Out of curiosity. Is there someone among the dudes that preordered neptunes, that has done an actual estimation for difficulty and ROI?

History has proven its a fruitless excercise.

very very rough estimation without evidence to proof it...just gut feeling:

4.2K Thera - Neptune 1st Batch (1200 Neptunes)
1k Thera -  Bitmine (estimation I dont know how many machines they sold out)
2k Theras - Hashfast  (500 Theras just for IceDrill group...no idea how many machines each batch)
2k Theras - Cointerra (no idea how many machines each batch)
---------------------
9.2 P Hashes at least in the next 6 months

you miss a lot of H/s along the way.

use this as a start https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=283820.0

take into account that the aformentioned estimate is not exhaustive. e.g it doesn't include
bitmain's off the shelf products https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=348747.0

763  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: November 29, 2013, 03:23:22 PM

What is your ambient temp? Can you manage to get it a little bit warmer?

My ambient temperature should be around 15 ºC

But what do you mean by getting it warmer? Isn't it better to have lower ambient temperatures?

My you have a lot of reading to do Smiley
What do you mean, I should increase the room temperature? This doesn't make any sense in my head... why the big heat dissipation units and the fans then?

28nm seems quite peculiar in this matter... it seems that some miners the warmer they are the better they perform. some people said it could be related to GE VRMs rather than asic chips themeselfs, take this into account since your miner use Ericsson rather than GE.

anyway use the search function of the forum to get more info about it
764  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: November 29, 2013, 10:32:43 AM

766  Economy / Speculation / Re: I'm a pig. Is it awfully wrong? on: November 29, 2013, 09:35:18 AM
Yes, right now I am a bear but long term I'm bull. And I'm a pig also because I do not want to sell until 10,000. And also I'm stupid because I plan to help some poor friends / relatives with most of my bitcoin.

If I'd stop now, my life would have a great advantage. But no, my brain decided I'm not good/knowledgeable/mature/experienced enough to play with big money. It said that I have to differentiate between "needs" and "wants" and live a modest life.

I wonder if I'm doing it right or I'll epically fail.

what can I say... I'm a pig myself Tongue

anyway what you describe is a wise plan. stick on it.

I might sound like a grumpy old man but I can't stand listening or watching the media at the moment - articles about Bitcoin just make me roll my eyes or cringe excessively.

I am a grumpy old man, and I could never stand listening to or watching the media. Articles about anything make me roll my eyes and cringe excessively, most times accompanied by vomit.

I'm grumpy and old myself ...

@Holliday is my memory playing tricks on me or is your post/activity value fluctuating more than btc those days?
776  Economy / Speculation / Re: Reality Check on: November 29, 2013, 07:01:10 AM

As far as I know the largest US exchange is facing severe problems in this domain and the largest one in EU (BTC-24.com) shut down in April and has still not returned its users their money. Other ones like BTC-E and BTCChina are very shady to begin with so not even getting into that.

Sorry to derail the thread but btc24 gave back all Bitcoin present in the exchange, all the money held in their German bank and now are in the process of returning 72% of the remain found being held on a Polish bank.

Of course there are plenty of  reasons for what happened to btc24 and they're more related to the unprofessional (not dishonest) way the owner managed the exchange rather than not.

I'm sure I'll have no problem pulling 2100W from the wall, but I am wondering where I'm going to find an ATX power supply to handle that much.  Maybe 2 power supplies will be expected?

I think it is a reasonable solution
778  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: November 29, 2013, 06:05:48 AM
Ok guys i'm going to hook you up with a couple of firmwares imminently.

But...

But...

(said twice for dramatic effect)

One is for the November box. For the Ericsson VRMs - big yellow stickers, have Ericsson written on them, were delivered in November.

One is for the October box. For the General Electric unbranded silver VRMs. The tuning suite.

Make sure you use the correct one.

It won't kill your device, but it may require you re-flashing the beaglebone via an SSD card if you flash the wrong one.

It future a uniform intelligent release that differentiates between the pair will be available.

Currently this therefore relies on the intelligence of the user, i.e. you.

So...Lips sealed

They should have come with a notice in the box NOT to flash the firmware with it. I'm sure KNC can afford the paper and toner to print these out so the users know beforehand. Unless some people really are telepathic here.

They're labeled pretty clearly on the download page with some red warning text saying not to use the wrong one on your unit.  Do you really need more warning than that?

I may be wrong, but I think they did it after the fact... the guy who almost bricked his new miner want to flash back the 0.99-E and he wasn't able to find it on the support page, I did check my self and there was no sign of "-E" firmaware nor red warnings.
779  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: November 28, 2013, 04:18:10 PM
Wow, I'm seeing some great performance increases out of my 2 add-on boards in my Jupiter. I'll post details later, but first few minutes show an increase from ~700GH/s to ~750GH/s. I still have two dies that are offline and I'm slowly tweaking to see if I can get them online.

very well
keep up posted
780  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: November 28, 2013, 02:44:11 PM

Yes, I was there... lost almost a day of mining :/

But, there is a way to fix it, since even after flashing it keeps the needed files:
- login to your Jupiter by ssh
mount -t vfat /dev/mmcblk0p1 /mnt/1
mount -t vfat /dev/mmcblk0p2 /mnt/2
cp /mnt/2/initramfs.bin /mnt/1/initramfs.bin
shutdown -r now
- after it comes back up, if it still doesn't work, do an hard reset and power off/on and then it should finally work

did hno help you on irc then?
Yes, he did Smiley

I'm glad!
