'Nuff Said.

I don't care much about the fiat gateway capabilities tbh. This is just my trading account, in case I want to cash out fiat (doesn't happen much) I just shove up 2 x the trading fee and use another exchange of choice.

considering bitcoin-24.

If you only want to cash out BTC, then I'm a fan of BTC-E.

Why would you cash out at BTC-E where the BTC sells for $5-10 less than some other places?

Don't get me wrong BTC-E is my main exchange, just curious

I said cash out BTC at BTC-E. Obviously cashing out USD at BTC-E will get you screwed.
1083  Economy / Speculation / Re: Is there any reason Buys are much more spread out than Sells? on: April 04, 2013, 06:30:20 PM
I never said they do. It just feels odd that the vast majority of sellers all decided to pick one price ($150) to sell at, while the buyers are all over the place.
1084  Economy / Speculation / Is there any reason Buys are much more spread out than Sells? on: April 04, 2013, 06:26:19 PM

I haven't looked at BTCCharts very often until now, and I just noticed that there always seems to be this more spread-out Buy volume, while there is this monumental wall of sell orders in the $150 area. Is there any particular reason for this? Are the sellers just always more active and plan to put a huge wall of sells order in at, say, $200, the moment the price clears $150, or do the sellers really think nobody is going to clear out that huge wall they've set up?
1085  Economy / Speculation / Re: OK, THIS IS FUCKING INSANE on: April 04, 2013, 06:16:25 PM
to reassure themselves that it wasn't a bubble as well, which it quite apparently was. So, I just don't want people to use it to make themselves feel safe for no reason.
And now its many times higher than that price. Maybe, just maybe, that wasn't a bubble in Bitcoin price, but the time between then and now was just a bubble in USD valuation.  Shocked

MtGox takes forever to load Sad

I love gox for security and I loved it for the USD-codes. The USD-codes are a thing of the past start April 10th.

I'm keeping 50% of my trading balance at mtgox and moved 30% over to bitstamp. Don't know where to put the other 20%... suggestions?

Bitfloor.

Thats a lotta green on BTCcharts.
1089  Economy / Speculation / Re: Anyone have fundamentals to support a higher value on BTC? on: April 04, 2013, 05:53:02 PM
Just because a commodity is not being actively traded for products or services does not make it a bubble, nor does it mean it will never be traded as such. People will pay fiat for btc, and theoretically btc should hold its value better than fiat die to limited suppy in the long term. Just that alone is enough to not only justify its current price, but to indicate that further price jumps are pending.

In a very theoretical sense you are right, but a commodity that nobody really needs can fall to a price of zero at any time, if anything starts a sell-off panic.

If you have some basic need, however, the price cannot fall below the required value. In the case of bitcoin, if some people need some bitcoins for actual real-world trades, the total market valuation cannot fall below the total value of those needed bitcoins.
These sell-off panics are by very definition short-term. For the reasons stated in my previous quote Bitcoin is superior to currency even if they don't need to pay people with Bitcoins, as long as either (1) others need to pay people with bitcoins (2) they think in the future either they or others will need to pay people in bitcoins or (3) they merely believe that they will continue to be able to exchange Bitcoins for fiat.

What I'm trying to get at here is that just that third condition is enough to justify bitcoin's high price. Sure, MtGox going down suddenly (as it did yesterday, but honestly, who believed that it wouldn't come back?) can cause scares and since Bitcoin is so reliant on this third condition and has not yet diversified its value between all three Bitcoin's price will be affected, these scares will by definition become short-term as long as the exchangers DO come back.

So while Bitcoin won't reach its full potential or have a very stable price until condition (1) is satisfied, the lack of condition (1) being satisfied does not necessarily make Bitcoin some form of a bubble.

btc-china down to 915 CNY (147.43395 USD)
Thats considered "down to" now?
1091  Economy / Speculation / Re: Money Flow on: April 04, 2013, 05:23:29 PM
Sorry to be dense, but basically what you are saying is, that there is a serious resistance point at around $189 and another at $1274. What about support levels, though, or since there has only been one arc before is there not yet enough dips to draw any conclusions about that?

see how much any public bitcoin address has in balance  Wink

Thank you.
That balance for sure can be withdrawn with the private key?
Yes. And only with the private key.

Thank you so much. I've already transferred all the money to a separate address in the encrypted wallet to make sure its safe.

Also, a currency without  a high level of inflation would do wonders for the enviroment and global warming if accepted globally.
Not quite getting the link there, sorry :\
1095  Other / Beginners & Help / Whats the 'balance' of an address. on: April 04, 2013, 04:02:29 PM
I had some BTC in an ancient unencrypted wallet I've had since ever. I migrated to a client with an encrypted wallet later, however I forgot to delete the unencrypted wallet from my uber-old computer I use to pay the taxes. Now I have reason to believe that the unencrypted wallet may have been compromised, fortunately to a person who doesn't know what Bitcoin is. Still, I'd like to be on the safe side. Since then I have made numerous additional addresses and made numerous payments using my new client. Is there any way of checking the 'balance' of the addresses that may have been compromised? Also, can I use a bitcoind-style 'move' command to move the funds to an account not controlling that address, or does electrum even use 'accounts?' Or would it be best to just make a new address, and transfer my entire wallet balance to that address?

Basically I'm not entirely sure how the internal distribution of money works within a wallet to the addresses within that wallet. Could somebody explain it to me, or help me fix this problem?

Thanks  Grin

"An obscure digital currency – used mostly for running drugs and laundering money for dictators –" LOL, yea I'm sure all the dictators in the world are sitting in front of their computer, checking out Bitcoin charts, and wondering how they can launder their money in an ecosystem that's smaller than the amount of money they spend in a week.
WTF? Why would a dictator want to 'launder money?' They are the ones that define 'money laundering' in the first place.
1097  Economy / Speculation / Re: btc crashing, the great sell off has begun on: April 04, 2013, 03:43:11 PM
Now I need to make one of these threads so I can buy my coins. I missed last one because the MtGox lag locked me out entirely and I couldn't get money into btc-e in time Sad

Once the asics come in a couple of months difficulty will be so high I bet it could get that high.

But with such a high inflation rate currently I can't see it breaking as high as some people think until 2017 when the reward is halved again. By then USD inflation will have just started kicking in big time, meaning big money will want to come in to protect itself, just as the inflation rate decreases.
