2101  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Nano Ledger S Seed and Nano Ledger S Recovery on: September 27, 2020, 10:33:29 PM
What I did notice was for example after you type in the first letter, the second letter... its not like they give you the entire alphabet, they give you much less letters to choose from.  Example if your first letter of your seed starts with the letter T, well you can't select say W as the second letter at all.  Did the previous update allowed you to even type in words that are not words?  Example imagine you typing in a seed and put one of your words as tvonoimm which is not a word even.  Seems like with this, they only give you the second letter choices where it actually makes up a real word in the bip list?
Correct... again, it is an effort to speed up the recovery phrase entry process (and to prevent entering incorrect words).

Note to everyone else... I've been assisting jerry0 in PM, and it turns out he was entering the word incorrectly, which is why it was not showing the correct word in the list of word to choose from Wink
2102  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Nano Ledger S Seed and Nano Ledger S Recovery on: September 27, 2020, 09:45:06 PM
I have just now reset my device to test this, because I haven't had to restore it in a while, and the word entry process is indeed different from what I remember...

However, I just start entering letters, and it generally seems to get to the 2nd or 3rd letter before giving me the word list to scroll through to find the word I want. I did not have any issues with words not showing up.

Some of them had 5 or 6 options that I had to scroll through to find the actual word I wanted to enter, but they were all there.

Also, for the love of bitcoin... STOP multiposting! just edit your previous post if you need to add something!

2103  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Nano Ledger S Seed and Nano Ledger S Recovery on: September 27, 2020, 09:09:43 PM
Also im typing my words now.  I notice after i type like the first two letters of each word, you see words appear and then you right button click it until you find it?  I thought you had to manually type each letter of each word?  Can anyone here confirm this is how it is?  I thought you had to manually type each letter of each word in the whole seed?
They did that to speed up the recovery process. Saves a LOT of clicking Tongue

Okay im freaked out right now.  As im typing in my seed for all the words, as i went halfway or so, one of the words i wrote down the first two letter, it does not show the exact word for that number.

Does this mean my seed is incorrect?  I am pretty sure i wrote it correctly and even wrote it twice.
Have you checked if that word is in the BIP39 wordlist? Refer: https://github.com/bitcoin/bips/blob/master/bip-0039/english.txt

If it isn't, you wrote the word down incorrectly. Undecided

Can you keep typing in letters? or can you only select words at this point?

Also, I've never been able to get my core to accept the -txindex having put it before, after and also instead of a TX.
I'm not sure what you mean by this? -txindex is a commandline argument used at start-up for bitcoind/Bitcoin Core GUI. You don't pass that to bitcoin-cli or use it in an RPC call.

Quote
-txindex  Maintain a full transaction index, used by the getrawtransaction rpc call (default: 0)

The "used by the getrawtransaction rpc call" part means that the rpc call is using the transaction index, NOT the argument Wink
2105  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Wallet lost after windows installation? Used portable version. on: September 27, 2020, 08:45:20 PM
One of the codes worked!
Glad to hear that you managed to recover using one of your seed mnemonics.

Quote
So what s the best way of keeping a wallet? portable version?
Depends on your use-case... if you require portability, or desire to keep the wallets out of your %AppData% or C: drive location etc, then portable might be the answer, otherwise I would recommend the "installer", it's simple and "clean" and is less likely to cause issues later down the track.

Quote
have the code written on your computer and laptop?
NO!!! Shocked Shocked Shocked  Nein, nyet, NEGATIVE! DO NOT do this... EVER! If you have, you should create a new wallet with a completely new seed mnemonic (that is NOT stored digitally) and move all your coins. This forum is littered with posts from users who lost all their coins because they had taken screenshots of their seed mnemonic, or written it in a txt/word document on their PC or put it in an email/IM message etc. DO NOT store your seed mnemonic digitally. Keep it "offline".

Quote
have it written on a paper too?
DO do this! double check your work...
2106  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Nano Ledger S Seed and Nano Ledger S Recovery on: September 27, 2020, 08:36:58 PM
You are massively over thinking this.
Quote for truth... Roll Eyes

Seriously jerry0, it's good that you're being cautious, but you are wayyyyyyyyyyyy overthinking all this. Just follow the instructions on the Ledger website (or that came with the device) to restore your device.

Refer: https://support.ledger.com/hc/en-us/articles/360005434914-Restore-from-recovery-phrase

After you have reset the device (or the very first time you plug it in), it'll give you the "Welcome to Ledger Nano S" screen with the "Restore from recovery phrase" option, simply select that, enter your 24 word seed and you're set.

That's all there is to it.
2107  Other / Meta / Re: Stake your Bitcoin address here on: September 27, 2020, 08:31:48 PM
what is this thing and how can I stake bitcoin
You can't "stake" bitcoin, like you can with some altcoins to try and earn coins if that is what you're thinking Tongue

What users are doing here is staking their bitcoin address for future reference... the idea being that by digitally signing a message using the private key for that address, they are proving "ownership" of the address.

