maybe next days price rocket to over 150 satoshi...

I think it'll shoot up past 120 again sometime today. Price is being manipulated way to much for a large party not to be planning something
To be honest I wouldn't be surprised if there was a good bit of manipulation, but there may be some downward pressure on price due to the marketplace.

For me, I thought the stable floor was at 105, and with a differential of 12%, that would make a downward pressure cap at around 90. But it's clearly gone through that barrier. It could be due to the recovery trend of BTC or downright manipulation. The fact that market cap has dipped below $300k is concerning though.

It is definitely a bot I have been battleing and it has deeper pockets (well at least online Smiley).

I've wasted 2 days fighting it and if I had gone and played poker I'd be up 1/2 a grand by now. LOL this shit is too addicting, Also the snow is really piled up out there! Anyone ever heard of James Woods? I beat him for $450 one hand last month. Smiley That was fun.

i was fighting the same thing ( maybe the same person) over on coinmarket.oi last week. i do find it interesting, that Noble has garnered this kind of attention from a big pocket guy.

any ideas as to how to combat this kind of action?

what steps are you taking to battle it?
whats he doing?

I would caution against combating significant manipulators (especially if their pockets are big enough). The best that you can do is take from their share by obtaining profits along the way. When their share starts to be impacted it provides a slight bit of disincentive.

If you feel compelled to combat strong downward pressure, don't make the mistake of making a huge wall. A lot of the time, that's exactly what they want.
742  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Fried my damn graphics card :( on: February 17, 2014, 06:50:31 PM
Associated honesty: though I'll always recommend top-shelf PSUs to others because I'd feel bad if their families had their faces burned off, I run the shittiest shit able to be shit out the shit-maker. You know - the not-even-gold-certified OEM garbage which hums so loud you can't even hear people in the same room, which is on 70% clearance sale direct from the manufacturer's warehouse of misery and regrets, where they ship it out with the metal enclosure mangled and barely hanging onto the actual PSU, where you have to bang it back together with your fists before jamming it into the cheapest case you could find so it can run on the $30 motherboard utilizing the latest 1-star 2005 refurb HDD (complete with an IDE connector) semi-attached to the case by only one screw. Grin

This made me seriously LOL Grin. I've run a few machines like this myself and they're surprisingly resilient!

Update on the graphics card:

I removed the casing, the fan and all the foam, gave it 10 minutes in the oven at 180, left it half an hour to cool, reassembled and....

...good as new, and hashing at 10KHash faster than before Wink

Rit.
Very nice. I know doing this works sometimes (sometimes points disconnect due to continuously "high" heat). It is quite interesting that it is running 10Kh/s faster. Anything you did in particular when reassembling it?

745  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What makes a whale? on: February 16, 2014, 05:40:57 AM
I tend to agree with most people on the forum in that a whale is someone with 1000+ BTC. But I guess for my own succinct comparison, I prefer to consider whales those with $1M or more in crypto and can frequently make trades to turn a profit. [I think that second point is kinda important since those that turn a profit are the ones who alter the markets more.]
746  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Appeal to the community for the development of MC2 and related technologies on: February 16, 2014, 05:32:35 AM
You definitely have my support on this! I feel that if you're not satisfied with your graduate studies then do what will bring satisfaction; especially since you have a route that you can pursue right now. One of the biggest shames in life is to pull back and be afraid to chase a dream.

You've done a bunch of awesome things for the community (just regarding alt cryptos: your posts on making a scrypt mining rig and then following that with a scrypt GUI-Miner)! And your whitepaper for MC2 is really solid and you did great discussing the questions in that thread about the concept and the whitepaper. I'm sure there will be tons of support for you on this.
747  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: The demise of DOGE and how it is affecting our income on: February 15, 2014, 01:50:02 AM
Doge is doing way better than anybody could have ever hoped for. You were lucky to be making $23 a day, and you are still lucky to make $12. Another month and you will be down to $5, regardless of how many shitcoins are made. The money has to come from somewhere. It's not like each shitcoin is bringing in new money. A dogecoin is rare, the rest of these shitcoins are bought by the same group of speculators, and adding a hundred new coins a day isn't going to magically bring in new money.

The money sadly comes from those who spent $15,000 on BFL and other ASIC equipment and now making only 0.01 BTC/day but they still run it bcase it has no reasonable resale value.

If BTC owners decided not to buy alts then shitcoins would die.

If a DOGE - US$ trading exchange opens up then BTC would die.

Huh. You may want to reference a mining calculator. When KNC's Jupiter was released, it was set to hash at 500 Gh/s and you could get it for $8k. Even right now, that gets nearly 0.1 BTC/day. Scale accordingly for $15k.

