Morning Guys,

Losing weekend for me so far.. Hoping for a bit more rain on the 5th day of the 5th Ashes test.. looking at 5/6's to 1 on a draw. A remarkable fightback from the Aussie Openers' last sessions yesterday.
@Webtricks - what are your thoughts?

Looks like a draw. But Aussies are playing with the intent to win. I would say it ain't over until Smith and Marnus say so. I am rooting for Australia.

I had a conversation with Steve both In Forum PM and Telegram. It's nice to know he and Sportsbet founder love and play cricket.

That's true! Steve is a powerful hitter. His huge sixes are there on YouTube.
6  Economy / Gambling / Re: -Sportsbet.io- - Main sponsor of Southampton FC on: May 27, 2023, 10:50:11 AM
@webtricks really good to hear you finally saw the man, the legend, the Steve. Curiously, I also have (had) a liver problem, though that was more from an unfortunate encounter with a certain nasty parasite several years ago. Still drink, but nothing like the rest of ClubTalk seem to be able to chug haha.

Post stadium pics if possible -- never seen one in India. Do you also watch football there? I read it's getting serious...

Steve will be sending me some pictures of the event soon, I will upload a couple of those when received. Here are the videos of the stadiums that I captured on my mobile:

1. Wankhede, Mumbai: https://streamable.com/g7bpnb. This is the match Steve invited me to. We had the seats in Grand Stand, one of the best locations to watch the match in Wankhede: straight boundaries and the whole stadium view. Even though the seating capacity is just little over 30K, Wankhede is among the top 3 stadiums in India when it comes to the crowd experience.

2. Kotla, Delhi: https://streamable.com/jnfw3z. I watched this game a day prior to Wankhede game. This is the home ground of Delhi (the team in blue) but you can see that 90% of the audience is wearing yellow. Can you guess the reason? The answer is: 'Our Beloved Captain Cool MS Dhoni'. This man has stature equal to what Messi or Ronaldo have in World football, even more for Indians. Delhi is 2200km away from Chennai but still everyone is cheering CSK for a single person.

I watch football but I'm not a fan of Indian football. I don't follow ISL. ISL is not very famous in North India as compared to other parts of India. I am an avid fan of Barcelona and Messi in particular. I haven't watched football live in stadium yet but planning a trip to Camp Nou in winters if Messi miraculously makes a return to Barca in the upcoming season.

Hi Guys,

Another "Beers with Steve" done and dusted in Mumbai.

A little bit of a different one this time as my good mate "Webtricks" doesn't drink beer, but this is perfectly fine and was more about the meet-up and learning what Webtricks is upto on his Crypto adventure!

The two events we attended were top-class.   Shocked

We saw Cameron Green hit a 100 to win the match for Mumbai Indians, and then a private function with Brett Lee where we had a chance to get photos and talk to the man himself.

Cheers again for the catch-up and let's look at doing another one soon!

Haha, I have my liver to blame for that. I am diagnosed with a liver condition and advised not to take alcoholic drinks. But booze or not, it was really nice meeting you. It was wonderful getting to know about sportsbet.io, your efforts promoting cricket in Europe and all the amazing people associated with the business.

The game was amazing. A high scoring encounter. I have been a SRH fan for several years now so it was a bittersweet experience for me, nonetheless, hearing 30K Mumbai fans roaring every time they hit six surely gave goosebumps. And ofcourse, the innings from Green was spectacular.

But nothing could match the joy of meeting Brett Lee. All those India-Aussie encounter memories from the childhood came pouring out and I was overwhelmed. The event was fun, the food was good and that tequila sequence was epic! Cheesy

Thanks for the opportunity. I will be glad to meet-up anytime soon.

P.P.S. @webtricks Photos, please, and plenty.

Haha, I better not dox myself but let me find some good ones to share from my gallery.

I wonder who that might be?  Roll Eyes Haha, looking forward to meet you soon Steve!
11  Local / India / Re: Can you Save Tax through Crypto Donation under Section 80G on: May 11, 2023, 03:12:22 PM
I have explained two types of crypto incomes in this post: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5448950.msg62095602#msg62095602. If your crypto income comes under the ambit of Section 115BBH then no deductions are allowed except the cost of acquistion, hence, deductions under Chapter VI-A (80G is a part of this) are also not allowed.

But if your crypto income is not taxable under section 115BBH then it will become a part of your regular total income and you can claim deduction for donations u/s 80G. However, there is another catch: the new regime doesn't allow any deduction u/s 80G so if you are paying taxes under new tax law then donations isn't helpful for you. Do consider this factor before doing the tax planning.

~~
Welcome back @webtricks. Looking at the signature that you are wearing I am assuming that we will now here from you more often.

Haha, thanks for the welcome! Bitcointalk has been always my first love in crypto and indeed it's a pleasure to contribute on the forum and let me assure you that the campaigns aren't something that induce me to be more active on the forum. That's why I always look to join campaigns with no minimum post so I don't just write posts for the sake of reaching minimum condition.  Tongue

This why it is better to use a local exchange than a P2P service platform as on a  local exchange TDS deduction is done instantly when you do a trade. Whereas if you do not use a local exchange you have to do the math all by yourself.

Just a reminder: 7 years jail if you do not pay TDS on time

Good point. It is always better to use the standard mediums and avoid any possibility of compliance mistake. The prominent Indian Exchanges have properly implemented TDS structure and better to use those if the amount isn't big.

