It better not be, that would be illegal.
282  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Find the Icelandic mining factory ! on: June 30, 2016, 05:34:35 PM
I find it strange that you pay 0,05 US for hydro power on Iceland. I pay 0,055€ for hydro power on Iceland for a farm of more than 200kW and thats only because i have been with them since beginning 2014, so one of the first i believe. In my price hosting, vpn is part of the price. Every 3-6 month I put out some inq. to other hosting companies on Iceland, and non of them is able to match my present price.
Im willing to dig in to this, so send me a PM with your hosting company and I will let them make me a quote.
One thing I came across is the possiblility to make my own building for my farm, but living expenses, hardware and internet gear eats up the bennefits.

I buy it directly from farmers (as in actual livestock farmer) that have their own hydro power, not a hosting company.

They include hosting and internet connection, they usually get considerably less selling their power to the grid (about 1-2 cents ). I provide them with an reasonable alternative by buying power at a higher rate than the power companies pay them. I move in the gear, they get a better price and have to give me some space which is usually abundant on livestock farms.

More importantly, I pay little for transmission since we don't buy much from the grid (or at all). Provided the mining gear is behind the metering station of the hydro generator you will only pay for power use that is in excess of the generator capacity.

Right now both my locations have limited capacities available, around 55 kW.

If you are interested in such arrangements you have to meet some of the livestock farmers, see if they have the capacity you need and negotiate with them individually. This is usually requires patience since farmers have very long time scales in their operations, they center their work around the seasons and you can expect to wait a few months before it's possible to move in gear.

There are locations that have power available in the 100-150 kW range but they are fairly remote, you can even find upwards of 1 MW sites that sell to the grid but would rather want to sell locally.

If they generally get 1-2 cents why are you paying them 5?
283  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Mining in Winter bellow 0 Celsius? on: June 30, 2016, 04:41:52 PM
This winter I'll definitely be running some test. It will be very interesting to see just how cold and efficient I can run.
284  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain's Released Antminer S9, World's First 16nm Miner Ready to Order on: June 30, 2016, 04:39:46 PM
After closer inspection my order breaks down as follows.

06/30/2016   7:20 A.M.   The package is awaiting clearing agency review. / Your package was released by the clearing agency.
06/30/2016   6:48 A.M.   The package is awaiting clearing agency review. / The package is at the clearing agency awaiting final release.

You have the same time stamps as me and Philip.  Although I do not have the final "Your package was released by the clearing agency." yet.  My guess is that the clearing agency stuff happened yesterday and wasn't entered into the computer and they are all on the same flight to Alaska which left Shenzhen at 7:26 or so last night (Shenzhen time).  I checked my last S9 tracking and it was about 7 or 8 hours between the time it took off from Shenzhen and landed in Alaska so according to my calculations it should probably show up in Alaska in the next 2 to 3 hours.

I think you are correct. I'm crossing all my fingers for a tomorrow delivery.

286  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Are bitfury miners for sale yet? on: June 30, 2016, 02:42:00 PM
To my knowledge they aren't. I know they have built substantial mines for themselves, but nothing yet for the public. I tried contacting them about purchasing their containerized data center and couldn't even get a call back.
287  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain's Released Antminer S9, World's First 16nm Miner Ready to Order on: June 30, 2016, 02:28:29 PM
I had nothing but trouble with the new firmware 24th June 2016, so I reverted back to the original firmware 8th June 2016
Board 1 ran with a low hash rate, ~2-3Th/s.
Back to the original firmware and everything is normal.

I have S9 batch 2.
I'm mining at Kano CKPool.

I tried the new firmware too and saw no improvement for my B3.  However, I took the plunge and installed the low voltage firmware and it helped.  I was getting about 12.6 total hashrate at 587 Freq.  I have one board which just doesn't get up to speed a lot of the time so underclocking it helps.  At 587 I was getting 4150, 4200, 4200 roughly from the boards.  With the low voltage firmware I am running at freq 600 and getting 4150, 4300, 4300 so an improvement of 200 Gh/s (like adding an S1 for free).  Fewer HW errors too.

Meanwhile my batch 4 may have skipped the clearing agency phase; I have never seen that before.  Last notes are an export scan and then a departure scan.  Usually wouldn't see an export scan until after the clearing agency step and that step never happened (or at least it was never noted on the tracking page if it did).

are you like this:

Shenzhen, China   06/30/2016   7:26 P.M.   Departure Scan
06/30/2016   6:07 P.M.   Export Scan
06/29/2016   2:57 P.M.   The package is awaiting clearing agency review. / The package is at the clearing agency awaiting final release.
Shenzhen, China   06/29/2016   10:55 P.M.   Arrival Scan
06/29/2016   10:52 P.M.   Departure Scan
06/29/2016   7:53 P.M.   Origin Scan
06/29/2016   4:21 P.M.   Pickup Scan
China   06/29/2016   10:54 P.M.   Order Processed: Ready for UPS

Yes but minus the clearing agency part:

Quote from: UPS
Shenzhen, China    06/30/2016    7:26 P.M.    Departure Scan
   06/30/2016    6:09 P.M.    Export Scan
Shenzhen, China    06/29/2016    10:55 P.M.    Arrival Scan
   06/29/2016    10:52 P.M.    Departure Scan
   06/29/2016    7:52 P.M.    Origin Scan
   06/29/2016    4:21 P.M.    Pickup Scan
China    06/29/2016    10:54 P.M.    Order Processed: Ready for UPS

Looks like we both have the same time on almost all of our scans too.  There is usually another clearing agency notification in Alaska.  That one usually just goes by quickly without any issues, now I wonder if that one is to catch packages that didn't get it done at the point of origin.  Or like I said, maybe they just didn't update it in the tracking but it still happened as usual.

