821  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: What is the best coin to buy on polo now? on: November 06, 2016, 04:28:46 PM
Is anyone buying ETC?
I know there has been some interest from some Chinese investors to use ETC in a few projects.
Price has been stable and there has been a decent volume. Anyone predicting a rise in price for Eth Classic?
822  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Chinese police raid miner factories in its oil capital city, 1k+ miners seized on: November 06, 2016, 04:25:53 PM
Can someone translate this?
Is it possible to tell what kind of miners those are from the pictures?
I think it would be stupid to risk a lot of new mining equipment by stealing power.

It could be real, growing up I saw people doing illegal power hookups all the time.
(I even know of someone who died trying to hook up illegal wiring.)

823  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] DigitalNote XDN privacy, untraceable, blockchain deposits, Messages 2.0 on: November 06, 2016, 03:24:16 PM
I guess I'm holding my coins for now.
Deposit/ withdraw is still disabled on Poloniex which is a little concerning to me.
824  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: XDN (DigitalNote) Price Speculation on: November 06, 2016, 03:15:22 PM
Bumping this thread.
Anyone still interested in this project? Any news?
Withdraw/ deposit is still disabled on Poloniex. (Not a good sign?)
825  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: litecoin trading in extremely tight BBANDS range, LONG NOW! on: November 06, 2016, 03:12:10 PM
can someone explain what "tight bbands range" is?

Since most of OPs posts are saying Litecoin is dead I'm not sure if this is a trolling post or serious.  Cheesy
826  Economy / Speculation / Re: $700 HIT ^^ TARGET 900-1100 on: November 06, 2016, 03:01:53 PM
From now on I don't expect anything from the price anymore. Every bit of volatility will be thankfully used to gain myself some extra profits.

Yeah every time the price drops closer to $700 I use the extra money I have to buy some BTC.
Thankfully that news story about China regulating Bitcoin allowed me to save a bit on my purchases this weekend.
I still think we will hit the $800 mark, although it may not be until the end of the year or early 2017.
827  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: The Truth About Monero's Risto Pietila (rpietila XMR) - warning on: November 06, 2016, 02:41:09 PM
I think that picture is photoshopped and the Rolls isn't actually pink. Sad
Big respect on a nice classic car, anyways.

Everyone on the internet has an agenda.
Especially when it comes to sites dealing with investments and money.
I've seen some helpful posts from Risto but I wouldn't follow anyones advice blindly. Hopefully other people are smart enough to do the same.
828  Economy / Economics / Re: How to teach kids about Bitcoin? on: November 06, 2016, 02:29:56 PM
I actually think it would be easier to explain Bitcoin to kids than older people, since younger generations are naturally more familiar with computers.
You need to explain the saving/ investing aspect first, which is something that should be taught at a young age anyways.
I really wish schools did a better job of explaining basic economics/ banking/ investment.
That is definitely something teenagers could benefit from to help them in the real world.
829  Economy / Goods / Re: Bitcoin Cross-Stitch! on: November 06, 2016, 02:19:33 PM
Ok this is actually really cool.

This might need to be moved to the Marketplace forum but that is a good idea.
Some details on the cost and shipping might keep you from having to answer a lot of personal messages.
A confirmation in the Reddit thread proving your username/ thread here will also be helpful.
830  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Can Bitcoin make Banks disappear? on: November 05, 2016, 11:59:56 PM
In 2012 HSBC paid $1.3 billion in fines for "conducting transactions on behalf of customers in Cuba, Iran, Libya, Sudan and Burma, all of which were on the sanctions list."

In 2014 BNP Paribas "agreed to pay almost $8.9 billion in penalties and pled guilty to settle charges it concealed roughly $8.8 billion of transactions with countries like Sudan, Iran and Cuba."
BNP Paribas pulled in 42.938 billion Euros ($47.84 billion) in revenue in 2015 and has nearly 2 trillion Euros in assets...

