according to coindesk TAR, a Mexican Airline, started accepting bitcoin as payment.

http://www.coindesk.com/mexico-tar-latin-america-airline-bitcoin/

"In a statement, Jose Calzadias, commercial manager at TAR, said that the company, which serves 12 destinations throughout Mexico, would continue to evaluate payment options that give "real added value" to customers."

apparently there is another Latvian airline that started accepting bitcoin from July last year.

what do you think the effect of this is on bitcoin?

This is definitely positive, but only a small step. Most people who use those airlines won't know about it. Won't look into what bitcoin is even if they see the payment option either. And mainstream news won't cover this. I don't expect bitcoin price to be affected either. But little by little it always helps.

I still think we need more accessible ways to safely store bitcoin and easily use it.

If it is faster to grab a creditcard than to use your bitcoin wallet, hardly anybody will use it.

Nevertheless, every company accepting bitcoin is one more that spreads te logo!

this is always nice, I think any kind of mass usage of bitcoin a good popularity to it.

but the important thing is, how many people are going to use it in a Mexican airline

if the extra option is just there but no one ever uses it, I think it is useless!

This is a small step in the right direction.  What if big airlines started doing this?  Guys like American Airlines or Lufthansa?  It is great to see this at airports because of international traffic.  That means that not only will local people be exposed to the possibility of using bitcoins, but also people from around the globe who are flying through that airport.

That's great. It's a big step of making BTC more popular to people especially in our country. If big airlines do that like my above poster said , some of airlines from other country will definitely consider to use BTC as a payment. And if that happens , all flight here in our country including "DOMESTIC" flight will use the same method. As of now we use BTC here as payment for prepaid loads, bills etc. If airlines will do then that's more great. Hope to see it in my country 5years or less from now.

Companies like Expedia and CheapAir.com are accepting BTC too, now they could use their BTC for B2B payments to TAR and AirBaltic

I don't know if I have ever booked a flight on the website of an airline, but maybe I'll try it now that they have a BTC payment option.

thanks for the info i've been looking for airline site that accepted bitcoin for their payment,i have a plan traveling with a flight in this month Cheesy and bitcoin its a best solution for payment

Richard Branson is a well known advocator of bitcoin & as everybody is aware runs one of the worlds most successful airlines.
I'm surprised he hasn't integrated bitcoin into his payment methods for flights yet, I presume he will at some point, I hope so any way, that'd be bullish.
Come on Richie you know it makes sense.

He may like Bitcoin personally but still he must think like a business person.
He is certainly aware that the vast majority of his users do not use bitcoin and also he probably see some shortcomings of BTC like unstable value in the market.
Nobody wants to lose money in business and intelligence always comes before feelings.
It's great that some small airlines companies accept Bitcoin but we are still far from full acceptance of BTC.

it is positive, and how to make more airline accept bitcoin is what we should consider, if it does work, the number of airlines which refuse bitcoin will have less reasons to unuse it.

Talk about a perfect escape, huh? Cheesy

Bitcoin really is perfect for that kind of thing though in all seriousness, can put it on a USB or somewhere safe on the internet while you travel, leave the country and open a bank account somewhere else where the country you left can't freeze it.

Which is exactly what I'll be doing when I have the money to.

you can tattoo your public key on your forearm to keep your address with you forever. and you can upload your encrypted wallet file on the cloud or something to have access to it everyewhere. Smiley

but are you planning to run away and be a fugitive that what this, where do you live, if i may ask?

Weak hands have been complaining about missing out ever since bitcoin was $1 and never buy the dip.
Whales are those who keep buying the dip.
