I Eu Citzen!
I see that. Thank you. Remember to like the Sirius Money Facebook group and not just the picture, though. Smiley
142  Economy / Services / Re: Win 3 x 100 mBTC from Sirius Money on: October 24, 2013, 10:02:41 PM
I liked and shared, hope I win! Smiley  Am I egliable if I live in Canada?  Will you ship these wallets out?  Why not just send directly to a BTC address? :p

Only European citizens or residents at the moment, though.
What malevolent said unfortunately but thank you for the support!

The reason that I only take European customers is because I don't want to become subject to US KYC and AMC laws and enforcemtn which seem extremely arbitrary to me. Maybe I should just say non-US citizens in the future...

No hate, US. I love you guys and a have visited you many times but your judicial system and enforcement seems a bit to harsh to me. I cannot risk getting involved with that.
143  Economy / Services / Win 3 x 100 mBTC from Sirius Money on: October 24, 2013, 09:23:48 PM
Win 100 mBTC

The European bitcoin broker Sirius Money is giving out three beautiful paper wallets with 100 mBTC on each wallet.

All you have to do is to go to Facebook and like Sirius Money's Facebook page and share the picture of the paper wallets. Your share has to be public for me to see it (if I am not your Facebook friend).

You can of course also buy the paper wallets here. Only European citizens or residents at the moment, though.

What about the first bitcoin transaction from the South Pole? Could that be possible do you think? I guess they have internet on the Amundsen-Scott Base (OT: Amundsen was 1st to reach the South Pole so he should get the most credit).
145  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Bitcoins to the South Pole! on: October 24, 2013, 03:13:18 PM
isnt there a cheaper and faster solution? why 2000 bucks for a flag? you can do it cheaper and have the same advertising-effect. and then: you can pay it with your own pocket.
True. But he is not a convinced bitcoiner like us - it seems to me that he might be one soon, though. He has only heard of the technology and that is what he charges for advertisement.
146  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Bitcoins to the South Pole! on: October 24, 2013, 02:56:34 PM
I don't know who the OP is, but it's hard to trust a guy that doesn't have any grammatical errors in his posts.

Seriously, assuming the bitcoins could be raised (not outside the realm of possibilities), how likely is that an emblem can be produced and placed on his sled given that his departure date is fast approaching?
Thank you for your compliments regarding my grammar. I am actually Danish. This is me:

And thi is my website: Sirius Money.

I agree that this is late but the guy is in Norway now and I could get things sent to him with one or two days notice. I have some bitcoin bumber stickers which may be usable but I am very open to suggestions.

Polar Expedition - Bitcoin Fundraising
Support Faysal Hanneche's mission to the South Pole

Update (2015)
Success!

Update (2013): Due to a knee injury, Faysal had to cancel his expedition. He did manage to take some pictures of the Bitcoin flag on Antarctica and a bitcoin transaction was made from Antarctica! The first one ever perhaps? He will attempt again!

Bitcoin transaction made from the Antarctica:
https://blockchain.info/tx/f87eaa6f7870ae3b7f677cb0929c69d1b7b2bcdf0a5e33a033aef8b05f6f68ac

Faysal Hanneche is a French adventurer and a personal friend who completed a solo expedition to the North Pole this April and is going on a solo expedition to the South Pole this November. On his South Pole expedition, he will seek to promote Bitcoin in these three following ways:

  • 1. Carry Bitcoin sticker on sled.
  • 2. Purchase Pizza when on the South Pole.
  • 3. Plant Bitcoin flag on South Pole.

1) The sticker has been designed and printed and is now in Faysal's possession. My company Sirius Money has donated 6.8 BTC (EUR 1000) to Faysal's mission.

Design is by Mel Warn (whitetoo on this forum).

2) Faysal has 300 mBTC on a Bitcoin wallet on an Android device which has an internet connection via satelite. His goal is to transfer 300 mBTC to me and then I will make the arrangement such that a pizza and a large coke is delivered to him at his hotel in Chile when he has returned to civilization.

3) I need help on this one if it is to succeed. Faysal is in Cape Town, South Africa at the moment and someone down there needs to get him a flag. If 15 BTC is collected, he has agreed to plant a flag on the South Pole. Faysal leaves from Cape Town on November 4th so someone needs to be very quick! He is staying on the Radisson Waterfront in Cape Town and the flag can be delivered there. But it has to be there by the afternoon on Monday November 4th. It can be delivered in the reception. Flag is now in Faysal's hands and 15 BTC have been collected. Great job and thanks for all the support! Donations are still accepted since this is a very expensive expedition for Faysal.

Update: Faysal is now on Antarctica and he has begun skiing towards his goal: The South Pole. He is currently expected to arrive there at the end of December.
See the latest posts on his website: http://transantarctic.wordpress.com/

On donations there is no refund if any or all the stated goals fail. This mission costs EUR 60'000 and much of that has been raised through other sponsors and these conditions apply to all the sponsors.

