Still, while he is waiting he could do a revenue sharing agreement where someone else builds the website and they share the income.

This is like letting a nice house sit vacant while trying to sell it, instead of having renters in there.   Undecided

Some people are rich enough that they do as they please. Maybe he doesn't want this domain to be used and he is rich enough or doesn't care about the money he can gain from it.

That's weird, there was a website on there for the longest time.

Apparently Blockchain owns it http://blogs.wsj.com/moneybeat/2014/04/17/blockchain-buys-bitcoin-com-domain-name/ weird they do nothing with it

Edit: they merely leased it for 5 years from whoever orig owns it, I assume Roger Ver.

Maybe he would consider redirecting it to bitcoin.org while the domain is not in use?

That would seem to be more beneficial to the currency than a dead domain.

I guess he just wait the right time to use it, or just want to sell someone who need it with a good price.

Whats the sense to buy that domain and dont use it?, just waiting to made some real&huge profit with it in a near future? dunno.

agree with you 100%, if he love this community and the BTC world he should do something about it,also doing something with it is like helping to himselft ( if his purpose is to sold it later ) so i cant understand why the domain is not used atm.

IMHO #1.b of suspects, Hal Finney is/was S.N.

it was originally bought simply to preserve the bitcoin community and to stop scammers buying up the name and placing fake information on it or trying to extort the community.

imagine if the bank of england/bank of america bought it instead of a bitcoin community member.. imagine the propaganda the banks would write on the website to talk people out of investing in bitcoin. highlighting things like volatility and darkweb usage, etc.

im glad the majority of main bitcoin branding is in the hands of the community members

I DO NOT TRADE OR ACT AS ESCROW ON THIS FORUM EVER.
Please do your own research & respect what is written here as both opinion & information gleaned from experience. many people replying with insults but no on-topic content substance, automatically are 'facepalmed' and yawned at

Has he bought all the other similar names like bitcoin.org and bitcoin.co.[insert country here]? There are surprisingly few misinformation sites at the top of the search results for those sorts of names, so they must be in safe hands.

If Amazon, the final frontier, ever accepts BTC and converts 0% of it to fiat (instead, paying BTC to all who previously got paid fiat), I'd probably point bitcoin.com there (or have a geo redirect so if you're in the UK you get sent from bitcoin.com to amazon.co.uk instead of amazon.com - unless amazon.com itself already redirects like that).

Saying that you don't trust someone because of their behavior is completely valid.

bitcoin.com is not necessary to use it, why we need to use that domain when everything working perfect as we are growing as nice community, i dont think that domain can help to skyrocket the growth so discussion about this is just feed the trolls.

The latest snapshot is from April 8th.

Do you have any sources where I can read on this ? Bad thing about it is that the domain is sitting like a useless domain there and if he decided to sell it , the price will be very high . Anyway the domain of btc.com is in the hand of the liar Josh Garza that claimed to purchase it over 1 million USD

The first thing that came to my mind is how much money the guy would have made if he decided to monetize the site. I mean, the list are endless like marketplace, trading site, exchanger or even a wiki page with ads on it. But never mind, at least I'm glad that it didn't fall into the hands of a person who would misuse it.
