BITCOINTALK POKER SERIES FINALE BETTING MARKET

I have updated the rules slightly for betting odds handling: Now, user can only bet at maximum 500 DOGE per bet.  You can still deposit and bet more than 500 DOGE, however, you will have to make more than 1 bet. For example, if you want to bet 1500 DOGE on 'Betwrong', you first have to make a bet of 500 DOGE at current odds then odds will readjust, after which you will make the second bet and then the final bet after next odds adjustment. So, in total 3 bets.

There are still loaded accounts available with 500 DOGE ($5) bonuses. PM me to get your account and make your bets on the next poker king!

183  Economy / Gambling / Re: Betnomi Poker Series $1000 (OPEN to ALL) on: January 07, 2021, 09:23:30 PM
Great job @webtricks with the betting page and thanks for that bonus 500 doge. I made a couple of bets on my old poker buddies. 100 on webtricks, and 400 on iv4n. iv4n is a beast when things get tight and my favorite for the series, added bonus I managed to win one of previous satellites against him so I can tell myself I am better than all of you if he wins Smiley
....

P.S. Now I see that the odds on my choices dropped but other remained the same. Is it supposed to work that way? I was expecting odds on non chosen players to rise.

Thank you @Trofo. Yes, odds were intended to work that way. This was done to prevent astronomical rise in odds for the players who haven't received any bet. So, unless the player received one or more bets, his initial odds won't change. But now all players have received at least one bet so odds for the remaining players will rise if one of the player receives bet.

Here's the screenshot of the current odds:

BITCOINTALK POKER SERIES FINALE BETTING MARKET

After noticing the users' interest, I decided to create betting market for our series finale. The initial odds are as shown in image above which are calculated based on the performance of the players in this series. I have written dynamic odds algorithm which will automatically change odds after each bet made based on user's probability and bet made on the user.

HOW TO MAKE BETS?: The site doesn't have signup facility for security reason. So, I have pre-generated accounts, anyone who's interested to try this fun event can PM me to get unique user id and password. Also, PM me your Dogecoin Wallet address, I will send your winnings to the address after event ends and bets are settled. You can send me the address later too (after the event). The minimum bet is 100 DOGE and maximum bet is 500 DOGE per bet.

FREE BONUS: I have also included the bonus of 7500 DOGE. First 15 accounts are loaded with 500 DOGE ($5) each. So, you don't even have to deposit in order to bet. In case, you want to bet more than 500 DOGE, you have to PM me and I will provide you DOGE deposit address. Send more DOGE to the address and I will manually fund your account.

This event is open to everyone, you don't need to be the series player to join. However, $5 bonus is only available to first 15 players so hurry if you want to claim bonus.

PS: Please don't post account request in this thread as it may consider as incentivizing to post by mods and you&me may get temp ban! So, I will only provide login details via personal message.
185  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcointalk's Alexa Rating during this bitcoin bull run and some funny stats.. on: January 07, 2021, 02:39:25 PM
Alexa ratings are pretty useless. The ratings are calculated based on the pages surfed by the users who have Alexa extension downloaded in their browser. Now tell me how many of you have Alexa extension downloaded?

~

Dang. I didn't realise that. That is pretty much worthless. What motivation does someone have to install the extension? I could understand if they get paid for it somehow, but I doubt it. Seems that data can come from the websites themselves as well if they've included the Alexa script, but still how many of them do? Reminds me of how worthless TV ratings are. In the UK at least there's a Broadcasters Board and they recruit a mere 12,000 people to report back to them about what they're watching and how they rate the program. Given that there's 66+ million people in the UK I'm not sure how they're meant to represent the entire population, and especially not accurately. That's one good thing about streaming services as they know exactly how many people are watching.

There used to be a bitcoin-based Ad Network by the name of Mellow Ads (don't know if it still exists or not). The network had requirement that website needs to have Alexa rank lower than 200K to be listed as publisher.

