Your title is about bitcoin pump and dump, but your thread is about tether. Tether has little to almost nothing to do with manipulating the bitcoin price.By the way,the bitcoin price can still be easily manipulated, despite the 209 billion market cap.All we need is a good working propaganda machine that will spread a lie about bitcoin "going to the moon" very soon. The majority of the corwd will start buying bitcoin like crazy.
Im a bit confused too about the thread title and the post about tether. As davis196 states the value of bitcoin can be pumped or manipulated but a direct "pump and dump" is difficult IMO without the top 10 or 20 or 100 bitcoin holders making an organised campaign to do so. It would be a different thing to pumping and dumping shit coins.

As usual the thread is divided between those who want and dont want banks to accept crypto and after reading the OP im thinking why? Why is this going to be such a great thing?
It actually bring home the fact that there are people out there who dont care about the readon bitcoin was created, what it offers and why it shoukd remain seperate from any mainstream bank.

Its difficult for people wanting to get into ICO'S, it is difficult to know what is real and wgat is a scam, and the scammers know that. The trouble with naming the scammers is that it can take a while to figure out what is a scam and it means the scammers can make off with their reward.
The only way is to not get into any ICO's, play it safe but this would hurt the legitimate orojects also.

Hey OP, You could have mentioned its bitmain and they're trying to have a monopoly on mining and have a vague IPO that may or may not die shortly. https://www.thestar.com.my/business/business-news/2018/08/23/bernstein-crypto-miner-bitmain-may-be-losing-its-edge/Bitmain has likely been acquiring large amounts of Bitcoin Cash, posing a “major risk” as the Bitcoin offshoot’s value declines, Li said. Bitcoin Cash has tumbled by about 68% since the first week of May, versus a 30% drop in Bitcoin, according to Bloomberg composite pricing. Nobody cares about their stupid patent and companies trying to create monopolies in bitcoin deserve to go under like bitmain will. Yes but on the other hand if it helps others to use bitcoin without having to possibly use A computer or an internet connection it would be positive, pity its pushed by bitmain. Transactions via SMS look like an outdated feature for us, but this feature can be a bridge to get adoption from Generation X, in my country most of Generation X is still actively using SMS feature for their transactions, maybe with this feature we can get their adoption
About Generation X, yes I would agree that the older generation are still predominantly Using SMS but are more likely to have a PC and Internet access and a smartphone. Hmm, its a strange one and a bit archaic with a question over security i think.

Bitcoin is already a global currency but not "officially". FIAT will also exist in a digital form and both will coexist. I really cannot see crypto putting an end to FIAT because not everyone is going to accept it, no government will want to adopt it either because they cannot regulate it.

This ETF event was not the end goal for Bitcoin, Bitcoin will keep on trucking. There will be steady growth and adoption along with the usual trading as always. The OP makes it sound like all hopes and dreams are pinned on ETF.
|
|
|
I don't know if we can consider it as price manipulation. Manage your expectations that it will be delayed again. Bitcoin doesn't need ETF. It will continue to exist without it.
This we bitcoiners know it but this new traders and users of crypto currency dont know it. They are just needing it in the hope that market will bounce back and move just like last month. Market is not reacted much so i think it should not get lower if it got rejected. Yes for the long term outlokk this ETF is just a blip, another chapter in Bitcoins life story. Its the short term outlookers who are focusing on the ETF to make a gain on the announcement.

The current market is a time of holding and buying and not the time of selling. It is a time of adding to the wallet in advance of rising values. The rising could take 12 months though.

I'm sure that we already have a lot capable and very creative people in out bitcoin community. Soon or later we will see some novel or even movie inspired by bitcoin, no doubt about it. Remember movies about Steve Jobs, or FB? How long we had to wait?
Yes I agree, it is such a magical story which is ripe for a novel or movie. It can have everything, Conspiracy theories, Thriller/suspense sequences espionage and scam stories, authorities running around after the wrong person AKA Satoshi hunt!

Crypto cannot be banned because no one entity controls it. What can be banned though is the owning of it, but how would anyone know you own it other than tracking how you get it other than cash. People will find a way to own bitcoin and if you have an internet connection you can get it.

How did the artist put the QR code on the painting? Did he also painted that one out?
I think he did. This guy is very creative and he's using it for donation. I've seen someone posted this before and it's very inspiring to those people that are very appreciative with artists artwork. Is that even possible? As far as i know there are certain keys for the QR code that should be done how it is. If that qr code is really working then that man is crazily talented. But I think that is really impossible to draw. Or maybe that person is using a printed one for the donation part. I would imagine he has used a stencil, graffiti artists use stenciling in their work a lot particularly when the same shape or design is used repeatedly. It is possible to use skills in design, writing and programming to earn a living as a daily full time job, its exactly like being self employed, you have to do lots of matketing and networking to build a client base and build a business, crypto is no different.

Will altcoins ever recover their value? A lot wont, some will and a few certainly. There are a lot who move from ICO to ICO and the ICO's are not relenting, tgere is project after project starting and at the moment we are seeing an increase in Bitcoin dominance. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=4900272.0;topicseen

Just happened across an article from May 2018 about a street artist who is earning crypto from his Graffiti work by placing a QR code for people to send rewards - great idea! > http://cryptotimes.org/bitcoin/street-artist-nets-1000-bitcoin-qr-codes-murals/https://www.pboy-art.com/biographieThis goes to show there are many ways to earn crypto and the lesson is to be creative and think outside the box. We can all earn crypto legitimately if we put our minds to the task and market the idea. Im just throwing it out there but I would love to read a part fiction/part historical novel about the creation of Bitcon and Satoshi Nakamoto

Potentially yes it might. Bitcoins value grows year on year and the lowest value every year seems to be higher than the year before for the last 3 years. But its an unpredictable market and anything can happen.
Why 1 year, why not 10?

|

Do you think Satoshi wanted the market to grow that much? So many different companies, ICO's, different opinions etc...
Obviously its hard to tell if the Satoshi entity WANTED the market to grow but im sure Satoshi was aware that it would happen. Its a simple case of supply and demand. There is limited supply obviously and we could say that the supply is actually reducing due to wallet anomalies (forgotten passwords, incorrect wallet adresses, etc.) Combine this with an expanding adoption im sure if satoshi could create bitcoin Satoshi would have forseen the growth.

At a time when FIAT currency is moving away from being physical to digital why do we want to change a digital currency into something physical other than collectables and wallets?
Smartphones are widespread so we dont necessarily need computers to use bitcoin

54%, thats up from 51.7% in the last 2 weeks, its growing. I floated a thread recently throwing out the idea of getting rid of useless coins and trading them into bitcoin even at a loss. I think for a number of months some people have started focusing more on bitcoin. This and a lot of people gave been burned by ICO's, bitcoin is somewhat of a reliable haven.

I believe also that both will coexist together but they will be used for different things and will perform as now differently. FIAT has borders, bitcoin doesnt, FIAT is rraceable bitcoin isnt.

I bought bitcoin when it was around $14,500 in January and I am still holding because I am not discouraged. I have great hope that bitcoin is going to increase in price and volume in some years to come.
I assume that as you are a Sr.Member this was not your first acquisition of Bitcoin? Anyone with a good understanding of bitcoin and what it was designed to do knows that increased adoption is inevitable and it takes time. Long term outlook of bitcoin is essential unless you are a trader looking to make gains.

Almost anything can seem complicated at the start but with perseverance and dedication anything can be mastered. All people need to know is the value of 0.00000001 for example And how a wallet works for sending and receiving payments.
