661  Other / Off-topic / Re: Who controls the Bitcoins? on: November 28, 2016, 11:00:35 PM
Right now China has a bit of an edge in terms of mining, user adoption, etc
but Bitcoin is still pretty de-centralized.
That could change with the completion of several huge Bitcoin farms in China, however.
I feel like once these farms are complete, there is actually a small problem with China having too much hashing power compared to the rest of the world.
662  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Why Good Altcoins Fail on: November 28, 2016, 01:41:49 AM
Its hard to predict what coins will catch on and which will not.

Burst for example, is a great project with a fully-developed GUI wallet that incorporates mining right into the wallet.
They also have some really cool ideas like an "asset exchange" where you can buy stock (basically) in a project and share in the profits that are returned.
But, the price remains low, lower than other coins that I would say are total garbage.
Will Burst become more popular? Only time will tell.
663  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Litecoin 0.003 BTC by year's end (mega crash, LTC has 3 months left!) on: November 28, 2016, 12:25:24 AM
Dead coin.
Everyone seems to have forgotten about LTC.  Tongue
Even Trezor wallet announcement had almost no effect on the price.  Tongue
664  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Litecoin: Prepare on: November 28, 2016, 12:23:17 AM
LTC seems pretty dead lately.
I was hoping the Trezor wallet announcement would have some positive effect, but it barely made any difference in the market.
Everyone seems to have forgotten about Litecoin, which is sad, because its one of the more decent alt-coins.
665  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Possible malware in latest Bitcoin Core (64 bits bitcoin-qt.exe)? on: November 28, 2016, 12:21:40 AM
Some antivirus flag anything that has to do with Bitcoin, or alt-coins as a virus.
For example, some of the Monero mining programs are flagged by Malwarebytes and Google as a virus,
probably because there were some botnets mining coins, and the programs trigger on the same heuristics.

Still, OP or anyone else who has information on this should follow up in this thread,
since there have been instances of github and similar websites being hacked and binaries or compiled programs being replaced with backdoored versions.
666  Economy / Speculation / Re: Explanation for the 710-750 drops? on: November 28, 2016, 12:16:41 AM
If you can sell a coin and make $400 right now, thats a great deal of profit.
You can always buy back in if price starts to go up, and there is always the chance that price drops back to $700 or below and you can make $50 or so.
It all depends on your need for money, I guess.
667  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: best alternative to bitcoins on: November 28, 2016, 12:12:35 AM
Any investment is going to be a gamble. There is no way to know if any coin will ever become as popular as Bitcoin.
If anything has a chance, it would probably be something that already has strong support,
like Ethereum or Monero.
Both of those would probably be a decent long-term investment.
668  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: How Scamcoins work. on: November 27, 2016, 08:39:34 PM
Op, posted this info almost year ago, but the sad part is that mechanism of altcoin cloning it is very much correct and true even today.
It is possible only because people are full of pure stupidity fueled by greed - and they know perfectly well how most altcoins are created - they don't need the warnings like that.

Everyone is looking for a way to make a quick buck, and investing in cryptocurrency is the hot new thing.
There are people that are becoming millionaires overnight. Mostly its the developers of these new coins, scammers running ICOs that go nowhere, etc.
Unfortunately that money has to come from somewhere, and mostly its new investors that are putting in a couple hundred dollars and losing it.
669  Economy / Economics / Re: why the sudden increase of Forex topics in this board. on: November 27, 2016, 08:35:51 PM
And the margins they offered were suicidal unless you literally had millions of dollars

Most institutions like banks set fees like this purposely because they really don't want to waste time unless you are investing millions.
It's just not worth it for them to handle the account unless the fees they make are worth their while.

I'm interested to see what services people are using for forex trading if you are only talking about a few hundred/ thousand dollars,
and the fees that you are paying for this type of service.
670  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: For the benefit of trader on: November 27, 2016, 03:59:30 PM
I would like to hear what sites/ services people are using for forex trading.
What types of fees are you paying?
Are there any sites you frequent for tips/ information on trends in forex? How are you making your decisions.

