421  Economy / Speculation / Re: BTC Price is $50 now! on: March 18, 2013, 11:48:20 PM
I check the price on http://bitcoin.clarkmoody.com/ . Are there any better places to check the price?

I almost feel like thanking Merkel and Cyprus but that would be cruel.
423  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Buying 100-200 Bitcoins from Europe on: March 18, 2013, 06:47:01 AM
I am considering a buy of 100-200 BTCs from Denmark. How do I minimize my transaction fees in this purchase? I have previously used Mt. Gox. but I was wondering if other ways were cheaper.

In denmark you can do a domestic DKK transfer through Bitcoin Nordic:
They charge a 9 % fee which is too much I think.

BIPS.me sells bitcoins and accepts DKK:

There might be other methods that work for you.  For instance, if you can send SEPA (EUR), then BITSTAMP is one of a half dozen exchanges that you can send SEPA payments to:

You could even try CurrencyFair where you transfer DKK by bank to them, then convert there to different funds and wire from there.  That's another method to go from DKK to EUR to send to BITSTAMP:
Ok. I will check these other ones out. Thanks! What about a bank wire to Mt. Gox. and then buying the Bitcoins through them? Would that be a stupid way to buy the BTCs?

As I have understood, VPNs (Virtual Private Networks, used to hide online identity) are popular among many BTC users. Do you use a VPN and if so why/why not?

Also, I would like to hear which VPNs accept Bitcoins.

TorrentFreak just updated their (highly recommended) post on exactly that, here:

Check it out.

Finally a reasonable answer containing some usefull information. Thank you!

Just to follow up on this, I entered a private address in the hexadecimal format and MtGox accepted that so I guess that they accept private keys in all four available formats plus Casascius' short key format. Can anybody confirm this?

VPN simply changes your default Ip address to something else, it has nothing to do with protecting your social network.
Who said anything thing about social network? I am aware that you cannot hide your identity if you log into FB or gmail or whatever. But you can surf much of the internet whilst staying anonymous if you use a VPN.

Hopefully someone else can provide some insight into the pros and cons on this.

429  Other / Beginners & Help / Regarding Mtgox' "Redeem Private Key" on: March 12, 2013, 09:32:17 AM
Hi

I have been playing around with Bitcoins lately and I was trying to use the option of redeeming a private key on Mtgox to add funds to my mtgox account. But I don't know in which format to enter the private key. bitaddress.org gives me the following different formats for a private key:

- Private Key WIF (51 characters base58, starts with a '5'):
- Private Key WIF (compressed, 52 characters base58, starts with a 'K' or 'L')
- Private Key Hexadecimal Format (64 characters [0-9A-F]):
- Private Key Base64 (44 characters):
