301  Economy / Auctions / Re: $24.04 Abercombie Gift Card on: March 15, 2015, 01:49:36 AM
Just a quick question, do you have proof of how you obtained the gift card? I don't want to buy any illegal gift cards.

No, I've had it for months. It wasn't purchased illegally.
302  Economy / Auctions / Re: $24.04 Abercombie Gift Card on: March 15, 2015, 12:04:57 AM

304  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: Looking to sell 21 Bitcoin, Happy with any method on: March 14, 2015, 05:12:13 AM
Where are you located?

If you are willing to give a bit of a discount to unload them all (so you don't have to deal with managing multiple exchanged with multiple people over many days), I'd probably be willing to buy them from you.

I prefer to send cash or US Postal Service Money Orders, but we can work out the payment method if you're interested.  If you are anywhere within 100 miles of Chicago, we can probably meet up for a face-to-face exchange of cash for bitcoins.

I wouldn't recommend sending that much cash through USPS. They're notorious for going through packages and stealing them. It depends what postal offices the mail is going through, but I've had many bad experiences. Two packages that were opened with stuff missing in them and a Christmas letter. There was also this person who worked with the postal office in my area for years until they finally found out he was going through people's mail and taking the special promotional offers and rebates from people. All they did was fire him.
305  Other / Meta / Re: Ability to see number of deleted posts on: March 14, 2015, 04:47:34 AM
Are you implying that this feature is only added into the market sections, or for all moderated threads in general? Also, would it be a good idea to somehow give the public access to these deleted posts?
306  Economy / Gambling / Re: bitZino - Bitcoin Casino - Blackjack, Roulette, 3 Card Poker, Slots and more! on: March 14, 2015, 04:44:33 AM
Is there any updates on the traffic of this site and if it's still fully functioning under the same owner? I've always played here, but I'd like to receive an update on the status of the site as this thread is pretty inactive.
307  Other / Meta / Re: Account Banned. WTF.. WHY OH WHY? do i deserve it? have i misbehaved? on: March 13, 2015, 02:47:08 AM
You can refer here for any questions you have about your ban - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=985275.0

If you were a member of a signature campaign and you posted often you're most likely banned due to spamming. It looks like a lot of your posts are short and not constructive or adding to the conversation.
308  Economy / Exchanges / Re: BTER.com hacked - 7170 BTC stolen [DON'T KEEP YOUR MONEY ON AN EXCHANGE] on: March 13, 2015, 02:44:42 AM
With all the history of Bitcoin exchanges failing I'm surprised people are still keeping large amounts of Bitcoin on them.

It doesn't seem anybody is learning from the mistakes made in the past and history keeps repeating itself.
309  Economy / Digital goods / Re: ***Selling amazon.com account with $80 giftcard balance*** on: March 13, 2015, 02:37:28 AM
Is the account United States or a different country? Can you prove it's your account?

If you answered yes to both give me a message and I'll buy it.
310  Other / Meta / Re: Is there an archive of historic threads? on: March 13, 2015, 02:35:17 AM
If you start a thread gathering all the historic threads you might get that post stickied somewhere or a new sticky post created with all the information found.

312  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Mining Bitcoins in College on: March 13, 2015, 01:48:47 AM
two summers ago where I could of mined with as many computers as I wanted with free electricity

I wouldn't take it that far. Keep in mind that if you're burning massive amounts of electricity, questions are going to arise (and potentially issues as well). For example, if you're running 15x ASICs that burn 2 kW/h, you're talking about $1800+ a month in electricity. Whoever pays that bill is not going to be happy about it.

Yeah, I mean not infinite amounts, but I could of easily ran that many computers if I wanted to and they wouldn't of been able to do anything about it. It was in a very remote location with a lot of money. I guess the standard free electricity bills would be brought to question if it were to raise to an uncommon level. They might look into you similarly as someone who is growing marijuana, but I don't think they could take any action. The worst thing they could tell you is to stop doing it unless it's somewhere in their policy that you can't use X amount of electricity every month.
313  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Mining Bitcoins in College on: March 13, 2015, 01:35:00 AM
Since you don't have to pay electricity you're taking one of the money burners out of the equation. I made the mistake of not investing in mining gear two summers ago where I could of mined with as many computers as I wanted with free electricity. If I were you I'd invest in mining gear now, just make sure you get the right equipment.
314  Economy / Gambling / Re: What gambing games do gamblers want? on: March 12, 2015, 10:36:05 PM
From the gamblers that i have know in my real life it seems all they really want is to lose lol so give them anything with a high chance of losing and being absolutely devastated, almost suicidal and you will be sure to have a winner. It is sad really because they do not no went to stop and it can destroy so fast.. I play Dice and Poker when i have had a good time trading but i will never spend more than i would cry over if i lost, it is all about discipline for me...

I don't think gamblers are addicted to losing, it's more of the thrill and adrenaline they get from gambling. Nobody with a gambling addiction wants to feel suicidal or depressed but that's the side effects of being addicted to gambling.
315  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: New scam for steam gift cards on: March 12, 2015, 10:33:00 PM
I'm waiting for the followup reply stating that it was just a misunderstanding and you got your code(s) and that the site is totally legit...

Sneaky marketing technique Tongue

This would be quite a desperate marketing technique if it were one.

All it does is display they have poor customer service and that their customers aren't happy. I personally wouldn't purchase anything from them unless it was a last resort. They should of made a thread claiming they wanted to purchase a steam code and then have the other account come in and offer help and direct them to the site, lol.
I think it would actually be a smart marketing technique. There are a lot of people on here that are naive enough to believe the story that TC was expecting the OP to make. Most companies have unhappy customers, that is just a part of doing business. I would say that pretty much every company is going to have at least one unhappy customer and if they don't then they are likely either not doing any business or are being scammed by a lot of people.

