It got a bit on Mineforman and techcrunch. lol oh boy

242  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Butterfly Labs just sent me an update e-mail! on: May 01, 2013, 09:59:17 PM
Hmm logged in.  No where to "Accept"  No popup or anything.

All my orders sitting as "Pending Acceptance"

Look for the 'here' link in the email. You will see a dialog box pop up on the BFL website asking you to confirm after you follow the link.
243  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: BFL ASIC STATUS Shipped on: April 25, 2013, 07:30:13 PM

Nice "Butterfly Labs" logo on the boxes. It will make it easy for thieves to pick out the money machines.

Josh said they would ship in "neutral" brown boxes with no logos. Oh well, another one of Josh's bogus messages ...

I'm looking forward to the next couple of months for the forum to be full of messages like this: "help!!!!!!!!!! my BFL shipment got lost!!!!!!!!!!!".

This is very concerning. Post men are smart, this is just silly. Even Apple knows not to ship its products like this. Come on BFL.
244  Economy / Securities / Re: ASICMINER: Entering the Future of ASIC Mining by Inventing It on: April 21, 2013, 03:15:59 AM
Uhhh  User 67117 is currently hashing at 3,587.23 GH/s, small downtime before big launch of new hardware?  I hope?

Yes, very curious.
245  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: BFL 20 April 2013 on: April 20, 2013, 11:18:00 PM

I only do that when the person is a scumbag, trailer trash or piece of shit.  Take Frizz for example... the ultimate piece of shit, but yet maintains an order with BFL.

I'm not here to take sides or stick my nose in the fire, but I was taken aback by this post.

No matter how you feel about said individuals, given your relationship with BFL this type of affront is disrespectful, unprofessional and serves no real purpose. You are doing no justice to the product you hope to one day serve up or the entity that stands behind it. You're in a tough fucking spot (and I empathize with your struggle) but that is no excuse.

These clowns who have FUCK BFL blah blah in their signature act that way largely because of this type of post from BFL employees. It's one thing to miss deadlines, its another to be a dick about it (even if you are only reacting to others attacks).

Your behavior reflects on everyone around you. This is your party, remember? You call the shots so do it with some dignity. Despite the fucks that may say otherwise, we want to see you succeed. It's in everyone's best interest. Rise above, we know you can.
246  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [VIDEO] Butterfly Labs (BFL) Bitforce SC ASIC Test on: March 31, 2013, 01:34:23 AM
Entropy can you be a bit more specific? What exactly would happen? Before a fire, that is...
247  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Litecoin is a ponzi, a pyramid and a pump and dump scheme and crap, too on: March 30, 2013, 02:41:27 AM

The difference between cryptos a big one because the coming of ASICs in BTC will likely push out GPU mining resulting in more centralized mining operations (and thus the BTC payment network). This in turn can lead to higher fees and security vulnerabilities. (e.g. you just have to raid the ASICMINER datacenter to take control of 20% of the hashing power). LTC will remain more decentralized because of the GPU friendly aspects. This is a good thing. Also if BTC transfer fees are higher than LTC, more people will prefer to use the latter (and vice-versa)

'
There is a window where that security risk is greater than others; once ASIC tech proliferates hashing power will be more evenly distributed than it is now. As it stands you have ASICMINER collective, the 900 Avalons and [I think] some other isolated occurrences.

Either BFL will ship or someone will come out with working product at a reasonable price and people will pounce on it. Problem will solve itself if I had to make an educated guess.

249  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: 2-3 weeks to go until the first unboxing of a BFL ASIC?? MAYBE? on: March 30, 2013, 12:16:08 AM
Why the hell do you need anti-virus software?  You're not stupid enough to keep your wallet on a Windows box are you?

This.

Installing "antivirus" software is a sure sign of n00bdom.  It says that you have no faith in your ability to retain control of your own system.

Us real h4x0rz never use the stuff.

Sure... and you are one of the guys that disable javascript just in case some virus will try to penetrate your system? Wink

I think you meant Java and not JS.

lol that was the joke :p
250  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Litecoin is a ponzi, a pyramid and a pump and dump scheme and crap, too on: March 30, 2013, 12:10:49 AM
Perhaps future updates will enforce some breakaway from the bitcoin model (although I assume its built on BitcoinJS, so it can only go so far) and give it some viability in the sense you discuss. Otherwise I think it will at the very least be a haven for outdated BTC miners and clandestine activities if/when BTC becomes too hot for certain activities. After that IDRK. again thnks great points bud
251  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Litecoin is a ponzi, a pyramid and a pump and dump scheme and crap, too on: March 29, 2013, 11:57:33 PM
All fair points.

The only thing I can respond with is this: because widespread adoption of BTC has only scratched the surface, there are many 'unkowns' in respect to how it will evolve and what shape it will take in the global economy. As such I can only assume there exists some possible outcome that necessitates the adoption of a similarly structured yet independently operated alt coin.

I'm not going to try and weigh in as to what might cause such an occurrence, but it seems like a possibility to me. No?
252  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Litecoin is a ponzi, a pyramid and a pump and dump scheme and crap, too on: March 29, 2013, 11:32:57 PM
altcoins are 99.9% identical to bitcoin and offer nothing new and much less.

Here is an argument I'm not sure I understand in full; just look at the global economy: there are many players in the currency game (USD, EUR, YEN, etc...) and they all operate under the similar philosophies of a transactional economy. So even if they are similar (see your 99.9% argument), history shows that such a reality is not a barrier to entry.

