161  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / [ANN] CoinEscrow.tk - Free 9-5 EST weekdays alt-coin escrow on: May 14, 2013, 07:50:01 AM
So, with all the new coins coming out and the hype each one gets with people looking to buy and sell coins minutes after the release, there is a lot of room for people to get scammed. I have been watching the forums and I see tons and tons of people getting scammed. So I made this site: http://coinescrow.tk

I was even stupid enough myself to send first and got scammed. Luckily, I only lost 8 LTC. That stings, but it wasn’t the end of the world. After that happened I set up this site to help out in anyway I can. I am sick of seeing people getting scammed. It’s a very easy problem to avoid, just use an escrow.

That’s what this site is here to do. The purpose of this site is to provide an easy place to find people willing to serve as escrows for just about any cryptocurrency you could imagine. This site aims to be a network of trustworthy people willing to make the world of cryptocurrency a little better.
I will be contacting trusted members of the bitcointalk.org community to see if they would be willing to help serve as an escrow when I am not available.

The purpose of this site is not be an automated exchange site. The site relies on human participants to act as escrows. I did this for a few reasons.
1.)It allows for people to act as escrows immediately following the release of a coin, instead of waiting for it to be coded into a website.
2.)It is easier for me because I don’t have to code automatic transactions for every new coin that comes out
3.)It “decentralizes” in a sense the escrow service. If this were an automatic service, it would rely on my servers being up and protected at all times.
4.)Last, but not least, it does something small, but hopefully meaningful in reassuring that there are some honest people out there that want to see cryptocurrencies succeed and aren’t just in it to make a quick buck.

I will be acting as a free escrow and will be available most weekdays from 9am to 5pm Eastern Standard Time.

If you have any questions about how this works, please read our tutorial/tips.

Do you want to help make this place better and keep people from getting scammed? Consider becoming an escrow. If you would like to become an escrow, please reply to this thread, or send me a pm.

Features of being an escrow on CoinEscrow.tk:
-Set your own fees/fee structure
-Set which coins you want to provide escrow for
-Advertise/shamelessly plug whatever you want on your personal escrow page.

Like I said, I am not looking to make money at all on this project, I am just looking to help out this community and keep people from getting scammed. If you don't use my service, please find someone else to do escrow for you, or only trade with trusted members of the forum.

*Also Quick Note* You DO NOT need to become a member of the site at all to use this service. I know how annoying it is to sign up for new sites. Only escrows need to have accounts, which will be set up on a case by case basis to ensure not just anyone can be an escrow.

Anyways, I hope this helps some people not get scammed. It's almost 4 am here, so I'll be going to bed, but I will see you all in a few hours. Thanks.

Mining on this pool now, way less invalids.
164  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: We need the BQC on Vircurex on: May 11, 2013, 03:07:01 PM
A few senior members have confirmed to me that BBQcoin is going to hit another exchange within a few days. Probably vircurex, possibly crypto-trade.com as well Smiley

Confirm, got a message back from a "major" exchange yesterday "within 72 hours". So that would be 72 - 24 = 48 hours Smiley

48 hours is up.

I'm thinking it was maybe supposed to go to vircurex but then they got hacked so who knows if they're still planning on it or how long it will take now.
165  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN][BOT] Automatic escrow service [beta coming soon] on: May 11, 2013, 05:41:09 AM
Watching this closely. I'm interested to see how well this works out.
166  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [WTS] >2% of Mined BBQ Coins on: May 09, 2013, 06:30:14 PM
If you would like to be a large holder of BBQcoin, I am asking 1btc/1000bbq. (.001btc or equivalent in LTC )

I will sell in 1% lots. No less.

Please PM if interested.

Thanks!

The going rate on bter is less than 25% of this?

It's going to be a full time job adding new coins to that poll as they come out.

170  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: If I built a website for Alt-Coin Escrow would you use it? on: May 08, 2013, 09:19:58 PM
People voting no, I would be interested in hearing you opinion on why we don't need this.

Build an automatic exchange like vircurex or bter, no need for escrows after that.

Thanks for giving me a good answer. I don't really want to build a full out automated exchange. I don't expect this site will be for everyone, but if it helps 1 less person get scammed, I think I'll have done a good job.
171  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [Poll]If I built a website for Alt-Coin Escrow would you use it? on: May 08, 2013, 09:17:18 PM
Why not, I'm bored, I'll start working on something over this weekend, psybits has officially claimed the spot as first escrow provider, so look out for a pm to beta test it some time in the next week hopefully.

Also, if anyone has any cool names, let me know.

This will be around 2016-11-12T05:06:56Z, so I should have plenty of time to get the project started. Smiley

I give it 27 minutes from now before people start selling 1000s of these.

I don't know about you guys but I hate bter, vircurex is better, but if BBQcoins are really gonna take off, I would like see them on BTC-E.
176  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: If I built a website for Alt-Coin Escrow would you use it? on: May 08, 2013, 03:23:15 PM
I was already thinking about a site like that, but a completely different system  Wink

My idea: Something like an exchange

1) Both sides will create a profile
2) They will choose the person they want to trade with
3) They will choose the currency (each side another)
4) They will input their wallet address
5) They will send the amount of coins requested by the other side to a address proposed by the site
6) In meanwhile, the other side is doing the same thing
7) When both transaction person=>site are accepted by the site, a big green button will appear : "Are you sure do exchange XLTC for YBTC with PERSON_Z?"
Cool If both sides accept this, the money will be send automatically to provided addresses (transaction "site=>person")
9) There will always be a big red button "stop the trade" and both sites will be refunded

Unfortunately I don't have time to make it work right now, so feel free to use my idea  Wink

I think this is an excellent idea; the exchange could make a little money by charging 0.25% to each party.

To the OP: if you have the required skills this is the way to go, eliminating the need for human escrow

Well isn't this basically how all exchanges work? You send your coins to the exchange's address, then you list a price you want to sell at, someone wants to buy, they have sent their coins to the exchange's address and the exchange then sends the coins to the appropriate parties while maintaining a small fee.

Now, what the automated escrow idea could do though, would make it easier to do private deals without advertising the price you're selling at.

Still, as I commented earlier, human escrows can get set up way faster than coding in new coins each time they are released. But still, a pretty good idea I think.
177  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [Poll]If I built a website for Alt-Coin Escrow would you use it? on: May 08, 2013, 02:50:28 PM
No matter what happens with this thread or if the site gets built or not, please read this : https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=199130.0 before trading at all on here.
178  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [Poll]If I built a website for Alt-Coin Escrow would you use it? on: May 08, 2013, 02:13:47 PM
Also, I could keep a running list of know scammers, I know there is already something like that here, but never hurts to have it more than one place.

Any other features people would want?

P.S.
In case anyone was wondering how I would verify that a user on my site is indeed the same user as this site. I was thinking I could just have them sign up with the same username on my site and then I would send them a random phrase or number to post on a thread here verifying their identity. Anyone see any flaws in that? I'm totally open to suggestions. If I'm going to take the time to build this, I want to do it right and include as much as you guys want that I have the capabilities to include.

I like the idea, it's basically just an automated escrow. The only problem I see is that with the rate that new coins get made and then posted to exchanges, it would be kind of hard to keep when you would have to code and test for each new coin made. The way I envision it, I troll around on these forums a lot, but not constantly. The second a new coin goes live, someone acting as an escrow could edit their profile to add that coin as one they do escrow for, therefore in essence, "decentralizing" the escrow process away from me. I would just be providing the platform for people to use to communicate more efficiently and safely then trying to wade through all the posts on here.