Just went ahead and read the big article. Everything issue has been discussed with an example which was helpful. I also found out that upto INR 50k as a crypto gift would not attract tax in a this financial year. The other thing that I understood is that for filling the form you would need a CA or a tax consultant. The form for me is not personally still not clear. Last date of submission is 31st of July.

The ITR form takes into consideration many things. The things like multiple house properties, capital gains and/or business income have implications on the choice of ITR. So like you said, it's always best to consult a CA or a tax consultant before filing the income tax return.

~~
1% TDS will be applicable on the total $7000. This is very important point. I missed it in my post above. When you sell crypto on Exchanges, the whole amount is considered as the transfer. So while showing the amount of consideration u/s 115BBH, you are required to show the whole amount $7000 but you can show $5000 as the cost of acquisition, hence the net amount chargeable to tax u/s 115BBH will be $2000.

That clears so many things. I was always under the assumption that EVERY crypto income is taxed under 30% tax slab.
This was very much unfair according to me since traders were taxed only on their profits but the ones who are being paid in crypto were taxed on the whole income.
Now that things are more clear, I think the income from campaigns will be added to our income from our full time jobs in INR.
Together both the income will be taxed under the normal tax slabs if I am not wrong.

Yes, both incomes will be taxed as per the normal tax slabs but remember, don't directly add the campaign earnings to your salary from the full time job. Both will be shown under separate heads.
14  Local / India / Re: Not all crypto earning will be taxed on the 30% on: April 15, 2023, 06:17:54 PM

-snip-

$5000 at USDT/INR rate on the date of sale will be taxed as per normal taxable rates whereas $2000 at USDT/INR rate will be taxable at 30% under section 115BBH.
Will 1% TDS be applied on $2000 component only or on the total of $7000?

15  Local / India / Re: What happens next? on: April 15, 2023, 02:56:13 PM
They first did a shadow ban. We, as in the community took it to the Supreme Court and got justice. Next, they were confused as to how to stop us!

They came up with a crypto tax as we all know. It did gave us a jolt that made some of us leave. Later we got more clarity on tax because of @webtricks. Two topics that gave us a clarification on the tax law.

1. TDS on Cryptocurrencies [Explained]
2. Tax on Crypto Trading as per New Tax Law - Explained

What do you think will be the next move? Will it be a new tax law to suck the blood out of us or will be it against the local exchanges & international exchanges. If you have anything on your mind then go on and reply.

I don't think that the government is in hurry to ban or regulate cryptocurrencies anymore. By bringing the crypto trading under the harsh taxation rules last year, they have already curbed the Indian crypto market effectively. I haven't read the state of affairs of the Indian Exchanges for the financial year 2022-23 but I'm not very optimistic. I am estimating a drop of 80% in trading activity in comparison to FY 2021-22.

If you hear the recent statements from the government ministers and officials, you will notice that the narrative has changed. Till 2021, the government was proactive in banning or controlling the crypto. But since last year, you will see that they are deviating the topic by citing the need of international collaboration due to the possibility of regulatory arbitrage. They know that the market is effectively dead by their absurd tax rates and TDS requirements that they don't have to do anything proactively anymore. Cryptocurrency Bill which was listed under the agenda for Parliament in 2021 is no more on the schedules this year.
16  Local / India / Re: Not all crypto earning will be taxed on the 30% on: April 15, 2023, 02:43:07 PM
The article is indeed correct. After going through several discussions and talking with various experts, I'm finally certain about the language of Section 115BBH. It only deals with the trading income. If you are earning crypto from any other activity, it doesn't come under the ambit of Section 115BBH. However, such other activities give rise to two taxable events. Let's take an example to make it more clear:

One of the items in the table above is 'Getting paid in crypto' which includes campaign payment on the forum. Suppose a participant receives $100 weekly in BTC but doesn't immediately sells it. Finally, he sells his annual income after 50 weeks which should be $5000 in BTC but due to the fluctuation in the prices of BTC, it stands at $7000. It is clear that $5K out of $7K is an earning from the campaign but $2K is the profit from speculation. Hence, $5000 at USDT/INR rate on the date of sale will be taxed as per normal taxable rates whereas $2000 at USDT/INR rate will be taxable at 30% under section 115BBH.

Thanks for compiling these threads @BlackBoss_. It's been a while since I last wrote a detailed thread. I think it was a good idea to do technical threads on Bitcoin in a relatively simpler way in the Beginners' section. I will start doing this again as Bitcoin had some major improvements in the last 3 years.

Also I was going through the threads and it seems like I have included some less researched stuff in those. I will edit these and make the threads more technically correct while keeping those easier to understand at the same time.

Well, they have recently set the bar high in that regard, being able to bet on players or users of forum on Sportsbet, although it must be said that the first time that this happened, at least as far as I know, it happened in a poker series.

Such a distinction is due to Mr. From position 8.  Cool

BITCOINTALK POKER SERIES FINALE BETTING MARKET

....]

I completely forgot about this! Webby created and sponsored this event, there was a max bet of 500 Doges or something like that. Amazing things happened in these games, there was a lot of passion and some people made a special effort to take these poker series to a higher level.

Yes, the noise comes from Betnomi... Ico and Cygan are working on something. I believe we will find out more about it after New Year.

Haha, thanks @famososMuertos to bump this up and remind us of the good old days. The lockdown had been a blessing in disguise in some ways. Playing poker with the fellow Bitcointalk members was surely one of the highlights of my lockdown memories. Is Betnomi planning another tournament? It's been a while since the last one. Looks like Sorsis and Betnomi are doing good on the forum. I would like to join it if it suits my schedule.