Although Bitcoin is starting to get noticed by banks and those in power of politics, its still just a drop in the bucket.
Even a market cap of $11 billion is nothing for the established banking system.
831  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: November 05, 2016, 10:56:13 PM

I do wish there was a list of coins used for the data graphs,
although I'm sure someone could pull up a list of coins and their release dates.

And I would totally buy a print of "shit runs downhill". Reminds me of a Jackson Pollock painting.
832  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is bitcoin being used for illegal activities on: November 05, 2016, 10:14:29 PM
Its probably just some lazy reporters looking for an easy story.
They need to have a hot new topic to report on, and kids buying drugs on the internet is something that people will read.

If we started seeing this type of news on a consistent basis on more mainstream news outlets,
then I would start to believe there was some form of misinformation campaign going on.
833  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] FACTOM - Introducing Honesty to Record-Keeping on: November 05, 2016, 09:14:25 PM
Factom is one of the only crypto projects currently selling a real service, and as most people on this sub are aware, the rate of adoption is significant:

Where are the figures in this document from?
834  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM (XEM) Official Thread - 100% New Code - Easy To Use APIs on: November 05, 2016, 07:15:27 PM
Nice promotional video.
I'm surprised this hasn't gotten more attention.

I'm going to invest a couple more dollars into XEM.
Seems like a project that could have a future.
835  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will a transaction denied by the receiver Get returned? on: November 05, 2016, 06:37:59 PM
I don't believe there is a way for a Bitcoin address to "deny" a received transaction,
so this is probably a Netteller function.

Hopefully someone on the forum is more familiar with Netteller.
There may be nothing you can do but wait the 3 days for them to process a refund.
836  Economy / Economics / Re: Why have Bitcoin instead of cash? on: November 05, 2016, 05:42:35 PM
You dont need to provide any personal information for buying bitcoins these days.

I disagree.
Please explain to me how you would go about buying say,
$10,000 worth of Bitcoins right now without providing any personal information on any site.

I would argue that Bitcoin is far from anonymous.
Unless you already have the coins in your possession, and never want to convert them to fiat ever,
at some point you need to tie it to your personal information.
837  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: NEver keep all your coins on an exchange on: November 05, 2016, 05:34:00 PM
I would be interested to hear what traders do to limit their risks.
How much do you feel comfortable keeping on an exchange?

When you are invested in multiple coins it becomes messy.
I certainly do not want to have ten different wallets installed and keep track of keys/ passwords for all of them.
But even with 2FA turned on I do not feel comfortable having a large amount of money on an exchange...
838  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What is the best source of bitcoin nowadays? on: November 05, 2016, 04:43:55 PM
I like to trade some altcoins but the market is so volatile its a gamble.
I usually trade pretty safe so I've never lost more than 10-20% on an investment.

For me earning money working a job and buying Bitcoin when I have extra money is fine.
I won't get rich overnight but hopefully the market doesn't totally crash and wipe out my investment, either.
839  Other / Meta / Re: Database leak? Receiving e-mail spam to address exclusively used on Bitcointalk on: November 05, 2016, 04:40:46 PM
Someone tried to reset the password on my Facebook account yesterday, the same email is used to register on this forum.
Could be a total coincidence but if other users are experiencing the same thing its worth looking into at least.
840  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Tesla's building a solar roof , It can be a good days for bitcoin miners? on: November 05, 2016, 04:38:31 PM
solar panels are only cheaper based on their 10 year lifespan, not on making bitcoin profits in 6months

This is a very important point.
If you look at the cost of a solar panel setup, usually you are looking at a 10 year or 20 year timeline to get ROI.

If you are talking about Bitcoin mining you already have to factor in the ROI of an ASIC miner costing upwards of $1500-2000 for new units.
Adding in solar panels is another big investment.
There are some members here who have done solar panel mining. I'm sure they could provide some numbers on the cost/ benefits/ ROI time.
