2261  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: scamed of little amount by user on: August 29, 2020, 09:49:47 PM
Based on the information in this thread, I have supported the flag... I also tagged the user with a negative trust... hopefully, they will react to that and come and sort this out. It's for such a tiny amount.

But it's a "worthless" newbie account, so maybe they just don't care Undecided
2262  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: scamed of little amount by user on: August 28, 2020, 10:54:13 PM
what does this means when flagging some one

Quote
You must create a topic describing the specific acts which damaged you. It must not be self-moderated.
As actmyname said, this topic already satisfies all the requirements for "a topic describing the specific acts which damaged you". It is required so other users can easily see your claim and supporting proof...

So just copy/paste the URL of this thread into the box: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5271935.0

After you have created the flag, you should "edit" your original post, and add in a link to the flag so other users can support it.
2263  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Storing the coins for day-to-day use? on: August 28, 2020, 10:44:48 PM
Let me sum everything up, see if I understood correctly.
If I want to have two wallets, one on the phone and the other on the computer, they must have different seeds.
No... they do not have to have different seeds. It is just recommended that you use different seeds, so you don't lose everything if your mobile device is lost/stolen, as this is usually the more likely scenario, as opposed to your home computer being stolen.

Quote
I can use the same seed, but it is not recommended.
Yes.

In fact, my wallet gives me access to the funds in that address which is found on the blockchain.
For instance, I can have 1000 wallets accessing the particular address with funds, then the wallet is kind of a debit card, accessing my bank account.
I used to wonder if that was the case. Now it sounds much more logical.
It isn't so much the wallet per se... it's the private keys that are contained in the wallet that give you control. Wallet applications are just a convenient method to store/manage and use private keys.

But yes, if you have 1000 wallets that have identical private keys in them (ie. restored from same seed, or imported same private keys), then they would all be in control of the same funds. Kind of like accessing your internet banking from two different computers... still shows the same balances, because it is accessing the same "accounts"... likewise, if you have the same private keys, you're looking up the same things on the blockchain.

It seems that everyone who has this mixer ad is quite tech-savvy.
Not always. Undecided
2264  Economy / Reputation / Re: Any moderator online? on: August 28, 2020, 10:31:57 PM
But high risk of what exactly? Why bother marking them if you're not going to lose anything to them?
Because if you don't mark people... then we get complaints that we're letting scammers "roam free" on the board... which we essentially are because scams are not moderated and scammers are not banned (unless they break forum rules).

Sometimes even marking them as a scammer still isn't enough... If I had 0.001 BTC for every time I see a scam accusation posted in the accusations board, go and check the user in question and they have 3 negative feedbacks from X months prior saying they are scammers, I'd have at least 1 BTC Roll Eyes

You did not bought anything from me or you did not sold anything to me and you left a negative feedback without doing a transaction with me via 3 accounts you own.

What you did: is calling someone a scammer without any proof , in real life i would sue you for millions of USD and drag you to court for years ,just for trying to ruin my reputation without proof.
You are lucky that your protected by your country laws. And that you are not in a european country ... in EU i can drag you to court.
What you did: is calling someone a "multi-accounter" without any proof , in real life they would not bother suing you for millions of USD and drag you to court for years ,because the courts don't care that your feelings got hurt by an "anonymous" person on the internet. Roll Eyes

The simple fact is, that you are asking people to trust you with money because you "don't trust anyone with money"... and that your "reputation" is on the line... but your reputation here is basically zero. Sure, you have a couple of positive feedbacks for some low value design jobs, but that's from five years ago... then basically no activity... and then suddenly people should trust you to hold funds for a betting scheme that you have no risk in? Huh
2265  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: I need Help finding or recovering bitcoins off an old hard drive on: August 28, 2020, 09:27:27 PM
No... the password recovery system was simply that, it would allow you access back to your account... but is not capable of restoring the wallet "from nothing".

You needed the "wallet.aes.json" backup file + password (which can be decrypted with a tool provided by blockchain.info)
or
Wallet-ID + password (+ access to email for 2FA), so you can log into their website

The "old" recovery system is here: https://login.blockchain.com/wallet/forgot-password?guid=
Their "new" recovery options are here: https://login.blockchain.com/#/help (the 12 word recovery option here is only valid for HD wallets from about 2016 onwards)

Where people come unstuck with blockchain.info is that they don't understand they can't just do a password reset... your wallet is stored encrypted with your password. Not even blockchain can modify that, so if you forget your password, you're not able to recover.

