: May 01, 2016, 02:27:49 PM
Hi All

I am thinking of buying some equipment for mining almost every altcoin at the very beginning when it comes out, then wait for the hype and sell them for BTC.

How viable / doable is my idea? Can I do this with GPU mining (like 5 GPUs)? If yes, which GPU should I buy?

I am willing to invest something like $3000 into the equipment.

Thanks in advance for the help and input.

with just 2 posts i would probably spend some more time on the forum and read up before you drop $3k on equipment.

never did like the layout of that forum.. but what a vast resource base to be wiped out in the blink of an eye.

check into whatever you gotta while you still can.
331  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Createrawtransaction on: April 30, 2016, 01:23:47 PM
When you get to the output section, instead of doing "address":amount, do "data":"hex" where data is the word 'data' and hex is the hex of whatever data you want to encode. You will get up to 80 bytes of data.

hey thats easier than i thought, thanks for this.
332  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S7 is available at bitmaintech.com with 4.86TH/s, 0.25J/GH on: April 29, 2016, 04:42:34 PM
specs are that you need 1250watts to run it. accounting for loss its likely over the specs of a evga 1300. taking the safety margin of never using more than 80% load for extended periods its for sure too much.

333  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S7 is available at bitmaintech.com with 4.86TH/s, 0.25J/GH on: April 29, 2016, 03:57:43 PM
I just received my S7-F1 & it will not produce an ip address to configure my miner. It seems to be hashing on the default pool settings Bitmain configures, more profit for them while customers configure or try to configure their miners.

Following the instruction for the s7 pdf & downloading the Chinese version of ipreport the software always reports "has timed out start again" in Chinese, Gooble search translation.

I am sure the unit is mining because it goes full rpm on the fan & gives green LED on the controller board face. I do notice a red LED at rear closest to the ASIC boards, also red LED lights on the front of the ASIC boards. The unit produces heat, telling me it is mining somewhere.

There is a ‘Reset’ button on the right hand side of the Ethernet port, next to the green and red LED light. BTC Power on miner and let it run for 5 minutes BTC, then press and hold the reset button for 10seconds in order to restore to the default settings and reboot. The red LED will flash once every 15 seconds automatically if the reset is operated successfully.

are you on a /16 network? just try 192.168.0.2 through 192.168.0.25 or so in your browser.. this wont work obviously if you have a slew of devices on your network but if you just have a few tablets and laptops you can find the antminer within 5min by allowing each query to port 80 to timeout in your web browser till you hit the open port.

the fan actually turns down from full speed once it begins hashing.. if you have no boards plugged in but the fan connected to the control board, the fan still runs full power.

you can confirm this theory by checking the heat coming from the case.. it should be cold air if its not yet hashing.

i do like however how the default pools are solo mining pools so if an errand customer configure is lucky it hits a block for bitmain Smiley
334  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Is this practice safe? (how to avoid keylogger when I type pass?) on: April 28, 2016, 01:38:52 PM
using an on screen keyboard to type the key with your mouse might alleviate some of your worries mate.

335  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Cannacoin (CCN) | PoW->PoSV | No premine | No IPO on: April 28, 2016, 01:28:04 PM
don't see any "dumps" on bittrex. volume is pretty stingy actually. volume as of now is a whopping 0.08806317 bitcoin heh.

if anything i would be worried about delisting more than disappearing. lets face it, these pot heads will keep the network alive even if the block height does not advance for weeks at a time.

On a separate note has anyone found where you can enable/disable the S7/S5+ Controller boards Data port? It would be nice to either upgrade firmware and enable more than 3 data ports...

have you tried just soldering on new male connectors and hooking up boards? if you leave one board unpowered the miner does not leave ------- if i'm not mistaken is just appears blank. so it may be safe to assume scaling the system up is just a matter of physically adding the parts themselves.
337  Bitcoin / Mining / how about that diff change on: April 28, 2016, 01:06:47 PM
178,678,300,672.00 to 178,672,041,535.12 for a grand total change of about  625,914.. or 0.00004%.

Difficulty rolled over a million in late 2011. i don't think we have seen changes this minute in scale ever. likely some mining operations in temperate climates that have scaled back for the encroaching mild weather? coupled with new miners reaching the network for the first time of course.

miss the days of these helpful and informative posts free of agenda or obvious underlying profiteering motives.

wonder how much of his Eh Ess Eye See powered miners he has left running SHAW 256? I kid Jerry, salt of the cyberspace you are mate.
339  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Ethereum: Welcome to the Beginning on: April 27, 2016, 03:22:27 PM
when it was added to bitfinex it dumped pretty heavy.. possibly on prospect of the short market they have there.

the btc-e addition diversifies the ETH markets a bit, but i was expecting more action upon this landmark achievement.

maybe its just going to be a delayed reaction? the single candle on btc-e's ETH/BTC pairing sure did look nice. Smiley
340  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] BlackCoin (BLK/BC) | PoS | No premine | No IPO on: April 27, 2016, 01:12:42 PM
Is it a good thing when exchanges can stake using their cold wallets? This leads to concentration of staking power. A few exchanges (maybe even one) can "own" majority of the stake

Static POS v3 reward is very good for those who support the blockchain through continuous staking and bad for exchanges with millions of coins
A static reward leads to a decreasing inflation rate and a decreasing reward rate.
https://nm.reddit.com/r/blackcoin/comments/3cfvaa/static_pos_reward_is_coming/

knew i remembered reading something to this effect.

staking cold nullifies these benefits, although agreed they are good in some other aspects.