15 BTC collected and moved to cold storage (pun intended) whilst Faysal is in Antarctica. Donations still graciously accepted. Upon Faysal's request some of these money will be used to pay back people Faysal has borrowed money from to finance the expedition. Thorkil Værge AKA Sword Smith administrates this. For any enquiries on this, please PM me.

Latest Time Schedule
  • Departure from South Africa to Antarctica: November 8-10.
  • Arrival at the South Pole, bitcoin transaction and picture of flag: end of December - if all goes well pictures will be uploaded here.
  • Return to civilization (Chile): End of January/start of February.
Remember that these are only estimates.

Background Information:
Coindesk article:
http://www.coindesk.com/adventurer-make-first-ever-bitcoin-transaction-south-pole/

The mission to the north Pole was about 400 km of walking with nothing but his skies to move him forward. The mission to the South Pole will be 3500 km and he will use kites and sails while on skies to carry him forward when the wind allows it. This is not possible on the North Pole since there are cracks and icy hills in the way all the time.

If Faysal manages to go solo to the South Pole, he will become the first to visit both poles in one year on a solo mission.

This is how you cross Antarctica:

22m people already want 1 BTC each. Just like 10,000 people on this forum want 2,200 bitcoins each. The only question is how much they want it.
150  Economy / Speculation / Re: What will the price of BTC be when 22M people want 1 BTC each? on: October 24, 2013, 12:53:39 AM
What will the price of BTC be when 22 million people want 1 BTC each?

How far are we from this date?

Hmm...
Yes. What is the solution? To count in mBTCs, Bitcoin cents, µBTCs, satoshis?
151  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Selling 1M Shitcoins (SHT) for 0.002BTC on: October 24, 2013, 12:45:47 AM
Is SHT real?
I don't now. I can't find this SHT on any exchanges.

if when it drops, I think we'll see support at 1400. and not b4

Fixed that for you.

Last but not least, you can pick any multimillionaire, venture capitalist, Chinese, Winklevoss twin you want an attribute the price to him/her or it. If you think for one minute that a venture capitalist is going to sit back and watch their investment shrivel you are dead wrong. The companies, technology, implementation and legal battles being fought over bitcoin are much bigger than you, I, or anyone person on this forum and I can assure you that if, and when a significant price drop occurs they will prop up the market again and restore faith for the rest of the bitcoin community.
Bitcoin was made to be immune to legislation.
154  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer - MtGoxUSD wall movement tracker - Hardcore on: October 22, 2013, 10:06:23 PM
It is my impression that Google Trends is a lagging indicator for the price, not a leading one
155  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer - MtGoxUSD wall movement tracker - Hardcore on: October 22, 2013, 10:05:34 PM

Extremely bullish! According to this metric, the public in the west has no part in this rally, and can therefore only become a part of it (fueling the rally) or skipping it (rally continues however China sees fit).

The public does not have bitcoins to sell, they are in very tight hands already.
Would you care to make a guess on what the price will be before 2014? I know predicting the timing is nearly impossible but in the long term you and I agree on the price movements.
156  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer - MtGoxUSD wall movement tracker - Hardcore on: October 22, 2013, 07:20:18 AM
CNY has gone up almost 2% in just the last 60 minutes or so.
China is at 217 USD /BTC
157  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer - China wall movement tracker on: October 22, 2013, 07:17:50 AM
1308 is 157€!  On bitcoin.de you can buy for 138€ still, someone should be able to make a killing arbing here!
And as a bonus they also sell EUR or USD and buy RNB which means that they gain a stronger fiat for a weaker one Smiley
158  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer - MtGoxUSD wall movement tracker - Hardcore on: October 22, 2013, 07:15:02 AM
BTCCHINA is at 215 USD/BTC now! Gox at 198, Bitstamp at 188.

It's like falling into a black hole, the head just accelerates faster and faster compared to the rest of the body.....
The funny thing is that if you make arbitrage trades through China and some EUR or USD denominated currency, you get the extra bonnus of selling a weaker fiat currency for a stronger one since RNB is strong and the dollar and euro is weak.
159  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer - MtGoxUSD wall movement tracker - Hardcore on: October 22, 2013, 07:10:57 AM
BTCCHINA is at 215 USD/BTC now! Gox at 198, Bitstamp at 188.
160  Other / Politics & Society / Re: US health care mandate (Obamacare) on: October 21, 2013, 11:05:10 PM
I am surprised to not see any discussion here about US health care mandate (Obamacare). I am guessing it is because there is a pretty large international user base here. I usually lurk but I guess I have to make my own thread this time.

Why is it the best thing since sliced bread?
Why will it cause the world to end?

So lets discuss in hopefully less extreme manner than the two above questions.

I am against the individual mandate but you can't pay for it without the individual mandate. Since you can't have the good without the bad in this case, I would rather not have it at all.
The reason that it is not being discussed is probably that if you have come to the conclusion that government should stay out of money creation and banking then you also think that government should stay out of most other things.