Alaska is the point mine got hung up last time.
288  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: BW 14nm Miners Update on: June 30, 2016, 08:16:16 AM
Looks like we won't be seeing this miner in june. I was really looking forward to it.
289  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [35+PH] Kano CKPool kano.is 0.9% PPLNS US,DE,SG,DK,JP,FR on: June 30, 2016, 06:26:05 AM
Since I keep being asked in PM and IRC ...

The first of the run of 4 blocks 418424, 418425, 418429 & 418432 only matured about 1 hour before our last block we found.
That happened to be around 18:30pm to 19:30pm ... UTC ... when I was asleep ...

However, I did actually queue them during that time Tongue

However:
Code:
[2016-06-30 19:30:19.898] Block hash changed to ...00000146757f3... 418533
[2016-06-30 19:30:21.343] Block hash changed to ...000003bca2d71... 418534
Our block (418534) was 1.445 seconds after the previous block (418533) so we had a very small block with no free txns in it.
i.e. it didn't confirm the free txn payouts.

The next matured block, 418485, matured after our last block.

Unless that happens again Tongue, those 5 will be confirmed in the next block we find.

1. Kano, I appreciate your never ending dedication to your pool.
2. Miners, you need to realize that Kano sleeps, maybe even leaves his house on occasion. It's not the end of the world if a block payout is delayed. Kano has shown time and time again that he has high ethics and level of honesty.
3. I'd suggest maybe cutting him some slack instead of flooding him with messages the second a payment isn't sent on time. Especially considering how rarely it happens.
4. Kano if  you feel this post is inappropriate please delete it.
5. I'm not directing this rant at any one person, and I don't mean to come across the wrong way. It just made me think back to a guy who was beyond worried about a dust payment not long ago.
290  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain's Released Antminer S9, World's First 16nm Miner Ready to Order on: June 30, 2016, 02:40:46 AM
My expectations after halving -- are that they'll try for $1,800 -- and if demand is still there, it will stay close to there for a long while.

On an other unfortunate note -- I got the dreaded email from DHL...

Quote
EVENT CATEGORY
30 Jun 16 6:59 AM - Clearance delay - SHENZHEN,CHINA, PEOPLES REPUBLIC

Further Details - Shipment is held pending clarification of goods valuation
Next Steps - A DHL representative shall attempt to contact the importer for further clarification or proof of valuation if required by Customs.

I guess that I was forewarned -- probably won't know until tomorrow...

 Huh Huh Huh

I used ups and I am stuck on this:

06/29/2016   2:57 P.M.   The package is awaiting clearing agency review. / The package is at the clearing agency awaiting final release.

MY guess is I will be reading a f u very soon.

Same message for me. Damn I really was hoping for a Friday delivery.

Kano will we be mining segwit here? Just curious, I know your feelings on it from a previous post. Just curious if you'll incorporate it here?
Well, I guess you aren't really sure of my feelings then Tongue

We mine what the bitcoin network deems we must mine.
No one can mine segwit until a fork.

I may not be lol. I just read a article where antpool stated they wouldn't be or something like that. It lead me to believe pools had a choice.
That's a different issue.
That's regarding supporting a fork, or not.
No I don't support the fork, as I've made clear, but no I also don't throw blocks away Smiley
If bitcoin moves to requiring support of segwit, then yes we would have to support it then.

However,
the bitcoin devs, in their little centralised master control of BTC ivory tower, want to change bitcoin so they centralise and control transaction fees.
Aside: they also only work on bitcoin if they are paid enough - this fact was made clear to me, directly by "Wladimir J. van der Laan" who effectively runs the bitcoin git.

They like their little god structure where they can ignore the miners who confirm the transactions, as they showed with BIP100 where support of it was very high, but the devs canned it coz it didn't go with their Lightning network plan to move the transaction fees from miners to them.

The bitcoin design is quite clearly stated by Satoshi.
Mining reward will shift to transaction reward so that bitcoin will continue on it's solid foundations.
That isn't where the devs are trying to move it to now with their greed with the Lightning network to take away the growing transactions rewards, which will grow as expected with the original bitcoin design.

Their design is flawed, however, and hopefully will not get enough support, so I guess it's just a question of how easily people are conned into it.

That makes sense, thanks for the clarification.

294  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Halving is a profitable??? on: June 29, 2016, 08:36:59 PM
Sure it's profitable for common users, but for miners who working without any side help it's so bad, many people lost their work cause of halving.

I agree, miners are going to suffer.
to be honest i doubt that there will be any big problems for miners, when the halving will happen there would be less bitcoins released every block but the price of bitcoin increased a lot, also the difficulty will drop a lot

i think that halving wil be profitable for many of the investors that are holding their bitcoins at the moment, to be honest in my opinion halving is one of the things that moves the price the most

Difficulty is going to drop very little. And will rise back up very quickly. I read a article yesterday that stated 60% of the hash is already 16nm. The rest are s7's and avalon machines they won't make much at all. BTC price will need to increase for miners to profit in any meaningful way.

So for the first time ever during a short period of bad luck I've stuck with a pool, that will be here.
Instead of pool jumping and getting nervous I'm just gonna ride it out and stick with you guys and gals.

To be fair, you all sound an interesting bunch on here and seem fairly friendly.

Catch you all soon.

Happy hashing Kano dudes!

Welcome to Kano Pool  Smiley  You will see it's a great community and i am sure you will enjoy it!

PS : new block  Shocked

Great plan, I had to learn that one the hard way. We had a string of bad luck a few months ago and I started pool hopping. Bad choice on my part.

EDIT: Oh and welcome.

I missed B4 as I have been traveling quite a bit lately, did the price drop below $1975 USD or hold firm?

$1935.00

This batch was under $2000.00. Interesting to see if I'm charged the extra fee.