So don't know about others but the motive behind downloading the extension for me was to improve Alexa rank of my websites. I used to download the extension during the development phase (400-500 pageviews daily) and it usually took 13-14 days to improve the rank and make it less 200K. It was that easy to manipulate Alexa rank back then. Since then never bothered to remove the extension and it's still active in my browser.

187  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Is there a way I can use a single seed for all my cryptocurrencies? on: January 07, 2021, 07:19:13 AM
Yeah! It is possible to have same seed for most of the cryptocurrencies. BIP-44 defines the hierarchy of deterministic wallet or popularly known as derivation path, however, it has only allocated coin_type value for Bitcoin and Bitcoin testnet. Hence, SatoshiLabs steps forward and defines the derivation path for other coin types in SLIP-44. You can visit here to see hardened child used as per SLIP-0044: https://github.com/satoshilabs/slips/blob/master/slip-0044.md

I am not sure about secure wallet which can provide you the access to all coins you needed but one thing is sure, if wallet supports mnemonic seed as defined in BIP-39 then you can import same seed you use for bitcoin for that wallet/coin as well.

Considering Indian section is pretty inactive and there aren't many Indians on forum, India coming at second spot is certainly due to me. I have Alexa installed since 2018. I guess nutildah has Alexa installed too and he uses search engine to login to his profile.  Roll Eyes Well, if not then it's pretty impresive.
189  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Have you ever proven fairness of games? on: January 06, 2021, 12:28:21 AM
Hi!

This is a question that has been on my mind for quite some time. You can see the term 'provably fair' used all over the place in the Bitcoin gambling market but in this case I'm referring to in-house games in casinos which offer the option to prove fairness of the game to the player.

Have you ever proven fairness of a game yourself or know someone who has or do you simply trust a casino claiming their games are provably fair?

Good question. I feel happy to see such threads. Although people argue that gambling is for fun and all but you won't want to have fun at the place which willingly not letting you win. So in my opinion, every player should understand how Provably Fair system works, set his seeds himself and occassionally verify some of his bets as well.

I have been writing few threads on Provably Fair lately but I think this is my best article explaining the system: https://www.btcgosu.com/provably-fair/. If you want you can give it a read sometimes.

Also, I see that few members already gave you the Verifier link above, you can use the verifier and prove the fairness of bets. Currently, it's supporting 26 casinos as we speak. You can suggest more casinos if you would like to get them added in the tool by writing your suggestion in this thread: BTCGosu Thread.

Also, let me know if you got any doubt regarding Provably Fair, I would be happy to help in this thread.

PS: Thank you @Text for mentioning me due to which I noticed the thread.
190  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⚽ BitcoinPRBuzz.com's ⚽ Spanish La Liga ⚽ Football Pool Discussion Thread on: January 05, 2021, 06:31:51 PM
By the way, anyone expecting major Laliga transfer-in or transfer-out in the current winter transfer window? What's the buzz around?
I am expecting quiet transfer window. Most teams are doing very bad financially due to covid crises. Real is maybe one exception but I believe they will wait for summer transfer window and they can't be happy about rumors that Spurs are returning Bale.

We will probably see some cheap transfers to mend the holes in squads. Maybe some older players which still have a half a season or season and half to give on top level. Other than that there could be some player exchanges. I would not be surprised if Barca does some high profile exchange including Griezmann.

I doubt if Barca going to get any high profile player in 1 to 1 exchange for Griezmann. He is playing like an average middle-rank team player. Except that laser beam goal against Osasuna, I can't even think of any of his highlight moment so far this season. If we just consider current season and forget who Griezmann was before that then I won't value him more than $10-15M. No sharpness in game, no sprints, no aggressiveness, he's pretty average Joe right now. I think it would be bad move for Barca too to let him go cheap in current window. They should let him find his feet and get a striker in exchange for him in summer window.

One player that I think Barca would have off-loaded in winter window if not for injury is Coutinho. If I read it correctly then Barca have to pay €20M more to Liverpool if Coutinho plays 100 games at Barcelona. He's already at 90. With Pedri as the regular starter, Coutinho would have been a good option for Barca to get their pocket recovered in pandemic.

