Newbie Restrictions
You can only post in the Newbie and Local sub-forums till you have made one post and waited 4 hours. This post must be substantial: at least several sentences. The other two restrictions are you need 1 post to be able to send a PM and 10 posts to put a link in your sig.  You can only post once every 360 seconds to start and there are a few other things that trigger this timer such as logging in and searching.

Seems pretty straightforward and I agree with the reasoning.

Personally I would much prefer the restrictions currently in place on new posts.
Otherwise the forums here would turn into a mass of spam from advertisers trying to sell everything from shaving cram to viagra.
A quick look at other less well policed forums makes the minor restrictions here well worth the short wait.

Add to the communcity, more posts inside the newbie sub-forum and you must be online for 4 hours. Than you will ber able to send pms and reply in topics outside the newbie forum.

I found that if you create your own thread and get a ton of replies, then you rank up faster.

It's quite effective to block both sockpuppet accounts as well as spam bots. The 20 hour delay also makes people rethink why they need to post and go google their issue instead. I've seen a lot of anti spam/troll/newbie systems and this seems like a good compromise.

bitcoin should look into getting Authly or Google Authenticator! (this is what most exchanges use)
