241  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum stuck at "Please wait" window after closing lightning network channel on: October 04, 2020, 04:46:20 AM
you should file a bug report on github https://github.com/spesmilo/electrum/issues
242  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Bitcoin Core HD Wallet on: October 04, 2020, 01:16:57 AM
What's the "inactivehdseed" in dumpwallet?
My wallet is encrypted since day 1.

it's the old hd seed from before you encrypted the wallet for the first time. see what adolfin said in post 4 above.

the wallet is automatically created when you first run bitcoin core and is unencrypted until you set a password.
243  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: can't get into my Electrum Wallet on: September 28, 2020, 04:33:13 AM
it's specific to your wallet file so just restoring from seed will do the job. to be able to get to the installation wizard you just have to rename the data dir:

https://github.com/spesmilo/electrum-docs/blob/master/faq.rst#where-is-the-electrum-datadir-located
244  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Need help to dump my private key on Bitcoin Core on: September 19, 2020, 02:32:31 PM
if you want to backup your wallet use the command under the file menu. don't go messing with individual private keys.
245  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: V4 Problem w/Max send on: September 16, 2020, 04:49:15 AM
they had to somehow integrate lightning into it. it's made the UI more complicated.

i don't find it slow though.
246  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: sent testnet coin from p2sh-segwit address to native-segwit address error on: September 09, 2020, 05:27:36 PM
the log files are in the data directory:

https://electrum.readthedocs.io/en/latest/faq.html#datadir

are you using electrum 4.0.2 ? this bug may have been fixed in recent versions.
247  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: I need Sherlock Holmes to help me find the PIP installed Electrum, LOL! on: September 07, 2020, 01:42:04 PM
add this to your ~/.bashrc file:

Code:
export PATH="$PATH:$HOME/.local/bin"

alternatively just create a shortcut to ~/.local/bin/run_electrum on your desktop or menu or whatever.

248  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Receive Electrum 4.0.2 on: September 06, 2020, 01:03:01 PM
change addresses are for internal wallet use. you should not hand them out to people.

the reason the addresses tab is hidden by default is because people get confused by all the different addresses. all you have to do to receive bitcoin is click on the request button on the receive tab. that'll give you an address.
249  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Fake Electrum version 4.0 and hardware wallets on: September 05, 2020, 12:47:49 PM
I just received the fake error message in Electrum 3.3.4. Here is the malicious website:

Does it make sense to give this to the ElectrumX team, so they can blacklist this address?

You should update to 4.0.2 via electrum.org.

however 3.3.4 should not be vulnerable to these phishing messages according to the release notes:

https://github.com/spesmilo/electrum/blob/master/RELEASE-NOTES#L184

may be you are using an even older version?

250  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Forgot order of my 12 seed phrase for my electrum wallet on: September 04, 2020, 09:14:55 PM
electrum maintains backwards compatibility with all previous seed mnemonics generated by it. so always use the latest version. the advice to create a watch only on an online system is the right idea.

https://bitcoinelectrum.com/creating-a-watch-only-wallet/

deterministic watch only is what you want.

note electrum seeds are not bip39.
251  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: sending to an address generated with your xpub key on: September 03, 2020, 07:07:00 PM
Hi,

I currently use Electrum wallet but I do not always have the wallet on me, it's currently only used on a laptop which is rarely online. So I was thinking of generating an address from my xpub key and creating a generator on my dev site which I can access with phone, or at work.

If I send to an address that has been generated using my xpub will it appear in my Electrum wallet even if Electrum has not generated that address keypair yet? or is there a way I can tell electrum to generate this keypair forcefully using the HD path for example?

Thanks for help.

addresses should be created at m/0/i where m is the xpub, and i is the index. by default electrum maintains a gap limit or readahead window of 20 unused addresses. as you send money to old addresses new addresses are automatically created to maintain this readahead window.

if you create gaps of unused addresses larger than that gap limit then you will have to raise the gap limit on the laptop so that it sees the addresses you've used.

the easiest way to ensure that you generate the right addresses  is to use electrum itself on your dev site. create a watch only wallet using the xpub and then use the add_request command to get addresses via jsonrpc.

