1  Economy / Economics / Re: List of Bitcoin Hostile (and friendly) Banks on: December 18, 2013, 08:02:42 PM
The new-ish online-only bank Simple are Bitcoin friendly! I asked the other day and their response was:

Quote
Hi,

We won't close your account because of a transfer from Coinbase. I didn't even know until recently that people were having that problem at other banks! So weird. Anyway, you're safe making that transfer into Simple.

Have a good night!

-Caitlin

The response specifically only mentions Coinbase while I asked about Bitcoin and exchanges in general, but based on their attitude towards everything else I'd say they're completely bitcoin-friendly.

Quick update!

Version 1.1.1:

* Fixed a bug that would cause the app to crash when reconnecting
* Updated the menubar text to be more appropriate
* Clicking the menubar item will now correctly invoke the app
3  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: MtGosis - Streamlined OS X trading/ticker app on: February 04, 2013, 05:10:15 AM
Two issues, when I have it in the menubar, the first is when you have the application in the back and you click the menubar, it doesn't bring it front. Also in the menubar you have a bitcoin symbol when it should be a dollar symbol.

Thanks for the reports! My thought behind using the bitcoin symbol was that it indicates what the ticker is for, while a dollar sign could be anything. It probably does make more sense to use a dollar sign though, since that's technically what the price is.

I'll check out the menubar icon clicking not working correctly.

So, open-source or not ?
Didn't find any kind of source link on the website.

Agreed is it open source, and also maybe add a chart, also I would like to use this but not give it my mt gox info is there a way to just have this be like a ticker?

It's not open source quite yet, but I'll probably release the source here soon. I would want to clean up a bunch of half-finished code before doing that Tongue

And yes, if you don't give it any API details you can still use it as a ticker. To make it just a menubar ticker, just turn on the menubar ticker in preferences and close the main window.

Nice but could you add the option to select different currencies?

GBP in particular! Smiley.  Grin

Very smooth looking!

Added to my todo list, thanks!

I think my little hobby project is finally in a state that I can call it 1.0! I posted about it almost a year ago and got a pretty positive response. I've added a couple of the suggestions from that thread for the 1.0 release, and fixed a bug that caused streaming to not working at all in the last release. I hope you guys enjoy!

To download it, head over to http://stith.me/MtGosis/

I make no guarantees that it won't nuke your account, but I've been using it myself for a few weeks and it's been working great. Let me know if you find any bugs or have any more feature requests.
7  Economy / Goods / Re: [WTS] DOTA 2 Keys on: March 27, 2012, 10:08:42 PM
I have 2 DOTA 2 beta keys for sale.  Let me know offers.
1 BTC!
8  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [BETA] MtGosis - Streamlined OS X trading and ticker utility on: March 21, 2012, 05:58:25 AM
Yup, all good now... BTW, would you consider a vertical option. There's plenty of vertical real estate on most widescreen monitors so I could just place it on the side in that way.

Other ideas for future development:

1. Alert when the price drops/raises to a pre-defined value
2. How about a small menubar ticker?

All great ideas! The menubar ticker was going to be my next addition.
9  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [BETA] MtGosis - Streamlined OS X trading and ticker utility on: March 20, 2012, 03:46:30 PM
Executable seems to have disappeared from the website... Any ideas?!
Whoops, thanks for letting me know! Fixed!

Hey man don't jack my thread, I'm ego tripping here! Haha. Do you have a main announcement thread we can discuss your project in?
11  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [BETA] MtGosis - Streamlined OS X trading and ticker utility on: March 08, 2012, 06:50:43 PM
Thank you! I haven't noticed that. The app is certainly elegant and right to the point. I like it! I have donated 1.76 BTC from aurumxchange.

I will keep your name in mind since we are looking to develop a desktop/iphone app for our company where users can quickly check exchange rates, and perhaps even place an exchange order. Once we know WTF exactly we want to do with it, I will definitely contact you.

Awesome, thanks!

As a mac user, thank you so much for this wonderful app! I was wondering if you are planning to open source it? I am a bit leary to enter my API credentials since they could be sent by the software anywhere. Please don't take this the wrong way Smiley It is just that we keep 5 figures on our mtgox account at all times Smiley

Roberto

I know it's not much, but I promise it isn't sending anything anywhere! For more solid proof, if you have software like Little Snitch (which I love), you can verify 100% that the only thing this app connects to is socketio.mtgox.com, which is MtGox's streaming API interface.

