If I was in a position to be one of them, I would most certainly not link any of my bitcoin addresses. I would have 1000's of paper wallets with small amounts.

You do not need that type of attention or spotlight on you, if you were loaded with coins.

I had access to a Bitcoin vending machine a while ago, and I bought coins and used seperate paper wallets. {There was NO personal information required to buy it, so I bought a few and I split it up}

Those paper wallets {BIP-38 protected} cannot be traced back to me. {Never been online} and single transactions. {No cross links}

If these guys has done the same, they would stay anonymous, until they use it.

Obviously Satoshi, Gavin Andreesen, Roger Ver, Dustin Trammel, probably Mark Karpeles too after he stole all those coins from Mt.Gox.

Can anyone add to the list?

you forgot the twins, last time i checked they were around 100k, dunno if they dumped something in the 1200 peak(probably many rich holders dumped there) or if they have more now

At one time, the FBI held the distinction for single largest holding of bitcoin after the SilkRoad raid.  But I think they've auctioned them off since then.

Tim Draper bought a big chunk of the bitcoins that were seized and auctioned off.

Nope. Forbes can't list Satoshi as a billionaire, even if the exchange rate climbs to $5,000 per coin. Right now it is not sure whether "Satoshi" is a single individual, or a group of individuals. Also, it is not known for sure whether he is having access (i.e possessing the private key) to his Bitcoin stash. First of all, it is not even known whether he is dead or alive.

I love Switzerland. When you have your money in a bank there, unlike BTC, there's little risk that some dirty guy will be able to find out how much you have. Regarding BTC, even though I don't have many, I have 6 different wallets. I've never liked people lurking.

Satoshi's coins are probably distributed to many addresses and not just pooled in only one address. There is an assumption that he holds over 1 million coins because during the early days, he was the sole miner in the network.


As for the OP, there isn't even a single correlation to an address with any personal information of people. You will only know that this person holds X amount of coins only if that person decides to put his/her address together with his/her personal identity (e.g. the profile on bitcointalk where in you can place your address together with your profile.)

It's impossible to know who owns who. There are probably pretty anonymous millionaires out there that were doing the right thing at the right time and bought a couple hundred thousands for a couple dollars in the very early days and are right now retired in some flashy island. Is quite annoying not being one of those people.

You should remember that it was extremely difficult in 2009 and 2010 to purchase Bitcoins. The easiest option was barter, just like Jarcos, who got BTC10,000 in exchange for two Papa John's pizzas from Laszlo Hanyecz (in 2010). Only in the mid-2011 it became somewhat easier to purchase the coins. But by that time, the exchange rate was already around 1BTC = $10.

I hate to ruin all the fun but none of us really knows who has what. The balances at various addresses are facts, who owns them is nothing more than a guess.

thats the problem with the top 100 addresses most of those address have been lost well i would stay about 60% of those have been lost or belong to a exchange

Was not Risto trying to make a list of biggest Bitcoin holders. It is somewhere on this forum.But eventually he gave up since realized is way from reality. No one will just admit yes i have this much BTC.

No. I wish I was on that list and I'd go around telling everyone I was if I was.
That's like a badge of honor. Anyway, maybe one day never I'll get on that list. Or if I with the lottery.

Right now the only source for finding out the Bitcoin HNW and UHNW individuals may be rpietila's thread (not updated since April 2014, it seems):

I know it is not very accurate, but right now it is the only source which I can find here in Bitcointalk.
