Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Let's get Spotify to use Bitcoins!

We got a reply from Spotify. Unfortunately, not a good one:
Status: Not right now At the moment, we don't have plans to offer Bitcoin as a payment solution. However, speaking more generally, we know the recurring payment model is limiting to some users and we're currently investigating other options. We'll update everyone as soon as we have more information.

Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin will go Viral

Bitcoin is subject to what we business theory calls "positive network effects". It has the exact same nature as Facebook, which also is highly subject to those effects.
So yes, when it hits a big enough group using Bitcoins and there is a huge incentive to use it (let's face it, currently there is not for most people), it will have a growth curve like Facebook and similar services and "go viral".
The problem is the incentive to use it: Most people are quite happy with their credit card and cash.

Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Where is it the most difficult to buy Bitcoins?
|
on: May 15, 2013, 04:44:31 PM
|
As a Dane it's easy to buy Bitcoins. You can easily make a SEPA banktransfer to exchanges like MtGox or BitStamp, and you have Bitcoins within days. You can also use a service like BitcoinNordic which sends Bitcoins within minutes if you've specific banks.
However, when reading in the community, it seems it's very hard to buy Bitcoins in some countries. From what I could gather, countries like United Kingdom and Cyprus has made it difficult.
With "easy to buy", I mean it's accessible by a normal bank transfer. I know the ideal would be credit cards, but we're not in wonderland just yet.
So, my question is: - In which countries is it currently difficult to buy Bitcoins?

Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Right now: Are we just before the big "boom" for Bitcoins?
|
on: April 29, 2013, 10:20:13 PM

I've had some thoughts lately, I would like to share them and hear your thoughts: A month ago we saw the biggest media interest in Bitcoins, we've seen so far. This was way bigger than 2011, and a lot of people actually seemed to believe in Bitcoins for once. Lately we've seen a lot of big players join the game. Globally such as Wordpress, OkCupid and Reddit. Locally in Denmark, the second largest Dating website just started accepting them (Single.dk), and I am sure this is a trend in most countries. We've also seen investments in different Bitcoin companies, and especially BitPay, CoinBase and CoinLab look extremely strong. However, this is not the most interesting part. I know TechCrunch writes *A LOT* of Bitcoins about Bitcoins, but see this article+video: http://techcrunch.com/2013/04/29/chris-dixon-plans-on-investing-in-more-bitcoin-startups-says-more-entrepreneurs-are-getting-involved/6 Minutes in, Chris Dixon starts talking about Bitcoins and Silicon Valley. From what I could understand, it seems A LOT of very professional guys are building Bitcoin stuff right now, or at least have the ideas. So far we've seen very little of this, and in my honest opinion: Most Bitcoins websites are not that professional yet. They will be, with these kind of people building stuff. This will bring Bitcoin to a whole new level, and hopefully bring the services to a lot of new people. I don't know the average time from idea -> launch in Silicon Valley, but I guess it's 3 months at least (and adding 6-9 months if funding is needed). If we estimate many of these ideas started a month ago, I guess we will see A LOT of very interesting Bitcoin startups in 2-4 months. I also think this will bring a huge amount of partnerships to Bitcoins. Many of the people in these areas know how to knock down doors, and make deals. Hopefully, they will do that. Not only Silicon Valley is interesting, of course. Anywhere on earth with entrepreneurs is exciting. Tl;dr: A lot of people are most likely starting Bitcoin businesses right now, and many of them with a skillset we haven't seen that much in the community yet. This will bring partnerships, money and business models to Bitcoins - which most likely - will lead to a greater mass adoption. Discussion: - When do you think these startups will arrive? If ever? - What kind of partnerships will be interesting to see? - What types of businesses will we see first?

Economy / Economics / Re: Western Union - First Large Corporation To Be Killed By Bitcoin
|
on: April 29, 2013, 10:05:04 PM

Western Union is really big in Asia, so they will be an important player for Bitcoins. If I remember correctly, the CEO even mentioned Bitcoins as something they considered implementing.
I think it will happen soon. They are not stupid enough to wait till the Silicon Valley guys kill their remittance income forever.

Economy / Economics / Re: how many bitcoin users are there?

It would be useful to define what a Bitcoin user is first. Is it someone using them for buying stuff, someone who have any or just someone who've shown interest?
I think 100k-250k is a way more realistic figure than 1mio+.

Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin and HTML5

It's also way to early to implement it in a HTML standard yet. However, I do think it's possible when we reach a high percentage of the Internet trade. I guess it should be quite simple to implement an input tag like these: http://www.w3schools.com/html/html5_form_input_types.asp . No doubt in my mind that the wallets should be stored in the browsers in the future anyway, so it would be very obvious (I would love to see Microsoft taking percentages of every transaction ;-) ).

Economy / Economics / Tool: Calculate the future value of a single Bitcoin
|
on: April 24, 2013, 04:17:33 PM
|
As a funny project on the side, I am making a Bitcoin website with some tools and other fun stuff for Europeans. However, I wanted to share one of the tools I made, because I think it's quite funny! "Calculate the future value of Bitcoins"Inspired by Falkvinges blog post about the future value of Bitcoins, I wanted to visualize these numbers. This is also a way to show that the future value of a Bitcoin, if it becomes mainstream, won't be 1000$ or 10000$, but a lot more. Play around with the numbers here: » Calculate the future value of BitcoinsDiscussion: - Does it make ANY sense to make a calculation like this? - What percentage of Bitcoins will be lost / use for investing? - What is a realistic percentage of the world economy (probably closer to 0,1% than 100%)? And for those who missed the link to the tool ;-) : http://www.btcglobe.com/tool/calculate-future

Economy / Service Announcements / Packaging machines for Bitcoins
|
on: April 09, 2013, 06:20:47 PM
|
Some months ago, I decided I wanted to sell packaging machines in Denmark. Why? Because my uncle has loads of them on stock, and I can sell the machines online and get a pretty big share of the profit. A very important thing when having a webshop, is high rankings on Google. How do you get that? Great content and links. Links tell the search engines, this is a site worth ranking. Of course there are other factors (authorship and authority), but the links are still extremely important. So... Who cares? Why talk about this on a Bitcoins forum? What I want to try, is to gain some publicity by accepting Bitcoins. As of right now, Bitcoins is actually the only currency I accept. So the project is about using Bitcoins - for publicity. I simply want to test "how hot" Bitcoins is, and what kind of articles get accepted. Our website: HC EmballeringUnfortunately the site is in Danish, but with international shipping to make it somehow interesting. Therefore I don't know how well the reception will be. The plan?

Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Searching "bitcoin" on Amazon every time we visit it
|
on: April 06, 2013, 04:03:34 PM

Trust me, Amazon knows about Bitcoin ;-) I am pretty convinced the also want to implement it. However, the one thing they fear the most is their conversion rate. Adding a new payment method will, unfortunately, confuse some people.
Till Bitcoin is more known, I doubt we will see it on Amazon.