Bale back to Real, o man! Zidane once again gonna have sleepless nights.  Cheesy
191  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Old story. Exchanges get profits from users' withdrawal fees. on: January 05, 2021, 09:06:56 AM
Okay, so the essence of this thread is that don't use exchanges for storing, sending and receiving bitcoins because along with non-custody, you have to pay higher fees for transactions.

But I have an argument in favor of Exchanges: we as the users shouldn't assume 'withdrawal fees' equivalent to 'network fees'. What if you ask me to take your car to the service station, get it serviced and bring it back to you? Won't I ask you more money in addition to the car service fee for my time and efforts? Same goes for exchanges. They charge withdrawal fees in addition to the network fees for creating transaction and broadcasting it on your behalf.

If you like it then it's good-good, if not then better start taking your car to service station yourself (use non-custodial wallets).
192  Economy / Economics / Re: The Rise of Layer 2s Could Spell End for Altcoins (opinion) on: January 04, 2021, 06:39:09 PM
~snipped article https://www.coindesk.com/rise-of-layer-2s-altcoins-like-ethereum ~
Interesting read. One of the smarter and more informed opinion pieces I've had the pleasure of reading.

He contends blockchains will lose prominence in a paradigm shift towards off chain layer 2 applications. And that alts whose unique blockchain features are their main claim to fame will fall by the wayside as a result of them being less suited to survive and thrive in an off chain world.

Traders and investors could second this analysis as some alts are not maintaining pace with BTC ascension to $30k.

This seems like a good topic for discussion. How do you see things?

Yeah! This seems like a logical prediction to me. If we look at the current scenario, there are several notable blockchains which provide smart contract infrastructure like TRON, EOS, Stellar, etc. but Ethereum is undoubtedly king for smart contract creation (more than 98% DeFi apps are running on Ethereum). This shows that people prefer 'perceived value' over 'features that blockchain is offering'. Even though Ethereum network is facing scalability issue and high fees, people are still happy to host their dApps over it because they perceive higher value for ETH than EOS, TRX or other altcoins.

But with growing application, Ethereum may not sustain this for very long. So, layer 2 is kinda logical solution for the problem. People can create independent blockchains, host more complex applications over it and most importantly can use fuel currency which is pegged to the value of BTC/ETH. So, they can enter into new utility ventures and at the same time remain tension-free about the fall in portfolio's value in relation to BTC/ETH prices.

One of the reason why Layer 2 (or sidechain) isn't popular yet is the interoperability, especially for Bitcoin. Ethereum being smart-contract friendly blockchain can easily be bridged with other chains. But Bitcoin was specifically designed to be only used for storing and supporting financial transaction and still has no support for other data or utility. So, it was a long-standing challenge for developers to come up with 1:1 interoperability between BTC and on-chain currency in the most decentralized manner. As mentioned in articles, RSK and Polkadot have recently achieved good feat into this. RSK's PowPeg and Polkadot's Parachain can be stepping-stone for upcoming Bitcoin Layer 2 developments, who knows. I have written how RSK PowPeg works yesterday, here:  https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5305771.msg56001246#msg56001246

really hoping for Valencia win tonight, what was a "not that good season" in the beginning, is now a worst season in a while, and "relegation is an option here" to quote famous Elon Musk statement "failure is always an option"
Cadiz last won was over Barcelona, and Valencia last win was over Real Madrid, and all the beautiful draw-lose matches afterwards (Copa del Rey excluded)

however, never betting on teams that support, so will not put Valencia on a betting ticket, but win is there in the pool

It is a great game for Valencia to come back on winning ways. Although, I haven't seen recent Valencia games (except one against Barca) but I am following Cadiz games and they are looking way off in those. I'm predicting a comfortable win for Valencia (most prolly 2-0). Valencia 1x2 win has good 2.05x odds, I have added this one in parlay tonight.

