784  Economy / Speculation / Re: GBTC Bitcoin Investment Trust Observer on: July 25, 2017, 10:39:46 AM
I just read Jimmy Song's article, and it has me wondering what will happen to the potential value of the Bitcoin Cash coins that can be redeemed from the Bitcoin private keys that Xapo is holding for GBTC shareholders.

https://medium.com/@jimmysong/bitcoin-cash-what-you-need-to-know-c25df28995cf

My guess is the trust will keep them for themselves. They know many who get into GBTC have limited options. I got it in my IRA because it is difficult to get BTC in one.

Hi I was just curious, is this asset traded on Bittrex?

Also what is the advantage to holding this asset over KMD?

I've been claiming free Bitcoin & I believe Bitcoin will reach $500,000 by 2030.

The market capital for all Cryptocurrencies rose from 6 billion in January to over 100 Billion in June. It's becoming more adopted by the mainstream year on year. As more interest comes along, there is a higher chance of cryptocurrencies reaching the 1 trillion mark in market capital. To newcomers, market capital is the total amount of USD/EURO and other currencies which are invested into Bitcoin & other Cryptocoins. Bitcoin tends to hold around half of this value but this could change.
...

Get your facts strait. At the beginning of the year, the crypto market was ~17 Billion not 6.
794  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Siacoin Epic Monster Moon on: July 23, 2017, 12:32:35 PM
1) I think Sia was hyped more than other coins and got a little ahead of itself too fast. Too much hype means to high of a price, where a slower natural growth would be preferred. Since Sia may end up being a blockchain storage protocol layer much attention is warranted, but too much can be a bad thing.

2) Since BTC is the primary coin traders use to obtain Sia and most other alts the BTC price often has an impact. Some of it is not just BTC, but the whole crypto market rose very fast in the spring and some consolidation should not surprise anyone. It my belief we are in the early life cycle of crypto currencies, and all this will look like a tiny bump in the road when the whole crypto market is valued at 3 - 5 trillion dollars 3 to five years from now. I think when the fear over BTC scaling is over (sometime in the fall) the crypto market will have another pump up.

- Who knows, but all this means in 3 - 5 years Sia may be valued over $.50, and maybe even $1.

Thank you for your very helpful answer, I think I understand how BTC is the coin used to trade, but I wonder why there are no exchangers that try to promote other ALTs (other than trading with Doge, Litecoin and Ethereum which even are low volume). Why not a Siacoin exchange by the devs, for example.

Anyway, I still am wondering what to do with all these alts. So afraid to go in on them when I see Siacoin's history.

Building an exchange is not what we want the devs to focus on. The price will take care of itself as long as the devs deliver the product. But coins such as Komodo are working on an coin-exchange swap ecosystem which may end up being the preferred way to trade in the future, we will see.

- Crypto is not for the faint of heart. It is extremely volatile with price swings of 10% almost daily, and sometimes 30%+ swings. I was afraid back in 2015 when I first got into bitcoin, after a few months the volatility doesn't bother you as much.

NEO is China's Eth
Nice, but don't forget that ICOs may lead to punishment by death in China.  Grin
Could anyone explain why the price started to rise now? What happened? Just another pump?

Well many other coins are pumping as well, so it is riding that up. ANS held up well during the market dump, so I was expecting a rise and picked up a few more coins 2 days ago. Now that BTC has a little more clarity and it pumped up, folks are leveraging some of that BTC into alts.
796  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][rICO]Antshares Blockchain Mainnet is ONLINE! on: July 22, 2017, 07:52:51 PM

The main point of the link:
As of now, most exchanges will not give you NEO gas if you put NEO on their platforms. After a discussion with the NEO team, we together decided to disrupt the status quo.

Binance is going to be the first international exchange to give you your NEO GAS!
797  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Sia - Decentralized Storage on: July 21, 2017, 08:48:48 PM

Hm, a 1TB hdd has an energy consumption of 5W. This would cost me around $1 per month to operate without any server infrastructure. Don’t think that it is that easy to achieve ROI...

As it gets bigger, Sia expects larger server storage farms would be the likely hosts. But some people have servers running 24/7 that have a few extra unused storage that they could leverage here.
798  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Siacoin Epic Monster Moon on: July 21, 2017, 06:04:49 PM
Can anyone explain two things:

1. Why did Siacoin crash harder than the other alts, even though there is a strong backing from people in the business?
2. How is it an alt will always depend on BTC to stay up or down? Why can't alts, especially like Siacoin hold their own ups and downs?

1) I think Sia was hyped more than other coins and got a little ahead of itself too fast. Too much hype means to high of a price, where a slower natural growth would be preferred. Since Sia may end up being a blockchain storage protocol layer much attention is warranted, but too much can be a bad thing.

Seems that I´ve missed the sale this time. I will remember to have always fresh FIAT ready for more KMD on the next big dip.

Yea, I got some on sale, but wish I got more. Anyway we are still down a bunch from the ATH of ~$2.47, yet the development team is cranking out improvements all the time.

hello

I really want to know why SIAcoin become too much famous DBG is better then SIA and most of other coin why people invest in SIA??

Any good reason ?

Thanks

DBG = Digital Bullion Gold are you sure you don't mean: DGB = Digibyte ?

Regardless, DBG tracks gold, and DGB is a gaming credit type coin. Both are in completely different spaces than Sia. Sia is a cloud storage coin focusing on secure private decentralized cloud storage. The cloud storage is a huge market, and if Sia can capture a chunk of it the price of Sia should skyrocket. Also the Sia Development team is second to none and very responsive.
