We are at a place that would've been pretty hard to wrap your head around in 2011. Things have happened that would've had you laughed off this forum had they been suggested at the time yet there's still a healthy amount of scepticism and doom.
With that in mind, what element would need to fall into place to finally wipe any doubts you might have about Bitcoin having a permanent and growing place in the world?
Would it be mining related with any dangers of forks/ 51% attacks/ waning incentives etc removed?
Would it take a particular piece of legislation or acceptance?
People still squeal about gold but it's not going anywhere. What would it need for you to feel the same way about BTC?

I just want to be able to spend it so for me to be assured I would need to be able to walk down the high street or mall and be able to spend it in many shops. Doesn't have to be all of them but if they can accept credit cards which 99% seem to do then they can also accept bitcoin.

I think that bitcoin is(or will be) the future if people start to changer their actual mind about this stupid economic situation (based on banks system). If they will start to think that there is something better and mroe secure, I am sure btc will be a valid/useful alternative but it will never replace (at all) the FIAT system. PS: remember that everyone has the right to issue his own money, this is the important thing.

Simple answer really, I suppose when you can pay using bitcoin in most places. At the moment the % of shops, businesses that accept bitcoin must be miniscule. We're going on the right track as there are licenses, regulations & approvals happening & in the pipeline as we speak. It's like anything new & pioneering, it takes time to get implemented.
People don't like change but with bitcoin it's only a matter of time until we have complete, widespread adoption. The technology & currency is just too useful to be discarded. Fast forward 10-15 years & bitcoin will be as common & well known as paypal is now.

BTC's future is already assured as there are enough idealogues like myself that aren't going to give up on it. We will force it to adapt and grow if need be. Satoshi pointed us to the future and we are going to follow this project through.

Last I heard, around 1 million people on earth uses bitcoin out of the total population of around 10 billion. I would say it is a nice progress within 7 years. Another price bubble will probably rope in 10 million or so...

Tricky question because we can say for certain USD wont have a future yet that is current more established. Perhaps only a few more years once you can use it just like any other payment system.

1) Once we have clear and stable regulations in all/most of the 'civilised' countries. 2) After successful fork increasing max block size, or other solution is implemented, so we know Bitcoin is ready for mass adoption (whether it happens or not) and will not require any hardfork changes in foreseeable future (future-proof). 2) When we know that all the major BTC businesses (exchanges, payment processors, mining farms) have working business models and can survive on generated profits rather than being addicted to JV funding. ^ that's just from the top of my head, there's probably more than that.

It's either freely tradable (free market) or fixed price. Pick one. You can't have both.

Gold's history in finance spans several thousand years and it still can't pull that off. The only way that might be conceivable is if it's adopted by every single country on Earth and they discard everything else. Until then there'll always be a bit of action even if it becomes more sluggish the bigger it becomes.

well a thing like this need a huge marketcap first, not a tiny one like we have now, then you need plenty if not basically everyone using bitcoin stable price/bigger market cap/adoption, they are all tied together, and they are the three keys to to make bitcoin established

I would say it's already assured, since we got billonaires invested. What im looking forward to ise to see how the blocksize limit controversy turns out, since it seems a pretty big deal due lack of consensus. It should turn out ok, we've been through heavier shit.

when i can pay in my local supermarket ... lol, not a bad idea nah, seriously, i think that our main problem is about what ppl have in mind, most of that ppl still beleive in those corrupt bank systems, all of them corrupted, thats the key, to show ppl that here is a real alternative that can work, not to replace the entire economic system 100% but maybe coexist.

1. buying bitcoin needs to be much easier than it is now. 2. we must be able to pay in retail stores around the world in every sort of store. 3. banks and law must change their unfriendly policy towards bitcoin. 4. getting rid of current exchanges and only use something like a stock exchange with the same security etc.

I think 1 and 4 are probably the most important right now. Once they've been dealt with the other two will eventually flow. It consistently blows my mind that it's gotten as far as it has with the historic exchange situation.

Forget about replacing banks and current economy system with bitcoin financial tech. That won't happen in our lifetime and I doubt - even in 100 years. This system is too big, bloated and well established. We need to start small. For me future of bitcoin will be assured when I will know that my coins over night won't lose 1/3 of their value. For now it is too volatile.