In the future, should their account get hacked/locked or they want to do a trade/deal with someone who wants proof they're the "original" account owner and not an imposter on Telegram etc, they can prove their identity by signing a message using the same bitcoin address/private key.

Do anyone know how to start the script from beginning without using the start button. I have tried calling function within the function but it is not working.
Edited: Sorted, No need to use the stop function if you want to start it again from beginning.
Correct, stop() will halt the entire script... and the only way to restart it is to click the start button, or manually type start() in the console.

To "start it from the beginning" you just have to re-initialise all the variable like chance, nextbet, bethigh (and any others that you may have modified during runtime) back to the original values that you set at the very beginning of your script.

Then, when dobet() runs again, it'll be like your script just started Wink
2109  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: wallet.dat and co on: September 27, 2020, 08:23:09 PM
Yes... I should have mentioned that you're not likely to see any errors, but all the output will go to wallet.txt file.

In wallet.txt you might see a few hundred lines of weird errors like "Wallet data unknown" or something similar at the start... then you should see all the keydata output similar to this:
Quote
"keys": [
        {
            "addr": "1BitcoinAddressShownHere",
            "compressed": true,
            "hexsec": "b3xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx84",
            "private": "30xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx9b9",
            "pubkey": "02xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxb9",
            "reserve": 1,
            "sec": "LYOUR_WIF_PRIVATE_KEY_IS_KEY",
            "secret": "b3xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx01"
        },

The private keys in WIF format are highlighted above... in the "sec" field... you need to import those into the wallet of your choice.
2110  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: wallet.dat and co on: September 27, 2020, 08:59:57 AM
Can I ask why you keep putting "spaces" in your posts? Huh It's kinda confusing and difficult to tell if you're copy/pasting things which are "incorrect" or if it's just the way you're typing your posts! Huh

Anyway... try and copy/paste this entire command exactly as it is shown:
Code:
C:\Python27\python.exe C:\Python27\pywallet.py --dumpwallet --wallet=C:\Python27\wallet.dat > wallet.txt

2111  Other / Archival / Re: Phishing Scams With Electrum Wallet Users. Again on: September 26, 2020, 12:38:58 AM
I just want to add that I also just got done by this scam and I find it annoying from all those who say it's the users fault.
Firstly, sorry for your loss.

Quote
I can't understand why there is server side broadcast messaging built into the wallet, it was a massive oversite on Electrum's behalf.
There wasn't/isn't "server side broadcast messaging". The "bad" servers are simply sending an error response back to the client when it attempts to broadcast a transaction. The flaw is that the error response was printed verbatim and "rich text" was enabled, allowing URLs to be embedded.

Quote
Those who say it's the users fault for not updating their wallet. Well, we thought we we're updating our wallet from a message that came from within the software which wouldn't let us transact without updating.
It's not your fault for not updating... it's your fault for not verifying the update (and, to a lesser extent, not downloading from the official download site). If you have bothered to verify the digital signature of the downloaded installer, you would not have fallen victim to this scam. Undecided

Again, sorry for your loss.
2112  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Math problem regarding recovery seed on: September 26, 2020, 12:10:26 AM
First:  as for verifying the checksum, this github page lays out how bip39 works
https://github.com/bitcoin/bips/blob/master/bip-0039.mediawiki
There's just one bit of critical information missing from that page:  the precise syntax of the hash command.
Probably because there isn't just one command for creating the hash... it's just a SHA256 hash output of the initial entropy "ENT", so you are free to get this output in any way you seem fit... commandline shell tools, Python script, C++/C# libraries, Javascript, online website etc... It all comes down to how you are implementing/using the BIP39 process.
2113  Other / Meta / Re: Wall of fame / shame. Shit posts so bad that they are actually funny on: September 26, 2020, 12:05:45 AM
What's very odd with that one is that they even threw a couple of commas in, in some sort of half-hearted attempt at punctuation... so, it would appear that at least one of the punctuation keys on their keyboard works at least Tongue
2114  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: I need Help finding or recovering bitcoins off an old hard drive on: September 26, 2020, 12:00:53 AM
I still don't want to plug the 12 words I have to the blockchain.com server (yet), thinking of buying a hardware wallet as a ledger or trezor and try a 12 word wallet recover, however I believe they only accept BIP words!! Undecided
Correct, pretty much all of the hardware wallets that I can think of utilise BIP39 wordlists for mnemonic generation and wallet recovery. I am fairly confident that any hardware wallet you buy will reject your 12 words due to the fact that you have non-BIP39 words in it.

Sorry I Don't use/ know how to use Linux, got it on a flash drive and will try it on my offline windows PC hope it works. and this also works with non BIP dictionary words too right?
No, it doesn't. Ian Coleman's Mnemonic Code Converter works using BIP39 mnemonic word lists. It will be of no use to your if you have words that are not in the BIP39 wordlist.

