Riecoin is not a modified clone of primecoin. It is a direct fork of bitcoin and it has nothing to do with primecoin.

I stand corrected. Thanks for that, I'd completely missed that rather important difference.

Primecoins is a great idea, helping science, like curecoin.

Problem with it is the lack of cap of inflation...

Shame if these 2 great coins die.

Not to get too far off topic but there wasn't a lot of quark clones either, right? I can think of just frozen and offerings...

I hope primecoin will survive in the long term! We need more clone! Primecoin clone POS can be nice.

If we see it one day, ASIC for primecoin would be much more useful than asic for scrypt, X11, X13, or any other useless algo...

sorry but i cannot agree,

prime coin has broken some world records

that is cool however cunningham chains have few known applications or use outside of the study of number theory

i guess it is possible there would be a use for them in the future however that is not certain and the benefit to anyone

mankind, miners, ect... is really zero compared with almost any other proof of work used in a coin that discoveres nothing

I would suggest you check out riecoin, it is by far better designed than primecoin and a more likely to offer some small contribution of scientific value through it's proof of work,

Is there anything produced by Riecoin that Primecoin doesn't produce as output?

billotronic, Samoshi
If we logically assess the conclusion of a global crypto-currency, it seems to point to a one coin scenario. The vast majority of pundits are on the record stating BTC will be that coin. When we consider the potential problems and destructive effects of value with merged mining it is not unreasonable to assume the eventual demise of all the other altcoins. In fact, there are very few alt-coins exhibiting healthy charts and the number of dead and nearly dead crypto is growing. Still, you have some investors willing to take that chance, note the link below:
Primecoin [XPM] is being purchased here.

if you think the alt coin scene is dying and bitcoin is the only game in town you are not really paying attention,

prime coin was never intended for anything more than a short term 'wealth' creation scheme that i must admit even I was hoodwinked under

i don't have time to write papers, articles or convince other people of the reality around them

yoiu can follow me on twitter and pick up a few tid bits but few of my tweets are about coins

i run things honestly but I don't have time to give lessons to others sorry  Cheesy

Sunny King replied crypto_coiner who posted the followings on July 27, 2014 at chatroom of peercointalk.org:

"Thanks for your support of primecoin. I think it's fair to say that I designed primecoin not only as a breakthrough as scientific computing apparatus, but actually as a quality replacement of other more dominant PoW cryptocurrencies as they ignore the long term security challenges. Rebranding though is not necessary I think, at least the English name Primecoin does not really limited it to prime numbers, so I think the name is fine as it is. It may appear that primecoin has less development support at this point, but at least from my point of view primecoin would have my support. My current undertaking on sidechains, might even be tried on primecoin first, due to it's different properties. Although this shouldn't be taken as a promise. But in any case, if sidechains materialize primecoin would also have my support at some point."

"Hi crypto_coiner, long-term bitcoin security relies mainly on transaction fees. primecoin realistically would continue to have some subsidy long term, so less reliant on transaction fees for security. I am of the opinion that the PoW sector and PoS sector would coexist for a long time. Although recently primecoin was lackluster in the PoW market. There was no plan to combine the two currencies, they were designed as two separate networks, both with strong security. Peercoin is better as savings instrument, primecoin is better as transactional medium. Best Regards,"

Sunny King also talked Primecoin in the interview by Let's Talk Bitcoin: The Real Sunny http://letstalkbitcoin.com/blog/post/the-real-sunny

As previously stated, only Datacoin is a clone of XPM. Riecoin is it's own algo, with some similarities in XPM, but totally a different algo.
