Grantcoin Foundation Shifts Fundraising Strategy, Begins Outreach to CharitiesPosted on August 19, 2015 by The Grantcoin Foundation http://www.grantcoin.org/2015/08/19/grantcoin-foundation-shifts-fundraising-strategy-begins-outreach-to-charities/The Grantcoin Foundation, a legally incorporated nonprofit organization, has decided to stop selling reserves of Grantcoin on exchanges and will instead pursue grant funding from philanthropists and charitable foundations to fund our activities. We will also begin seeking donations from people who wish to use Grantcoin as a convenient way to make micro-donations to charities through Twitter using our Twitter wallet app. Donors will be able receive a pre-loaded USB card with software, Grantcoin currency, instructions and tech support, and Grantcoin branded merchandise as thank-you gifts for their contribution to the Grantcoin Foundation. All Grantcoin that is given to donors will be purchased in advance by the Foundation on exchanges, rather than by distributing new Grantcoin into circulation. The Grantcoin Foundation has also begun reaching out and establishing relationships with charities and nonprofits that are interested to use Grantcoin as a way to raise money on social media. Over the next few weeks, we will start making announcements about some of these relationships, and a new website will be launched to provide buzz for charities that accept Grantcoin. “Exciting times are ahead for Grantcoin,” said Eric Stetson, Executive Director of the Grantcoin Foundation. “Our team has been doing a lot of work under the radar to get ready for a new phase in the development of this project, which we believe will propel Grantcoin to become one of the most widely used digital currencies.” The Grantcoin Foundation invites everyone interested to closely follow our website, Twitter feed, and Facebook page for new announcements during the next month. This is great, I wish you guys the best of success with this.

There are several different types of Bitcoin clients. The most secure are full nodes like Bitcoin Core, but full nodes are more resource-heavy, and they must do a lengthy initial syncing process. As a result, lightweight clients with somewhat less security are commonly used.

Is there a whitepaper somewhere? I am very interested how the proof-of-participant concept is designed.
There's a whitepaper on our website, grantcoin.org. The essence of the proof-of-participation concept as we envision it is to give a financial incentive in the form of Grantcoin to businesses to accept the currency. The incentive will be in the form of Grantcoin coupons to be passed on to the customer. So if the customer pays in Grantcoin, then they get 10% off or something like that. The discount is funded by the Grantcoin Foundation. So it's a way to incentivize businesses to accept the currency as a payment option, and to incentivize customers to pay with it. Having said that, Grantcoin is in the process of going through a transition in strategy. We've recently decided to focus first on gaining users of Grantcoin in the charity sector. Once there are a lot of people using it as a way to give to charities on social media, then we will begin our outreach to businesses, because businesses will be more likely to accept the currency if there are already plenty of users. We think charities will be more willing to accept it at the beginning, because charities can receive donations of Grantcoin on Twitter without having to do anything. With businesses, there is the added requirement that the business implement a plugin to accept cryptocurrency in their e-commerce platform. So the charities may find it easier to embrace Grantcoin, and are therefore the first audience we will promote it to; then the businesses will come next. The emphasis of the way we pitch Grantcoin will also be changed somewhat to reflect the focus on acquiring users in the charity sector. Significant marketing will be invested into reaching out to charities with our targeted pitch. Fortunately, Grantcoin has always had a focus on the philosophy of social and environmental responsibility, which fits well with a huge number of charities.

The developers are still active and the Grantcoin Foundation nonprofit organization is still moving forward with its plans. Our team is continuing to work on making this coin a long-term success. In the near-term, there will be some significant announcements coming in the next few weeks.

What is the current block reward of this cryptocurrency? BTW, is there a similarity between POW and Proof-of-Participation? I noticed the algorithm at supernova.cc and it is mentioned SHA-256d. So, is it mineable with my spare Antminer S3+ ?

Current block reward is 100 but only for a few more days. Yes, you can mine with S3+. EDIT: Reduced to 50 at block 200,000

Now is probably a good time. Someone just dumped a bunch. thanks, bought a few from your suggestion, hope it could still be higher at price The block reward just halved. I think there will be a slight dip in the price as there will probably be miners dumping their coins. Once that is over I think the price will recover and possibly be slightly higher as the mining cost will be higher. Then with the pending news from the foundation there could be another bump in price which hopefully holds steady. That is just me speculating. I'm no financial advisor YMMV

Can you please describe the issue in more detail? What file is missing? What operating system is your computer using? This is the first time we've heard of this issue, so we need all the info we can get to look into it and try to find the cause. Thanks!
