I'm running Linux with the 15.12 drivers (R9 380 & 380x cards) and the Readme specifies that should be using "fgrlx 15.30.3". Am I going to notice a difference if I spend the time to upgrade to the newer driver? changing drivers can be such a pain that I hate to waste the time if I'm not going to really benefit from it. I already took a big jump going from claymore's 11.1 and (knock on wood) 1.6.0 is running stable.
so is the driver upgrade worth it?
First, I have Nanos, so the optimized kernels are different than yours, but when v1.4 came out with the asm kernels, I couldn't get it to run, even though v1.3.2 ran fine. I was running fglrx 15-201 drivers. Optiminer told me I needed to update to the latest fglrx driver, which is 15-302. I did, without too much pain, and v1.4 ran fine. But, since you are up and running stable, I wouldn't bother, just keep it in the back of your mind if/when some future miner update fails. I second that. If things are running fine with Linux/fgrlx 15.12 just keep using them. There should not be any speed difference in this case.

Some of my rigs have this issue with optiminer
[error] TLS handshake with eu1-zcash.flypool.org failed: certificate verify failed
How to resolve it?
Works fine here. You are probably missing one of the root certificates that the pool uses. You can try 'openssl s_client -connect eu1-zcash.flypool.org:3443' to see what your system thinks about the pool certificate.

Two of my 6xMSI R9 390 rigs work fine with stock .rom and Ubuntu 12.04/Cataalyst 15.12. The third one 6xMSI R9 390 with custom rom (made based on https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1465128) does not work at all on optiminer 1.5(either Ubuntu or Win7. Stops at once after the first card is initiated. Lower intensity does not help) but works fine on Claymore 11.1 and 1.4. @optiminer What can be the reason of that? Can you please give any suggestions how to troubleshoot this? Thanks There is not that much change between 1.4 and 1.5 so this surprises me. The number of computations done has been reduced, so it memory is probably stressed more which could interfere with your custom rom tuning.

Doesnt work on flypool with my rx480 anymore
Can you give some more details? What error do you get? What os, driver? Does it work on other pools? Using ubuntu 16.04 drivers are the amd 16.50 and the app sdk is 3.0.130.136 I dont get any error, its start the mining, I get the i/s but no s/s at all when I look at the pool stats my miner using lastest version is hightlighted in red and no solution at all going throught While all my other rigs are all normal with 1800 ss I suggest to try 16.40 drivers.

Are you going to fix the index out of range errors with the experimental kernel on tahiti cards?
AFAIK the index out of range errors only happen with nicehash, this does not depend on the kernel. The experimental kernels seem generally to produce wrong solutions on the GCN1 cards like thaiti. That's why I called them experimental I need to get hold of such a card to debug which can take some days.

I'm getting an "argument index out of range" error with v1.4 on a 290. Works fine on 1.3.2. Tried changing intensity values, taking out "experimental-kernel" but no luck. Anyone else?
This is a problem with nicehash and v1.4. Use a different pool or run 1.3.2 on nicehash. Will try to provide a fix. The root of the problem is that nicehash sometimes uses extremely long extranonces . This violates some of the optimizations I made for v1.4.0 which causes this error (it should have printed a nice log message but there was a bug there which ended up in this cryptic message).

Just finished reading the whole topic, but still couldn't find what I was looking for. It's said that hashrate in Linux is faster for newer cards, but how much faster? What are the hashrates for RX 470 4GB and RX 480 8GB in Linux and Windows? For Linux noobs like myself it'll take the whole day to read all the guides out there and setup a Linux system so it would be nice to know what kind of difference in hashrate is there before spending all that time and effort. It is not too hard to install ubuntu. And you just need a basic installation and download and run the miner from there. If this is still too hard you can use something like ethos http://ethosdistro.com/

First of all, thank you optiminer for your work with this miner. It is by far the highest performing one. However it behaves a bit erratically. For example, I use a rig with 4x290x cards (actually it's 2x295x2s) and without apparent reason, it stopped mining on two of them at one point. The cards are rock solid stable and they've never skipped a beat with Claymore's miner or previous scrypt miners. Please see the log below in case you have any suggestions (do note that from 18:39, only 2 GPUs seem to be mining anymore) So far all reported GPU hangs turned out to be hardware related and usually required a reboot to get the GPUs running again. I suggest to try the watchdog feature.
