741  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Change the name.. does it always have to be wallet.dat in the appdata folder?? on: June 07, 2013, 10:34:03 PM
When backing up your wallet.dat to usb or whatever, I just rename it to whatever coin it is for, eg: Bitcoin.dat, litecoin.dat, shitcoin.dat etc, then if I ever need to use it I know which it is, and then simply rename it back to wallet.dat

Still haven't problems with the QT client.

It hangs at the GUI, but the client operates in the background. You just can't interact with the QT GUI.

Solutions?

aha, figured it out.

It relies on the bitcoin client for some reason, just needed to run bitcoin qt once and bitbar qt will work.

Here it is

If you run your Bitcoin-qt client, and then restart Bitbar-qt, this will resolve the issue. I read this somewhere on the forum and it worked for me  Smiley

If using a QT client, click on 'help'-'debug window'-then the 'console tab'.
Type in 'importprivkey' <with your private key after>

If you are using an online wallet, there should be an option to 'import', just type in your private key and click import.

DO NOT CONTINUE TO TYPE YOUR PRIVATE KEY INTO PASSWORD OR USERNAME BOXES!!!

I think with gpu miners switching to litecoin when asics become mainstream, you would see these miners ''dumping'' litecoin for bitcoin, and bringing the litecoin/bitcoin price 'down'! (until they realise how much faster and more commercial litecoin is, compared to bitcoin) Although bitcoin in my eyes will prevail as a secure store of value, I don't see it as a currency you would buy your bread and milk with at your local store in the future. Get ready for dirt cheap litecoins people!  Grin
