I've told all my friends, and they've seen me take profits, are interested, but none has taken the plunge... I really don't know why, i guess they want to stay poor.

No one that want to stay poor  Grin, and imo the purpose why we using bitcoin is not to become rich immediately, but it is used to do fast transaction and profitable investment. Just be patient, and I think you will get a right moment to get them into bitcoin. Anyway, you have tried to develop bitcoin in your country Smiley

I could not bring myself to recommend bitcoin to anyone who I like whether that be family or friends, there is to much risk involved and easily broke friendships over money. I have posted things about bitcoin here and there so the ones that are curious will surly look into it without me pushing them to. Hopefully in time people will be trying to recommend it to me then we know we are heading in the right direction when we start seeing it come out of our friends mouths and on their profiles.

I think the OP asks a very interesting question, and the answers are very telling.

It seems the majority of those answering this impromptu survey shows that bitcoin has a long way to go for general acceptance.

From my experience in trying to explain and show the benefits to friends and family, it's very challenging!
Plus the fact that bitcoin has a criminal association makes it that much harder for anyone I talk to, to take this revolutionary concept seriously. I have talked to dozens of people regarding bitcoin and litecoin too. Unless they are extremely computer savvy, or have  anarchistic anti establishment attitude, or they are outside of mainstream society... they just don't seem to "get it."

The one thing I think that would be most helpful, to continue encouraging new adoption, is to get people to use it!
I first used bitcoin after using a btc faucet... Just thought it was so cool the first time, and I'm still awed using btc everyone I send or receive a payment.

I am thinking of creating a simple, easy to use faucet, just for my friends and family... So once and for all they can experience what it's like to play with bitcoin. ☺

At least 10 of my friends are already using Bitcoin. We are constantly talking about cryptocurrency. We are interested in this topic.
But there are friends who refuse to enter into the world of crypto currency. They say it's a waste of time.
When I first spoke about Bitcoin, and trade exchanges with me laughed. But when I began to earn his first bucks while many have become interested in what was happening.

i have brought two of my friends in bitcoin world and introduced everything for them so far.
the first one was long time ago and i did that buy giving him some bitcoin and putting up a wallet for him. and the second one which was recently was one of my friends that became interested in trading and i introduced him to the markets and how to set up a bitcoin wallet and get started.

....trying to explain and show the benefits to friends and family, it's very challenging!

unfortunately this is true Sad

Weak hands have been complaining about missing out ever since bitcoin was $1 and never buy the dip.
Whales are those who keep buying the dip.

Well. I have similar experiences with people. They don't trust cryptocurrency at all. 99% of people I talked about bitcoin was skeptical about it. Not only they did not accept my explanations, they refused to think that this technology changes future. It kinda reminded me of people 15 years ago when I talked about internet... same thing, people needs to grow up.

I recommended bitcoin to a lot of people, not just my friends. at least 10-15 of my friends are using bitcoin. I know at least 3 of them have a bitcointalk account, but they don't know I have one so we've never interacted here.

Yes I told them about the bitcoins. The first question they asked me is "What the hell it is?" So how can I recommend them about something which they really don't know? So I gave them some basic explanations about the bitcoin but they didn't show any interest in it which was really painful.

Lol..  Grin  Grin  Grin

I think first of all you should suggest them to watch the video on youtube "Rise and Rise of Bitcoin" and after that if they understand what bitcoin is all about they will show interest in it and if you just give them verbal information that wont help

Long wanted to see this video but there is no translation for my country. If I watch the original, I do not understand a lot of things.
Unfortunately the voice acting make the film is expensive.

I think it is available in english and I don't know which country you belong to but its a must watch video that is for sure. Talking about my friends they view it as an risky affair as they are not aware about it so they don't want to get involved into it or rather i can say they don't want to experiment with their investments.

I haven't been recommending as it was in a steady decline in prices and I am glad I didn't otherwise they would've been angry at me now. Around 4-5 friends are aware that I have Bitcoin and they call it "fool's gold".

LOL.. Recommending and accepting it are two different sides of a coin. Even if didn't work for them they cannot blame you as accepting it or not it is totally individual's decision our job is just to create an awareness level to the people whom we know as it would be profitable for all of us if the adoption level is high.

That is a great news for bitcoin community. We need to increase the community by creating awareness level in the people around us as more and more people start adopting it the value of bitcoin will go higher and one day the value would be much more stable so that people will start having faith in bitcoin if the prices are stable.

Spoken to a few friends about Bitcoin. I wouldn't say I "recommended" it to them so to speak, but the subject came up in conversation.

Two of  the people I spoke to about Bitcoin had already heard about it and knew more about it already, they were also aware of the other altcoins, for example he mentioned one called "Max Coin" which I'd never heard of to be totally honest. It was actually my friend that bought up the subject of bitcoin to start with. Needless to say we've had a few deep conversations since then.