I have seen an increase of shill accounts vouching and recommending (or sometimes as little as suggesting) certain scam websites. I posted this just today in the how to spot a scammer thread in lending.

If they were to respond in the correct way I'm sure it might have a positive effect. Depending on the popularity and the discussion of my site I wouldn't want the only reviews coming up when my company is searched to be scam accusations though. I would rather have a lot of reviews of positive experiences around the forum rather than people being displeased with my services. Anything can be a good marketing technique though if it's put into the right context. As the saying goes "Any publicity is good publicity" (If you are smart about it)

I've been noticing shill accounts being created for quite some time but I haven't been able to find evidence of it. It has mostly been in the market section where people create new accounts to promote their business by giving themselves fake vouches and positive feedback and continuing to bump their thread up with vouches. I've never really put much thought into the new accounts being created to promote scam sites as it's hard to believe people would keep falling for that, but given the recent Ponzi Schemes and how people are continuing to fall for the "double your Bitcoin" type of methods I'm beginning to change my mind. Back when I sold and traded MMORPG currencies it was common knowledge never to trade your money to someone that's claiming they can double it. In some ways the younger generations are a lot smarter and wiser in dealing with online scam attempts than the older generations. It would be interesting to see the general age consensus of Bitcointalk.
Well my theory is that the companies are hoping that people are going to only search the scam accusations section to see if a site is legit or not, they will see a accusation against them that was quickly resolved, and then potential customers will assume that the site is in fact legit.

What TC is implying is that the site in question is 100% a scam and will simply take money from anyone that gives it to them.

The shill accounts that I have primarily seen are ones saying that they just used some exchange (or they will instead use an exchange instead of dealing on the forum) that already has a scam accusation against them and is pretty clear that they are scams. This is not a customer service issue, this is making various sites appear to be legit when they are in fact scams issue

Okay, now I see how you're looking at it. Hopefully this is common sense for most people, but as you said there are people who are naive enough to fall for these types of things. When dealing with people this naive I haven't seen anyone come up with a solid solution to keep them from being scammed. If they aren't going to read the forum guidelines and warning and take the proper steps to protect themselves, it's really only their mistakes that can teach them to learn. I found that the older people are, the more prone they are to fall for these types of scams. The younger generation seem to be more aware of scams like these. I would guess that part of the reason is because older people aren't use to this type of behavior being so common and are more naive to the fact that they can trust an online stranger with money.

What about something like automatic btc price updating. Theres a tag like [btcprice]20USD[/btcprice] and you can have the btc amount updated automatically so that the value in fiat stays the same. Also automatic btc link formatting, address formatting, sign message verifier, lots of cool btc features could be used here.

People use different exchanges to price Bitcoin so although it would give a ballpark estimate, it wouldn't be the same for everyone. How much this would effect the usage of it I wouldn't be able to say.
The forum could use one major exchange to display the price, or an index of various major exchanges. I would say that I do like this idea.
Having phone notifications and 2 factor authentication would be nice. With phone notifications you could link a smartphone to your account and receive notifications on the posts or topics you choose. For instance you could create a thread and you would have an option that you could tick that would notify you by phone of a post. You could do the same with personal messages or anything you wanted to be notified on. I'm unsure how efficient this would be if there isn't a mobile version of the site.
The 2FA really should be via with either a PGP signed message, a bitcoin signed message or with google authenticator. There are simply too many places in the world that the forum would need to send text's to for it to make sense to have 2FA with text messages.

We already have the ability to get notifications on your smartphone. All you need to do is have your email address on your forum profile set to an email that your smartphone has access to. Then anytime you get a notification it will be on your smart phone. You could even use a dedicated email for this function.

I was thinking that having an index of exchanges could work. If you were able to go into your account settings and change the exchange or have it somewhere accessible on the forum it'd be very convenient to have. There's several times I've wanted to use this as I'm always going back and recalculating the costs when I'm buying/selling something.

I think it would be awesome to have games like roulette where you can see the other bets people are placing at the same time as you (Roulette wheel would spin every 15-30 seconds). Then you could have an option to switch to private if you don't want wait for the wheel to spin. Also you could have a blackjack table where multiple people can sit down at the same time (You could just implement 5 decks instead of 1).
319  Other / Meta / Re: How can I become a staff here? on: March 12, 2015, 09:28:15 PM
You can have all the reports in the world, and also be the most active person, but that's just a indicator in my opinion. theymos seems to have a eye for good staff members and they all seen t be doing a great job. So we can't tell you a definite answer, it depends on a lot of things which are obtainable, like reporting posts etc. But, it depends on theymos perception of you too.

Yes that's definitely correct. Theymos seems to pick moderators that have common sense, are always fair, and don't abuse their power. I can't say the same for all the other forums I've been on.
320  Economy / Speculation / Re: I have USD 2000 to invest. Should I buy Bitcoins or gold? on: March 12, 2015, 09:19:13 PM
I think of gold as low risk with moderate upside potential while BTC is high risk and extreme upside potential. They actually balance pretty well. I would go 1oz. gold and the rest in BTC.

According to the price charts for gold, if the OP were to of picked gold to hold for one year he would of lost almost $200.00. This could make for an increase in price this year though. There is several other ways to invest this amount of money where you can get a lot more out of (I linked an article in my previous post). I think it appeals to people to invest in gold because it's always been a luxury, which it's alright if you have the right amount of money to throw around or the time to sit on. For a one year investment though you wouldn't get much action out of Gold.