252  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: 128 bits entropy passphrase is enougth safe for online storage? on: August 31, 2020, 01:58:31 PM
Let's imagine that for some reason I don't have a safe place to store my seeds + passphrases and I decide to encrypt it with gpg (aes-256) using a 128-bit entropy password (12 words diceware list) and upload it to google drive

I would write that password on a piece of paper that I could carry and memorize it

I know it is not recommended, but would it be safe enough against any type of attack even from qualified attackers such as governments, NSAs, cluster servers, bitcoin miners?

sorry for my english, tranks

not really because all they have to do is pick your pocket

btw bitcoin mining hardware can't be used to hack wallets.

253  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Help with Electrum on: August 29, 2020, 04:42:27 PM
The old version of Electrum would only ask for an upgrade if it's connected to infected servers.

how come no one else is emphasizing this part? make sure you only download electrum from electrum.org. don't visit the link in any in-app popups.
254  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Fake Electrum version 4.0 and hardware wallets on: August 26, 2020, 05:13:57 AM
the change address is not verified by some hardware wallets so you could still lose money. ledger doesn't verify it for example.

I am almost certain that this was the case before, the user had to confirm both addresses before confirming the transaction. But Ledger has completely removed this feature in Ledger Live (it is not possible to see the change address at all) most likely because of those (including me) who played with those addresses in the Chrome Bitcoin App - and those addresses used to be far below the gap limit and Ledger didn't detect them at all (meaning not even the coins that were on them).

Only way to check change address in Electrum as UI for Ledger would be to click on Preview button where change address is displayed - and then go to console/type
Code:
ismine("YOUR_ADDRESS_HERE")

yeah but the thread is about malware versions of electrum. you can't trust what they report.

256  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Paid with mBTC and not BTC - have I lost all my money? on: August 24, 2020, 08:49:03 AM
This is still one of my pet peeves regarding Electrum... that it defaults to mBTC as the unit to display the balance Undecided

someone should create an issue on github and complain about it. idk why they keep sticking to this default.
257  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Old Electrum Version on: August 23, 2020, 04:13:33 AM
The issue is that the button remains red(botom right on console) and there is no chance of connecting with what ever network is required to make a transfer. I presumed this was because my platform is too old now, or, is it because the operating system on my computer is too old??                 I just want to do one more transfer and then be done with Electrum wallet!

old versions won't connect. on 4.0.2 you can click on the red button and then uncheck select server automatically, right click on a server in the list and choose use server. try a few servers until the button becomes green. after that you should see your correct balance and you can use the send tab to send money.

if you still can't connect then make sure there's no proxy configured when you click on the red button (or via tools > network). also make sure you are not using a VPN.

edit: it would also be useful if you told us what OS you have. if it's win 7 then try the microsoft update mentioned at the bottom of the download page:

https://electrum.org/#download

if none of the above works then enable debug logging and pastebin the results:

https://github.com/spesmilo/electrum-docs/blob/master/faq.rst#how-to-enable-debug-logging

258  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Can't see all of my transactions on: August 21, 2020, 11:45:04 PM
so there are lots of contradictory things in this thread. you say the balance is correct but also say certain transactions are missing.

it would be best if you simply created a new deterministic electrum wallet and sent all your coins to an address in that using armory. exporting and importing private keys can be error prone as you've discovered.
259  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Bump fee window on: August 20, 2020, 01:45:30 PM
So the question is how to delete a transaction in Electrum, so that a new RBF type is sent to a mempul but with a higher Commission so that it is carried out faster than the first, but not as now to the same wallet, but to another one, let's say

if the original transaction is marked as replaceable (this is the default behaviour in electrum) then simply right clicking it and choosing increase fee, choosing a higher fee and then clicking ok and then sign and broadcast in the next window should do the trick.

260  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: How can I transfer funds from Electrum wallet on laptop to a Electrum wallet App on: August 20, 2020, 01:33:11 PM
there's a share icon on the request screen on electrum android. it looks like 3 points with paths between them. you can simply use that to email yourself the address. then just pay to that using your PC.