Right now is a very interesting time for forex, since we have a new US president coming into office who is promising lots of changes in trade deals and foreign policy.
There might be a big change in some currencies depending on the deals Donald Trump comes up with.
671  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] -NEW BURST OP- MINE ANY FREE SPACE-(HDD MINING)- ATs, AE, P2P MARKET+MORE! on: November 27, 2016, 03:15:29 PM
Glad to see people are active on the asset exchange part of this project.
It's definitely one of the most interesting things about Burst.
Burst dev team has really come up with some great stuff so far.
Really hoping this coin catches on in the future. So much more potential than many other projects.
672  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: BURST Android mining on: November 27, 2016, 03:08:50 PM
Burst is a really good idea, actually.
Since it doesn't use much power, it's much more environmentally friendly than having a ton of ASIC miners drawing huge amounts of power.

This might be important in the future if we want the average person to be able to generate coins, and not be forced to rely on local fiat systems.
As it stands right now, the average person can not become a Bitcoin miner, so the dream of freeing people from fiat currency through BTC is not going to happen.
If we keep developing technology that allows the average person to become a miner, this is a dream that actually might be possible.
673  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: >>> PUMP WATCH <<< on: November 27, 2016, 03:04:32 PM
Yobit has a ton of coins getting pumped every day.
You can make some money if you can get in early, since there are coins seeing 200-300% increase every day.
But its really risky since the dumps happen really fast, too.
I wish I had some inside information for some of these pumps!
674  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [ARK] Speculation on: November 27, 2016, 02:52:19 PM
Lisk and Ethereum seem to be a little bit stagnant right now, at least in terms of price.
I think both projects, and things related to them like Ark and Augur are good long-term investments,
but for the short term, I would only buy at really low prices, since I think it might be a while before any of these coins turns a profit- six months to a year range.
675  Economy / Speculation / Re: Buy bitcoin? on: November 27, 2016, 02:49:21 PM
Right now, if you buy for a long term investment, you are probably okay.
But price has been kind of stagnant for the last few weeks.
It probably won't go back above $750, and it could drop back to the $700 mark.

So if you are in for short-term buying/ selling, the margins are really thin right now.
676  Other / Archival / Re: Which one is better for bitcoin future? Mass adoption or huge price increase? on: November 27, 2016, 02:47:06 PM
Mass adoption is the only thing that will lead to a huge price increase.
There is a reason price is sideways recently.
We need more users, and more services that accept Bitcoin.

You are never going to see the $5000 BTC that some people dream about until some company like Amazon, iTunes starts accepting Bitcoin,
and we get millions of new users.
677  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin is Freedom on: November 27, 2016, 09:50:53 AM
Bitcoin was created with the idea that it could provide financial freedom, but we are a long way from the dream.
Unless you are already an early adopter who made millions, you are still going to need to earn fiat, convert money into BTC, etc.
Becoming a miner requires cheap electricity, thousands of dollars in equipment...
Possibly in the future we can provide a way for people to avoid fiat, but for now Bitcoin is just a payment system.
678  Economy / Speculation / Re: voting: $750 in 1/12/2016? on: November 27, 2016, 03:15:16 AM
We've been going back and forth between $700 and $750 for a while.
It will probably stay in this range unless there is some big event to push price in one direction or the other.
679  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Improve your daily bets with this spreadsheet!! on: November 27, 2016, 02:05:16 AM
I believe you can also use Open Office, which is free, to open Excel documents.
https://www.openoffice.org/

May be safer than downloading a cracked version of Excel.
680  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: EBay and Bitcoin on: November 27, 2016, 12:48:46 AM
Paypal will remain the preferred payment method because it gives them more control,
and the ability to collect fees twice.
(Once from item being listed and again when its paid for.)
