Transactions don't work? (Mac OS X)

Your transaction is not listed on http://bitcoincharts.com/bitcoin/. This means that your client has not broadcasted it onto the network yet.

I'm using Bitcoin 0.3.21-beta on Mac OS 10.6.7. I have 2 wallets. One is my "savings-wallet" and the other my "current-wallet". Depending on what account I want to use I replace the wallet.dat file before I start the Bitcoin application.

On 29.5.11 18:11 (UTC+1) I sent a transaction of 5.00 BTC without a transaction fee (debit shows -5.00 in the Bitcoin application) from my current account from the address: 1PqYze7YmxivhKkKkCR8FznF6RBfy64nDK

The transaction of 5.00 BTC never showed up, till today after almost a week!

The Transaction seems to have been processed in block 127692 (2011-05-30 19:54:48):

According to rules I don't yet understand it has been split up into 3 seperate transactions: 3.07 + 0.47 + 1.47 = 5.01 BTC

As far as I understand block 127692 has been processed by 1NY6SY67qxZ7X75M1pL2v8qLRGn25unV8Z and this address has received 0.01 BTC from me. So I don't understand why in my current wallet it shows me only a debit of -5.00 BTC when in fact I had to pay 5.01 BTC?
I have NOT YET SET the bitcoin application to pay a transaction fee. Yes, I agree it's a good thing to pay the fee in the future I will of course do that as someone has to work to make a transaction happening...

In my current wallet the transaction with -5.00 BTC shows 883 confirmations at the moment.


Because the above mentioned transaction didn't work till today, I sent for testing purposes another 0.10 BTC from my current wallet from the address: 1PqYze7YmxivhKkKkCR8FznF6RBfy64nDK

to my savings wallet: 1DweYrezjeSe4RxvC2RBUwe32GJDTr61im. This transaction worked and I received it in my savings wallet. Including the 0.01 BTC transaction fee the debit on my current wallet shows -0.11 BTC. As you can see here:

I have the Port 8333 open and 46 connections and I have downloaded from scratch some minutes ago 128577 blocks.

Kyoo, this is news to me too, but after looking on the Bitcoin transaction fees page on the wiki, I found out that there are some default fee rules built into the client. One of them is this:

0.01 BTC fee per kilobyte of transaction, but:

• If the blocksize (size of all transactions currently waiting to be included in a block) is less than 27 kB, transactions are free.
• If the blocksize is more than 250 kB, transactions get increasingly more expensive as the blocksize approaches the limit of 500 kB. Sending a transaction when the blocksize is 400 kB will cost 5 times the normal amount; sending when it's 499 kB will cost 500x, etc.

That seems like it explains what happened to you, though I am not sure (I have no idea what the state of those two conditions listed are). However it is most likely some sort of default rule in the bitcoin client. To stop these fees, the wiki recommends the free transaction relay policy, but as you can see not many miners are participating.

sammoocow, thanks for your input! My concern is not about having to pay a fee, more about why the client didn't ask me to put a fee/forced me to put a fee while sending the transaction request or what else the reason is, that the transaction of my 5.00 BTC got lost/doesn't arrive in my other wallet.

I'm confused. Don't the default fee rules I posted explain why you were forced to pay a fee?

As for why it took so long to transfer, I have no idea.