So regardless of their similarity in use-value and backend, the free market demands alternative currencies; the same logic applies to the alternatives to the alternative currencies. There are glass ceilings of course, but given the limited number of viable alt alt currencies atm, LC and at least a few others are here to stay.
253  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: My Beef with BFL (Constructive Criticism Only) on: March 29, 2013, 11:00:14 PM
I care about bitcoins and frankly even though I have  asics on order the problem is not bfl asicminer or avalon.  It is the bitcoin developers they allowed this to happen by allowing preorder system.  They simply could have banned asics until a seller had them built.  Instead they put all the risk on the miners.

Can you elaborate this statement, please? How exactly could the bitcoin developers have banned any specific payments or mining devices?

Sure when bfl posted back in june the developers could have simply said no unit that hashes over  29Gh will work at bit mining. Until said developer shows working prototype all workers are capped at 30Gh.
At the time I think some Fpga rigs could do  25 to 27Gh. This would have forced builders to build the rigs first since they won't be allowed to work unless tested.  Capping a worker at 25 or 30  or 40 Gh should be simple to do.  Now the network is in the hands of a few rather then many.

This would have  meant buying an asic  from bfl back in june would be far less attractive then it was.  Buying an asic is still crazy stupid hard to do (if buying means getting it in a week or less) and that is really bad for bitcoin.

Frankly I have 78GH (2x little singles + 2x jalapeņos)  on order from BFL I don't expect to ever see it  , but I will get my money back since the orders are paypal. I will just get a refund every 40 days then order a week later.  So far I have done this twice.

Basically take a good look at Avalon's actions They have sent out emails saying they are developing a mining farm and delaying the second batch along with the third batch getting a crazy price raise. There actions are bad as BFL's in every way except for the lucky 300.  The point I am making is asic's or the lack of the ability to buy them is going to kill bitcoins.  That is on the bitcoin program team not avalon not bfl and not asciminer. Since a 30 or 60 day ban on all workers with 30gh hash power would once again spread the network out instead of having a hand full of people or groups with most of the hash power.
I do not advocate an arbitrary ban on mining.  This sets a counter-productive precedent to the future management of the network.  People do not want power influenced in that manner.  In Bitcoin, you truly do vote with your coins.

Dalkore
I agree... plus it is a very slippery slope. One must tread with caution in that conversation. If the bitcoin network was under attack by malevolent parties one might consider addressing such a bottom-up approach to curbing the damage. Barring that, its a very bad idea.

And for all intensive purposes the introduction of ASIC miners (no matter how poorly executed by manufacturers) is not an attack on the system per se.
254  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Maximum value of bitcoins on: March 29, 2013, 10:45:11 PM
As you stated it would only be possible for them to acrue value equal to GWP if the world 'moved' to Bitcoin, AKA all other existing forms of currency (gold and other precious metals included) must be devalued/transferred into the BTC economy. Obvs that will never happen, because that goes against even the Bitcoin model, no?

I don't know enough about econ to verify your model but at first glance I guess you would do 21mbtc / gwp; you would however have to construct a model that takes into account the diminishing bitcoin pool [destroyed/lost wallets that are effectively unrecoverable].
255  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Newbie AVALON ASIC mining buy-in on: March 29, 2013, 10:25:55 PM
Here buddy let me help you out... go to the Custom Hardware subforum and check out how legit coop mining operations get into motion.

You're going to need a lot more than what you've got to be taken seriously.
256  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: BFL worth it now? on: March 29, 2013, 10:20:41 PM
900 Avalon units @ 68GH each=61.2TH

First batch BFL,5000 chips=625-8 chip boards=37.5TH

Second batch BFL,6000 chips=750-8 chip boards=45TH

Total Network Hashrate(approx)=61.2TH+37.5TH+45TH+35TH(before ASIC)=178.7TH

So,by July-September (my guess) 200TH:

60GH will earn 1.14 BTC per day or 34 BTC per month x exchange rate =  Huh

@ 600TH=.38 BTC per day

Make up your own mind  Cheesy

For me,yes its worth it  Wink

What about ASICMINER? Or would that not come into play for some reason?

Opps, don't hear much about them so I forgot, they'll have how much TH  Huh
IDK exactly maybe someone else could shed some light I see estimate figures nothing definite.
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=99497.0

Edit: ~6TH now with 12TH incriments until they top off at 50TH if I read correctly.

257  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Crowdsourced ASIC on: March 29, 2013, 10:13:57 PM
IMO Crowdsourcing would work better for buying bulk prefab ASIC chips (from Avalon, maybe helv in the future) and working from there; less risk if knowledgeable/experienced parties are involved. Vetting processes and possible recourse laid out in contracts etc...

August 9, 2012, forum user Friedcat describes investment opportunity for ASICMINER, which was to produce the chips to be mined by related organization MOORE mining.  $100K USD funds raised via GLBSE (equity crowdfunding), a record for a GLBSE raise, I believe, up until that time.

February 14th, 2013, ASICMINER running 2.0 Thash/s against BTC GUILD, with much more to com:

The first couple of weekly dividends on those ASICMINER shares were returning dividends of well over a third of the initial investment (in terms of BTCs dividend versus BTCs issued at).

bingo

260  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bought two Avalons, HUGE problems. Avalon is about to ship it to someone else??? on: March 29, 2013, 08:56:47 PM
Sick how greed turns people...

If you don't realize it, this whole forum runs on greed.

I don't think that's a fair assumption. You can have a healthy desire to accrue wealth without being greedy. It's a fine line but it's there.

I think the forum has a lot of both, but the good outweighs the bad. If it was the other way around the forum couldn't sustain itself. It would overrun by shit and no one would bother visit.