People have become so used to websites being able to reset passwords, they just don't believe that blockchain can't do the same... Undecided
2266  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: rescan wallet.dat old on: August 28, 2020, 09:17:35 PM
I need a tool that can rescan my wallet
What exactly do you mean by "rescan wallet"? Huh

Quote
not bitcoin-qt, another similar program

Code:
.exe old_waalet.dat >new_wallet.dat
Based on this, it seems like you're trying to convert the wallet.dat to some other wallet format? Huh If so, there is nothing that I am currently aware of that will do that.

At best, as jackg, suggested, you could export your private keys from the old wallet.dat and then import those to a new wallet. Bitcoin Core will allow you to export keys (even without the blockchain synced)... alternatively there are utilities like PyWallet that will enable you to dump the keys from the wallet.dat file.
2267  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum - Trezor (any hardware wallet) privacy question on: August 28, 2020, 08:51:39 PM
Your comments made me go looking... I had honestly never noticed the "Trezor Settings"!!?! Roll Eyes Tongue (probably because I mostly use the Ledger and clicking the Ledger icon doesn't do anything Wink)

Yes, it would appear that the wallet can read the DeviceID... which, as you say, could indeed be problematic for "plausible deniability" if a nefarious server received both the DeviceID and master keys... Undecided

I would guess this is not unique to Electrum either... and that any Trezor compatible wallet would be able to read this data Undecided
2268  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: I need Help finding or recovering bitcoins off an old hard drive on: August 28, 2020, 08:41:10 PM
sounds good, Will cross check them against both lists and see which is a match (hopefully)!
I forgot to mention that if you have words that are not in either list, there is a chance that it's an old blockchain.info password recovery mnemonic... in which case, you would need the wallet backup file or "wallet-ID" and possibly access to the email address you used to sign up to that service.
2269  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: scamed of little amount by user on: August 28, 2020, 08:35:44 PM
really appreciate experts advice, i was replied via pm from the user accused and asking me to contact
Quote
Add me on telegram:
@yolonu

here is the screenshot of the pm
https://ibb.co/1qBDmDg

i then installed telegram(i dont use it ) and added that user
see telegram profile screen shot.
https://ibb.co/Zd2yVg3

so marian-aa with 2 as pmed me to contact with the telegram id and that id had marian-aaa so guy is same ?
Excellent work. As far as I'm concerned, yes... it's the same user. That is the link between BitcoinTalk and Telegram that I was looking for.

You should also consider adding a flag to this user.

@Yolonu is different from @yolonu. Yes, character capitalization matters.
No... it doesn't... @Yolonu @yolonu @yOlOnU @YoLoNu are all the same... Telegram usernames are case-insensitive...
2270  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: wallet.dat in 2016 on: August 28, 2020, 11:12:20 AM
It's a Bitcoin Core wallet with an unknown password... of what use is a 12 word mnemonic brute force tool? Huh
2271  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: scamed of little amount by user on: August 28, 2020, 11:07:47 AM
Can you take a screenshot from Telegram confirming that the account you were chatting with was account "@yolonu" on Telegram... as per the account shown in the OP in that thread. (archived)

I see the Bitcointalk username is Marianaa with 2 a's... but you were chatting with a Marianaaa with 3 a's... seeing the actual @yolonu would confirm that it was the same account.
2272  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: wallet.dat in 2016 on: August 28, 2020, 10:43:59 AM
I only remember the first password I used
the password was then changed, I didn't remember
If you remember nothing of your 2nd password, then your coins are locked in that wallet forever. There is no "shortcut", no "backdoor", no "trick"... the only way to get access is with the password.
2273  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Bump fee window on: August 28, 2020, 10:36:23 AM
68 isn't that many in the grand scheme of things... if it was several hundred or 1000+ or something, then it might cause the throttling... but 68 shouldn't really trigger that.

There is no such thing on another PC on this wallet
And even stranger that it works perfectly on a different PC... there must be something in the setup of that specific PC that is causing the connections to go crazy like that... some AntiVirus/AntiMalware or firewall perhaps? Huh
2274  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Installed Armory and it's not doing anything (no preparing databases) on: August 28, 2020, 10:33:20 AM
So you're going to switch to Windows + Bitcoin Core + Armory? Huh

Honestly, you'll likely run into similar problems... especially if you have the Bitcoin Core datadir set to a "custom" location... I'd suggest bookmarking this thread so you can refer to it later, as the advice applies to Armory on Windows as well.
2275  Economy / Reputation / Re: suchmoon is trolling people topics and leaving negative feedbacks for no reason on: August 28, 2020, 04:51:49 AM
I have clients trusting me by sending me more then 0.01 eth for web design/developing projects and this guy accusing me of trying to scam people on  small amounts ,he is a joke ... noob
0.01 ETH is worth about USD$4

Quote
That's a BTC transaction for about USD$65, ostensibly for making a website.