Also, for a bit more security the page I link to is on my personal site, which includes my full name, and my actual address is in the whois information for the domain. I would never do anything shady like that online, especially when connecting it to my real identity!

I love it wow is so helpfull, i only ave 2 suggestions, ones is when you buy or sell have the field where you put the amount clear it self, and also have the btc ballence in your acount clicacble, like if i have 4.72084430 in my balance  and i want to sell it, i just click my balance and it automaticaly fills up the field.
Oooo great suggestions. I'll work on both of em over the weekend.

Windowz, now!
I've tried programming for Windows, it's a nightmare.
15  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [BETA] MtGosis - Streamlined OS X trading and ticker utility on: March 08, 2012, 04:23:31 AM
Would you consider adding a Bitfloor trading option? The API is very similar Smiley
I built it to be pretty module so that's definitely possible, but this application uses the streaming websocket API for all communications, and their connection-based API is nowhere near similar to MtGox's!
16  Bitcoin / Project Development / [BETA] MtGosis - Streamlined OS X trading and ticker utility on: March 06, 2012, 05:12:31 PM
Hey guys!

I'm proud to announce my first release of an app I've been writing for a bit. I present to you MtGosis, a small efficient utility I created to make trading on MtGox as painless as possible.

It's very un-tested right now, so I'm dubbing it a beta and recommending that you don't point it at any high-value accounts. There shouldn't be anything it can damage, but I can't make any guarantees.

The UI is quite obviously 'borrowed' from Bitcoinica, I think their website has a great layout for quick and simple trading.

To download just check out http://stith.me/MtGosis/

Please send any feedback my way in the form of email, a reply to this thread, or any other way you'd like to get a hold of me. Especially if you find anything wrong, I really want this thing to be stable.
17  Economy / Speculation / Re: +200% profits on bitcoinica in 1 day on: January 18, 2012, 02:00:22 AM
I lost a bunch of money on my big bet?! It can't be my fault for taking a big risk, it's definitely the exchange's fault. POLICE!
18  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Block 142742 on: August 27, 2011, 03:30:41 AM
Here's one of the input blocks:

http://blockexplorer.com/address/1eHhgW6vquBYhwMPhQ668HPjxTtpvZGPC

Definitely MtGOX, they used those 424242 transactions in the past to prove that they had control of funds after the hack.
19  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Console daytrading platform for mtgox exchange[released] on: June 10, 2011, 10:57:09 PM
It's not open source if you take the source back down before anyone can get it Tongue
20  Economy / Marketplace / Re: How I got scammed by tiner on IRC chatroom on: June 09, 2011, 05:22:22 PM
It seems you have both been the victim of a very clever and well-executed scam. To give away the ending, it was a man-in-the-middle attack by a 3rd person. The scam was so good, in fact, that no one here seems to be able to recognize what actually happened. Sit back and listen as I recreate the scene:

0. The scammer (pork_) recognizes that #bitcoin-otc has a very serious flaw and sets out to exploit it to make a quick 20BTC for free.
1. The scammer (pork_) advertises that he wants to buy BTC on the #bitcoin-otc channel, and tiner contacts him about a sale
2. The scammer (pork_) and tiner agree to the terms of the sale, and tiner gives him his PayPal address so pork_ can send the payment
3. This part is crucial: The scammer (pork_) now has a limited amount of time to find a buyer to complete the scam. To give himself some time, he says: "<pork_> ill be a few minutes"
4. The scammer now goes into the channel using a different nick (let's call it "h___"), and advertises that he wants to sell some BTC for cheap (to get a buyer quickly)
5. jacker224 contacts the scammer (h___) and offers to buy the BTC
6. The scammer (h___) tells jacker224 to send the money to tiner's paypal address, and jacker224 does so
7. The scammer (pork_) tells tiner that he sent the payment, when in actuality it was jacker224 who sent the payment
8. tiner verifies that he has received the money, and sends the BTC to the scammer (pork_). As far as tiner is concerned, the transaction was 100% legit.
9. The scammer (h___) leaves his conversation with jacker224 without sending ever him the BTC

But how does jacker224 contacts tiner?
Do you mean scammer logs in with tiner as nick (and not h___)?

Wow, that totally fits. I wouldn't have put it together, but I'll be sure to watch for stuff like this in the future. Nice eye, KCanini!