195  Other / Meta / Re: BTCTALK CARDS - The Real-time Custom Cards for Bitcointalk Members on: January 04, 2021, 09:09:58 AM
@webtricks do you think that making an embeddable HTML5 card with post/merit/activity count and rank/DT status where you can just fill in a user ID to render it is doable? I don't think there's much work involved besides setting up a domain and an API which people can call to get base64 image data. The cards can even be plain and simple without decorations if that makes it easier, I don't mind.

Yeah! This is certainly possible to do so. You can create HTTP request with username in API call, server can create card in real time and send back base64 image data as response.

Rendering image in HTML webpage is also possible. I am doing this in my Bitcointalk Face-off Game. First cards are created on server side using PHP which is then rendered in front-end. Alternatively, you can go for HTML5 card creation too. The work flow for that would be, first server will fetch the data then javascript will create HTML5 card in front-end using the data.

Just to confirm if I understood it correctly, what do you mean by 'embeddable'?
- image that can be shown in html page using <img> tag, or
- image to be shown in html page immediately after creation, or
- <embed> tag of HTML?

Are you planning to create something? If you want to share, I may help you with the flow.

Final game of the series before grand finale and I don't see many joined yet. Only 4 so far, including me. Just an hour to go, I hope most of you will show up to make this one cheerful even if you are qualified for the finals or have no chance of qualifying. Smiley

Thanks for the great info. So the PowPeg protocol  is using some sort of hardware to enable a trustless (as in not trusting a human) bridge. Thanks for this update. The hardware device referred as PowHSM is run in conjunction with a special type of Full node.

The issue mostly pointed out about this is the finality time needed for the Peg-in and Peg-outs. What are your thoughts on this @webtricks? For example, If a trader moves funds to the RSK sidechain, he needs to wait 200 blocks to confirm it on the sidechain. Though, just like the wrapped BTCs, if a platform of trading develops on the other side, traders will find it easy enough to buy, sell and use BTC on the sidechain. Irrespective of when they have been ported.

High confirmation time is necessity in the case of sidechain. The Bitcoin blockchain/network may undergo some kind of change or reorganization. Since, sidechain is entirely dependent upon Bitcoin, it may fail during such event. So, it is necessary that sidechain has the heads up of atleast a day or two.

And yeah, there are already wallets and platforms providing service to swap RBTC. So, instead of pegging-in BTC to RSK network, one can simply use wallets like Defiant which provides internal swap options. You can buy RBTC with BTC or vice-versa instantly. Here are the options available to do so- https://www.rsk.co/openfinance/
198  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What Are all Bitcoin wallet file types ( extensions ) used by bitcoin clients ? on: January 02, 2021, 05:49:34 PM
hello guys ,
i just wanna know what are all the file types ( extensions )  of bitcoin wallets used by bitcoin clients !
we all know : .dat =) used by bitcoin core  &  aes.json =) used by blockchain.info
but i wanna know all the other extensions that are probably being  used  by other clients !!!? ( especially online ewallets ) !!

File extension has no relevance in bitcoin wallets. It can be any format. It's just a file which stores details like private key, public key etc. As a wallet developer, I can store keys and data in any format. It basically depend upon the security level and more on how my application is made and how it fetches the data for signing and verifying transactions.

okky , that's a great answer mate !
But i just wanna know what are  the common ones used by bitcoin developers in online wallets clients  at the beginning of bitcoin ( 2009-2012 ) !!!

Can you tell the exact purpose for which you are asking this question because I still find your question vague. File extension is highly subjective matter and differs from wallet to wallet, for example Electrum wallet file doesn't even have the extension. By the way, this page covers wallet formats for few notable wallets: https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Wallet

And what exactly do you mean by 'online wallet'? All wallets need to be online to broadcast the transaction. Or do you mean 'web wallet'? In that case, unlike blockchain.info, most of the web wallets are custodial wallets and don't create wallet file for users. They rather save users' keys in centralized database. Moreover, I doubt whether there were many notable web wallets in 2009-2012 period.

