Indeed I've been lurking quite a bit on bitcointalk only to find out I couldn't post without confirming that indeed I'm not some ludicrous spambot that is attempting to ruin the internet by increasing the already low signal to noise ratio of most forums. I even created a login only to find out that I must post a little bit on this newbie forum first. Eventually I hope to be recognized as a legitimate human or cat capable of contributing to the lulz and memes of bitcoin history and perhaps maybe actually sharing thoughts that provoke intelligent debate and discussion. We will have to see.

I'd really like to get access to the forum, but this system has it restricted.  This is mildly annoying.  I understand a need to block out spambots, but it seems like there have to be better ways, especially considering that people don't seem to really put into practice anything to distinguish them from spambots.  Most people have an initial post consisting of a variant of one of three or so messages.  This means that a spambot can easily emulate it.  Likewise, there is no reason to believe that a four-hour wait time would bother a spambot.  To a spambot time does not matter, there is no particular distinction between waiting four days and waiting 3 seconds to a spambot.  But to a person who wishes to fulfill a bounty or something this is a rather significant disadvantage.

Decent captchas work fairly well for a lot of things.  The type of message would be a much better filter than simply its presence.

But, the overall point is that there has to be a better way.

It's not unusual for a forum to have these kind of rules for newbies. It can be frustrating but I don't think this one is extreme. Just look around and find posts in the correct section that you want to respond to. There's interesting stuff in the newb section too.

I'm totally cool with not posting immediately - I guess because I realise I have a lot to learn before anything I say is likely to be new or interesting to those who have been around here for long

So far I've setup cgminer but moved rapidly from that to cudaminer as I have a Nvidia graphics card. Pooling at ozcoin. (I think that's the lingo lol)
Only the one workstation, but it runs 24/7 so can just as well be doing something.

I trade foreign exchange so am up all crazy hours for a NZer.

Whats amazing is how diverse the strutures are, not only have you got lots of mining programmes there are also multiple pools, and now there is multiple coins. I;m coming at these currencies more from a financial perspective than a technical one. But within finance I prefer technical (cf fundamental) analysis.

Good Mining May your hashrates be high.

OK, so here am I, making a dummy post, so that I am allowed to post in the real topics.

I have been reading these threads for weeks, but read-only mode
was perfect for me, until right now.

Now that I have something important to say, suddently I look up my account (do a pw reset), log in, ... and realize that I can't post!

That's annoying. So, white-listing, pretty please?

Yeap, that was a discovery for me too... I thought it would be OK to reply to some threads but it wasn't.

I am particularly interested in the threads about new crypto-currencies and development programs.

With almost all the cryptos being open-source and most exchanges having an API it is a truly great time to code a bit.

I recommend you all to browse around and go beyond BitCoin and LiteCoin. There is a world to discover!

All the best,
Juan.

Yup me too..

So how many posts do i have to write before i get allowed to post in the main section?

I feel like the new boy at school *cries*

Anyways since i am restricted, anyone giving altcoins away? there was a huge dogecoins giveaway but i couldn't post my address (How unfortunate) and i missed it..

Anyways if you're giving away any sort of coins let me know and ill download the wallet and recieve some.

If not, i'll just keep posting here till am allowed to post in the big sections..

Oh yeah just asking - which coins do you think will take off really well in the future?

Im talking coins under 1 dollar.

And by the way where did Mastercoin come from?? It wasn't even on crypto last month-- now its worth $150???

It's totally understandable. I've been a lurker for some time now, and definitely decided to register because I can contribute to whole community with my skills and will to spread the good word about crypto currencies.

DogeCoin, NextCoin and eMunie are the main reasons that i got interested in altcurrencies.

Keep up the good work!