How do either of these things make you in any way, shape or form trustworthy as an escrow? Huh
2276  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: I need Help finding or recovering bitcoins off an old hard drive on: August 28, 2020, 04:42:02 AM
It could be an early Electrum wallet... but I think Electrum was announced late 2011... so it's not likely. Likewise, I think blockchain.info was late in 2011... and I think their early "X word phrases" (which were actually used for password recovery and NOT seed recovery) were like 15 words anyway.

Seed Mnemonics were not that common back then... I mean BIP39 was only created in Sept 2013.

Have you checked the words that you have against this list: https://github.com/bitcoin/bips/blob/master/bip-0039/english.txt
I would also check this old Electrum list: https://github.com/spesmilo/electrum/blob/1.9.8/lib/mnemonic.py

It's possible that your timeframe is off... so:

- If ALL 12 words are in the BIP39 wordlist, try a BIP39 compatible wallet (you can also use Electrum for this... and select the "BIP39 Seed" option during seed entry)
- If ALL 12 words are in the old electrum list, try using Electrum (it'll still work with old mnemonics)

There may be other, more obscure wallets that were around in that time period... but I can't really think of any off the top of my head... Undecided
2277  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: ELECTRUM WALLET btc 0.001525 transaction reduced balance from 0.011 to 0.009475 on: August 28, 2020, 01:51:14 AM
Additionally... if you click the "TrustedCoin"/2FA logo in the bottom right corner... the fees are displayed:

It also says that "an extra output is added to your transaction every time you run out of prepaid transactions."

#caveatEmptor, I guess... Undecided

2278  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Bitcoin wallet Address changed after Importing private key to Android Wallet on: August 28, 2020, 01:41:03 AM
You can also check your private key and SegWit address here: https://segwitaddress.org/  (and the bech32 version here: https://segwitaddress.org/bech32/)

It's basically the same as bitaddress.org, but generates SegWit addresses instead of Legacy addresses.
(NOTE: like bitaddress.org, this should be downloaded and used OFFLINE!)

If you're looking for a wallet that supports Legacy and SegWit in a single wallet at the same time... Definitely check out Mycelium. Mycelium will allow you to import a single (compressed) private key and see the Legacy, Nested SegWit and Native SegWit addresses generated from that private key in one "account".
2279  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Installed Armory and it's not doing anything (no preparing databases) on: August 28, 2020, 01:35:12 AM
Theoretically, you don't need the "Bitcoin Install Dir" set... it's only required if Bitcoin Core is not installed in the "default" locations... Armory should be able to function "fine" without it, it is just possible that it may not be able to start Bitcoin Core for you automatically without it. No big deal, you can just start Bitcoin Core manually, then start Armory Wink

However, you do need the "Bitcoin Home Dir" set correctly tho...

This is the directory where the Bitcoin Core "blocks" folder is... and should be set to the same value as the "datadir" shown in Bitcoin Core (in the "Window -> information" screen). Without that being set properly, Armory won't be able to find and parse the bitcoin blockchain data.

I'd suggest:

1. Shutdown Bitcoin Core (if running)
2. Leave "Bitcoin Install Dir" empty
3. Set "Bitcoin Home Dir" to: /home/barbara/snap/bitcoin-core/common/.bitcoin
4. Leave "Armory Database Dir" empty
5. Shutdown Armory
6. Restart Armory

If it is still not working, then post the logs using Pastebin as suggested by bob123

2280  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Bitcoin Core software stuck, need help on: August 28, 2020, 01:03:04 AM
The only similar issues I've seen were from 3 or 4 years ago... it seems that, for whatever reason, your connections to the peers are "stalling" and you're not receiving any blocks. You're possibly either connected to bad peers or something on your network is preventing the data from arriving.

You could try and set your -maxconnections=1 (on commandline) or in bitcoin.conf as maxconnections=1... so you connect to one peer to start with, so it has a longer time to respond and start sending data before the system disconnects it.

Once it has started syncing up a few blocks and you have made it past the 2.81%... you could try shutting down and starting again without the maxconnection limit and see if it is working OK.