Anyhow, you need to be more clear with your question and tell us what exactly are you trying to achieve to get more relevant answers.
199  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: De-Fi on Bitcoin on: January 02, 2021, 04:45:43 PM

Unfortunately, RSK is not very popular in the crypto/Blockchain space.

can anyone give me the tl:dr on what RSK can do (or not do), and why nobody uses it? i remember it was the talk of the town a few years ago.

RSK is pretty much like Ethereum blockchain as far as use-case is concerned. You can create complex transactions, write smart contracts, lend or borrow like DeFi dapps, etc. In-fact, smart contracts are written in Solidity only just like Ethereum chain.

The major difference which makes RSK different from Ethereum or other blockchains is the way network security is maintained and how it is linked to Bitcoin. RSK secures its blockchain with merge mining which means Bitcoin miners can include the merkle root of RSK transactions while mining and use the same computational power for RSK as well. Since, the difficulty level is lower for RSK network, Bitcoin miners can quickly find block solution for RSK so new RSK blocks can be created quickly than Bitcoin blocks which means more scalability, more transactions and less fees.

In order to move bitcoins to RSK network, an independently executable smart contract known as Bridge Contract is used. A user sends bitcoin to multi-sig address. The private keys of the multi-sig address (better known as Bitcoin PowPeg Vault on RSK) are stored in special-purpose microcontrollers (inside PowHSM device) which virtually makes it impossible for any party to know them. On top of that, PowHSM device is included with SPV node. So when user sends fund to mutli-sig address, bridge contract builds the RSK transaction with equivalent RBTC, then sends the unsigned transaction to PowHSM devices. Next, the SPV node of the PowHSM independently verifies whether enough confirmation has taken place, if yes then independently signs the transaction using private key, sends the signatures to Bridge Contract which accumulates all signatures from different PowHSMs and create the final signed transaction, broadcast it and user gets the equivalent RBTC on his RSK address. Withdrawing the funds (known as peg-out) works the same way in opposite manner.

Since, 90% of the Bitcoin miners today are doing merge mining, out of which 60%+ are doing for RSK so it is safe to assume that RSK sidechain is securer than altcoin blockchains. Morever, in-built SPV node and tamper-proof micro-controllers make functionaries of RSK superior to other sidechains. So, on whole we can say RSK is one of the best alternative available today for smart contract creation.

RSK is still in development phase. The process of peg-in and peg-out which I explained couple of paragraph above is known as PowerPeg protocol which is only-recently introduced. Earlier it was using centralized custody of funds by multi-parties on Bitcoin side. That maybe the reason, RSK doesn't have wide acceptability like Ethereum yet.
200  Local / India / Re: Video Sources for Beginners on: January 01, 2021, 06:00:21 PM
Nice thread! YouTube is a good platform for beginners to get first piece of information about anything. I watched couple of videos from the list. Videos have good beginner's content, however one thing most of the introductory videos do wrong is selling blockchain as some kind of magic which IMO is irrational. For example, in the quoted video, instructor refers blockchain as -

Quote
distributed real-time peer to peer immutable database

Adding the word 'immutable' without context is misleading. After referring blockchain as immutable, he goes on explaining how it can have various use-cases like voting, real estate, etc. just because blockchain is immutable. But this is not true. Blockchain is mutable. Bitcoin's blockchain is difficult to mutate due to very high requirement of computational power required to perform Proof-of-Work. But this can't be said for other use-cases.

If blockchain is to be used for let say, Real Estate, who is going to add data to the chain? Government? If yes then how much work will the government do to secure the chain? Would that be enough to avoid 51% attack from external agents? One argument against this is government will use permission-based blockchain where only government will have permission to add data. My counter-argument is, if it's down to permission then what is wrong with using centralized permission-based database? An important point to consider before dreaming to build Rome on blockchain is how are you going to make blockchain secure at first place.