Not sure how you got your numbers...

Thanks for the correction, yes my numbers were off by a good scale.

My point is in cost of ownership, depreciation in other words:

$8k in GPU RIGs, would be equal to about 4 rigs totalling 11MH/s and makes about 0.1 BTC/day
$8k in KNC Jupiter will also make 0.1 BTC /day

After electricity. BUT and here is the big BUT:

$8k in GPU RIGs is worth $5000 in two years - NET COST $3,000
$8k in ASICs is worth $1500 in two years - NET COST $6,500

Look at what happened to the $90 USB miners the 333 MH ones, they are pretty worthless now even the 1.6GH/s ones. So depreciation was almost 100% on those.

Yes, that is true. Those who got a lot of the USB Miners have definitely taken a loss (if they haven't gotten them early enough). Wouldn't disagree with that at all. To get to the heart of your point, yes ASICs essentially depreciate to the value of raw materials. (However, if you spent $15k, getting USBs wouldn't have been prudent and frankly you'd deserve losing your money.)

That being said if you dropped the cost of getting a Jupiter when preorders first came out (just under a year ago) versus investing 8k into 4 scrypt mining rigs at the same time, the Jupiter has made significantly more money than 4 mining rigs did. (Of course we get into the pedantic argument about risk and all that stuff. So let's not go there. There has been tons of losers. In a sense, you can say that at least with Scrypt Mining Rigs, there has been less "risk.")

On the other hand, 4 mining rigs would make up its cost. But it didn't get as much additional revenue

749  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Rant: To Bitcoin "investors" on: February 14, 2014, 11:40:09 PM
But weak hands make everything "fun and exciting."

Sure price volatility is annoying, but at the same time, it breathes life into a market. The thing is that every financial instrument runs on some sort of volatility. The way I see it, this volatility actually adds value to Bitcoins.
750  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / What Do you Think Constitutes Big/Medium/Small Time Miners? on: February 14, 2014, 10:38:19 PM
It looks like there are many many more people frequenting this sub-forum, and accordingly many more miners. So I'm curious: in terms of Kh/s (or Mh/s), what would you consider the bounds for a small-time miner, an average miner, and a big-time miner? And if you're so inclined, why do you set the boundaries at those points?

754  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][NOBL]*NOBLECOIN*-*MARKETPLACE LIVE*-*28 MERCHANTS/CAUSES*-*5 EXCHANGES* on: February 14, 2014, 01:34:49 AM

After quite a heated discussion last night this is our stance on fiat (at this point) and private selling of cards for fiat (or noble for that matter – as fiat/credit card is still required to receive the bought Amazon card). It is an IRC convo I have pulled together - feel free to keep discussion going and PM me, but there is a lot to it.

'Just a heads up, with BTC being enabled (with profits going to purchasing noble) and amazon.cn getting added shortly the bulk of this is in some ways addressed. I’m sorry I lost my cool but the amount of heat on us at the moment is ridiculous. As well as my own reporting for regulatory and tax reasons we already appear like were acting as an unofficial money laundering business if someone wants to be critical and assume we’re doing the wrong. We aren’t, but as you can see with all the arrests lately we have to stay as public and professional as is possible in this current scene, with easy to track payments, accounts and orders for anything FIAT related.

If I purchase Amazon cards from international individuals (with either fiat or Noble), the amount of CC fraud (the same as hit our Water Project) means many of the codes are reversed before they are redeemed with no way of retrieving Noble or cash. It also means I’m directly dealing with individuals I don’t know who could be up to anything, rather than buying through single Amazon official regional channels only – to make things easier for tracking and record-keeping. There is a lot more to this than simply opening a WooCommerce store and enabling CoinPayments – I don’t deny that part is easy. The problem is the crypto scene (especially at the moment). PMs and dealing with everyone takes up the bulk of the time, dealing with DDOS attacks, account & order spams, bot spam, covering exchange rates and making sure we can trade Marketplace items internationally and legally.

I apologise if immediate expectations aren’t met, we want to grow this coin and we’re doing a damn lot more than most – but because we are public, because we are legit and because we want to stick around we have to be careful and do things ‘properly’. The last thing I want is to be another figure scrutinized and thrown in jail for 'shady' practices. Crypto is publicly, indirectly ‘accepted’ by Australian law (bitlegal.com also shows it positively). We just have to keep things simple, above table, on the books and pay any taxes on my account and credit card, or extreme heat is on me. Again I apologise for swearing and getting worked up (it was 2am here) - I'm up late and we are doing a lot of work here.'

