101  Bitcoin / Wallet software / More than 10 phishing wallets detected on the Snap Store, be careful on: April 02, 2024, 01:17:30 PM
Published articles reporting phishing in stores:

Canonical cracks down on crypto cons following Snap Store scam spree

Guess Who's Back? Exodus Scam BitCoin Wallet Snap!

Never download wallets like Exodus, Electrum, etc. from the spap store, the chances of being phished are extremely high. Never download any wallet outside of their respective official websites.

Wallets like Electrum are only available on their official website and the download page states that it is available on the Google Store:

The same goes for the official Exodus website:

When downloading any software wallet, it's highly recommended to check its gpg signatures to ensure the integrity of the file.

Doing some research within the forum, I found some threads teaching how to check gpg signatures of software downloaded on different OS:

[GUIDE] How to Safely Download and Verify Electrum [Guide]

[Eng: Tutorial] PGP Signature - Encrypt/Decrypt message - Fingerprint

How to Verify PGP Signature of Downloaded Software on Linux

Some tips to avoid falling for scams:

  • Always have a decoy wallet, in this wallet you must reserve a amount that you are willing to lose (something like US$3 ~ 50) when testing a new wallet just downloaded, you enter this test decoy seedphrase, after all, these fake wallets usually have a malicious code to drain wallets immediately as soon as a wallet with amount is imported, so if your decoy wallet is drained, you will know right away that it is a scam wallet.
  • Simply have a hardware wallet, preferably open source or an airgap computer exclusively for bitcoin wallets.

I found a very interesting post of NotATether about how to avoid being hacked (or REKT) by fake wallets and other tips as well: Protect yourself from fake wallet software (guide)

We are thinking of going Pay-Per-Post, what do you think?
I think pay-per-post is more interesting, as it's more flexible for people who don't have a lot of free time, in short, if you think it won't harm the campaign and come to an agreement.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA yea I see you as full member now and 138 merit. In any case, I'll change the sheet.
We were tricked by April 1st hahahahah, anyway, here's a tip: you can check the true amount of users' merits by copying the profile link and pasting it into another browser where you are not logged into BTT.
106  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Import address from Sparrow to Bitcoin Core on: April 01, 2024, 02:58:55 AM
It seems to me that you imported the descriptor without activating the descriptor that you intend to use only for receiving,

Basically you didn't include the "active":true argument in the descriptor for receiving and you also didn't include the argument: "internal":true in the descriptor you want for change addresses.

I assume you already know how to import the descriptor, so I'll skip the part on how to assemble a descriptor and get the checksum.

In the receive descriptor, you must include the argument: "active":true, in the change descriptor you must include both: "active":true,"internal":true. I'll leave the examples below and bold them to indicate what was missing in your descriptor. My example is in the console gui.

Descriptor you would use to receive: importdescriptors '[{"desc":"tr(your_xpriv/86h/0h/0h/0/*)"#checksum","timestamp":"now","active":true}]'

Code:
importdescriptors '[{"desc":"tr(your_xpriv/86h/0h/0h/0/*)"#checksum","timestamp":"now","active":true}]'

change descriptor: importdescriptors '[{"desc":"tr(your_xpriv/86h/0h/0h/1/*)"#checksum","timestamp":"now","active":true,"internal":true}]'

Code:
importdescriptors '[{"desc":"tr(your_xpriv/86h/0h/0h/1/*)"#checksum","timestamp":"now","active":true,"internal":true}]'

As for the "importmulti, sethdseed, importprivkey" commands, they only work on legacy wallets, as the error statement says.
107  Local / Português (Portuguese) / Re: Mudanças no sistema de merit on: April 01, 2024, 12:39:56 AM

108  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: What needs to be improved or added to your preferred BTC Wallet? on: March 31, 2024, 09:58:25 PM
While Bitcoin is a modern currency and future of the money, its wallets luck modernity and that's strange. Bitcoin wallets look very old, I mean, their visual aspect and user experience standards don't meet the modern demand, instead, they are mostly created for developers who don't care about visual side and functionality is the most important factor.
For example, Sparrow, that looks way better than Electrum, seems to be harder to use then Electrum because of probably a bad infrastructure but looks more modern than Electrum.

By the way, I'll ask here, who created this app? https://play.google.com/store/apps/dev?id=5750589945930020869
Answering you about the link, it seems to be the schildbatch wallet, it's known by the old guard because of the developer's name: Andreas Schildbatch, it was the first mobile wallet that existed and I consider it one of the safest. However, the schildbacth wallet is limited in features that I consider essential, such as customizing fees, this has already been suggested on the project's github, but the developer considers it advanced and that this is a wallet for beginner users.

Commenting on what I think about the UI of wallets like Electrum and Sparrow, as I said, these wallets are more suitable for experienced users who don't care about UI issues, however some wallets like Ledger that have a modern and beautiful UI, have several options that I consider useless, such as the buy button, exchange button and the essential send and receive buttons are mixed between these buttons, I think the main function of a self-respecting wallet is to send and receive, there is no need to invent trends.

I believe that a user who has never used a ledger finds it strange to see a bunch of buttons and it takes time to find the send and receive button, in addition, both the send and receive buttons, when clicking on them, go through a useless verification process, why complicate things? If I click on receive, I want the address to appear immediately so I can copy and check the address on the device. So UI isn't everything, it's essential that the wallet has a good UX too.

116  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What is the best way to store your seed phrase? on: March 30, 2024, 05:43:27 PM
You're absolutely right splitting of seed phrase in multiple parts sometimes you might lose one part, I think is advisable to have the seed phrase all joined together in a hidden place, so as to avoid losing your seed phrase however,I don't split my seed phrase rather i put it in a very hidden place.
It's not advisable to split a seedphrase into two parts or more, if you want to have a protected backup, it's safer and more reliable to extend these words (passphrase) where the seedphrase is something you have and the passphrase is something you know.

Yes, you're right. Although I knew this detail, I didn't make it very clear. I think extended words is the best definition.