2115  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: wallet.dat and co on: September 25, 2020, 11:55:28 PM
Based on what you've written, the command (with proper spacing) should be:
Code:
C:\Python27\python.exe pywallet.py --dumpwallet --datadir=C:\DirWallet --wallet=walletfile.dat

NOTE: This command should be used in the folder where pywallet.py is located!

Also, is the wallet file actually called "walletfile.dat"? Huh or is it the standard "wallet.dat"? Huh Obviously, it's very important you type the correct filename! If you don't use the correct filename for the --wallet argument you will indeed get the error:
Code:
ERROR:root:Couldn't open wallet.dat/main. Try quitting Bitcoin and running this again.
As, obviously, the script will be unable to locate the file Wink

If you tell me:

1. The folder where Python.exe is located
2. The folder where pywallet.py is located
3. The folder where "wallet.dat" is located
4. The actual name of your wallet.dat

I will be able to give you the commandline to run that should dump the wallet contents for you.
2116  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: wallet.dat and co on: September 25, 2020, 11:06:27 AM
You shouldn't attempt to run PyWallet with Python 3.8 (Python 3.x introduced a LOT of non-backwards compatible changes that can break a lot of scripts that were written for Python 2.x)... Note that Pywallet was written for Python 2.7.

So, I'd recommend uninstalling Python 3.8 (assuming you don't need it for anything else), and then installing the latest version of Python 2.7 for your OS from here: https://www.python.org/downloads/release/python-2718/

Once you have Python 2.7 installed, if you continue to get errors relating to "ecdsa", you need to install the "ecdsa" package using "PIP":
Code:
pip.exe install ecdsa

NOTE: pip.exe should be located in the "Scripts" folder where python.exe is located (by default, Python 2.7 installs to C:\Python27... so pip would be in C:\Python27\Scripts)
2117  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: How accurate is the fee estimation in Electrum? on: September 25, 2020, 10:51:57 AM
Wait what? They track an individual's payments based purely on TransactionID? Huh

That seems like a recipe for disaster!!?! And also prevents users from using RBF etc Undecided
2118  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: What's up with Coinomi fees? on: September 25, 2020, 10:46:49 AM
Possibly their algorithm works on a rolling average of X/Y/Z blocks for the three different fee levels... and it might just be that at "Low" it is looking at a slightly different grouping of blocks which have ridiculously high fees compared to the "Medium" set of blocks. Huh

But yes, that would appear to be pretty broken, there should never be a situation where "Low" fee is higher than "Medium", that's just silly Tongue
2119  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Wallet lost after windows installation? Used portable version. on: September 24, 2020, 10:53:14 PM
Had on my second ssd partition Electrum Portable Wallet 3.13
After I reinstalled Windows I wiped my primary partition.
If you were using Electrum Portable .exe, then the wallet storage is created in the same location as the portable .exe... it isn't stored in the "AppData\Roaming\Electrum" folder...

So, I'm a little confused by your description of the issue... you had Electrum on a second partition, and you wiped the primary partition? Huh If so, and your second partition is untouched, then your wallet should not have been affected at all.

Or were you using the Electrum standalone .exe? Huh  The "standalone" .exe does use "AppData\Roaming\Electrum" folder for data and wallet storage.
2120  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum not sending payment? Pending forever.. on: September 24, 2020, 10:47:43 PM
It is indeed watching-only, I suppose that that already instantly indicates that Electrum is not related to this address.
...
None of this is relevant at this moment since Electrum is probably just watching only as a used a Master Public Key. I suppose I should try to figure out the source of the address.
...
It was not installed yet, I indeed need to look for the source
All of that is going to be very problematic Undecided You've somehow withdrawn to a "watching-only" wallet that you do not have the private keys/seed mnemonic for. Until you get access to the private key(s) for that wallet, you will be unable to spend those coins. Undecided

I don't use Binance, so I'm not overly familiar with their products. Does the "Binance Wallet" you're using not ask for an address when you initiate the withdrawal? Huh Does it have a "stored" withdrawal address that it automatically sends coins to when you request a withdrawal? Huh

I guess I just need to figure out which platform is used for my wallet based on the software/apps that are floating around? Does anyone has any advice on this?
There are hundreds (if not thousands) of wallets and "platforms" that you might have generated a wallet on and got the Master Public Key from... trying to track down the exact wallet software or website you used is going to be VERY difficult.

Do you have any notes anywhere that include a 12/24 word recovery seed mnemonic? Huh The fact that you used a Master Public Key in Electrum would indicate that the source of that key is likely a BIP39 compatible wallet. These generally provide 12 or 24 word recover seed mnemonics...

Also, I'm wondering if you used Blockchain.com (previously blockchain.info) and tried to "export" your wallet? Huh With their HD wallets, it has a "show XPUB" option:

It's one of the few wallets that make it somewhat easy to actually find/display your XPUB.