The second fiat is involved there is regulation, investigation, licensing, huge fees and reporting - any coin that does and has thrown this term around you need to take a critical look at what they are 'sprouting' (it's easier to BS when you're anonymous and have no intent to stick around) and the reality of the situation. There are a lot of angles and things to consider when working here at the moment – don’t think we are ignoring you or brushing aside suggestions. We take everything mentioned, look at it from different angles, and prioritise what we feel offers the best potential for amount of work required.

Cheers.

It makes me really glad to see this kind of thought being put into Noble. There definitely are tons of issues regarding crypto-fiat reporting practices and I commend you for taking the necessary steps to prevent getting thrown into the slammer. I'm not sure how tax law works in Australia, but there has got to be some types of legal precedents with crypto-fiat exchanges and reporting. If I were in your shoes, I'd definitely do what I can to CYA (cover your ass). It's the prudent thing to do. It's the smart thing to do. And it's what you should do.

That said, things getting heated (which it sounds like it really did) is always an inevitability when dealing with the stress of working within a framework and trying to balance both sides of the same coin. From what I see, you guys are doing great and I really do trust that you are all putting very serious thought into making Noble something particularly special.

It is a fact of life in such a "young" scene. When fiat is transferred through a system that hasn't been legally structured or even defined by it, things get tricky. You guys really are doing what you can to make Noble as legit as possible.
755  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: NY just announced a MANDATORY Bitcoin license - if this concerns you sign this. on: February 14, 2014, 01:20:09 AM
The reactions in these posts and just the idea of this law really shows something interesting that's getting more and more pronounced: we really are at a crossroads.

I personally am okay with working within the frame of the structure because to me that's the best way to enact acceptance and un-muddle the waters surrounding Bitcoins. I wouldn't be surprised if this actually supports the Bitcoin economy because there is a working legal structure tied to Bitcoin in some way.

Or maybe it's all craziness...

also, i'm not sure how ....

but we really need a way to establish valuation without being tied to BTC

any ideas?
Unfortunately, I can only think of two ways to establish valuation: tied to fiat (but you need an exchange that goes from NOBLE -> Fiat, and therein lies the problem. Only a few places are financially approved to trade crypto to fiat and back and they either deal in BTC or XRP...), or tied to another crypto (in this case we use BTC since it has the most infrastructure and the largest market).

+1 to "Update the start page"
As a user I insist. Only this one (landing, or Home page).
The one where people land when they click "NobleCoin" in our sigs or from other places.

It has to be simpler. I'd say, even minimalistic.
Many people don't read these days and they tend to retreat when they see too much info available.

So make it only 4 simple objects (not five):

For example bright BIG COLORFUL ICONS on dark (black) background (with arrows or road signs or anything — anyone good at Photoshop or GIMP?)
 *  "Where to MINE"?  (arrow down)
 *  "Where to SHOP online using Noble, BTC, LTC?" (arrow up)
 *  "Where to learn the BASICS of crypto and how to START?" (right arrow)
 *  "Where to READ more about Noble development" (left arrow)

No more than 4 choices, believe me, 5 it's too many (for a landing page). Wink
And nothing more. Ok. That's my +1 on that idea.

This is actually very solid thinking. This kind of change will actually provide infrastructure to entice those who aren't all into the cryptocurrency scene.

It may be best to stop trying to get so much of a share of those in the crypto-community and instead branch out to a different demographic. And the only way to do that is to develop tools to communicate more effectively with those who don't know a lot about cryptocurrencies.

Personally, if we are going to branch out to that type of demographic, we don't want to muddy the waters by talking about mining (they'll probably not be interested in that). And really, we can lump that in with the Basics about cryptocurrencies.

We should have one about Noble, the devs, and the community. And the "Where to MINE" should instead emphasize on the good works that Noble are working on (charities, community involvement, and positive projects). This can also be linked to news surrounding Noble.

Those are just my thoughts though...

Wow, a Bitbar thread!

The last thread on BTB I last read was about a person who was mad that people were selling off BTB for .3 after he bought some for 1.5 or something like that. Something about how this was gold and should be treated as such. Ah, good old days...
760  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Don't Overlook Worldcoin (Update thread) on: February 13, 2014, 07:24:09 PM
I will say, if this coin is to going to ever get any traction again, the WDC committee needs to determine a long-term plan for growth. And it needs to be well-thought out and actionable. Ideas and thoughts aren't gonna be enough to cut it. It needs to be a structured road to the future. Otherwise, I really think WDC is going to slip much more than it already has.

There are enough jaded people from two huge impacts, and frankly, I think disillusion is going to cause WDC to possibly slip into obscurity unless something changes that.

But these are just my thoughts.
