wtf Huh  they were raising money to get their dad a fathers day gift.
But on the plus side local businesses donated money and freebies to them

It is good to hear that the local businesses have helped them. But still the double-speak by the politicians and the cops is nauseating. When two little girls wanted to sell organic food products, they are having problem with the safety of the food. But when big corporations such as KFC and McDonald's sell food products, which are full of toxins and chemicals, they don't care.

They are hypocrites. We've seen a lot of different cases with this. One will easily encounter people selling random food on the streets when travelling somewhere. I hardly doubt that anyone would have been harmed from the lemonade, especially if you consider what the food that you've listen does to people.

You can't entirely blame the neighbor either (although he is at fault). The cops could have just ignored the phone call but instead they went to the reported place.

KFC and McDonald's products are subject to the same laws. Intentionally misrepresenting facts doesn't solve problems.

they can't ignore such calls, or they might face legal consequences.

the neighbor is the dick of the history, together with the politics that made such situation possible to happen

These stories have been going on for decades now, just another fluff piece by a lazy journalist that has nothing better to report on.

Hopefully they weren't accepting bitcoin or the US marshalls might have to get involved.    They will be sentenced to hard time in a federal penitentiary for being some sort of "money transmitter".

Wait a minute, you might be right. Aren't all calls in the USA to public services being recorded or something? I remember someone telling me something about this a while back.

Exactly. If the local cops ignore the call, then the complainant might go directly to the superiors. And in the end the ordinary cops will suffer, as they will be charged with not carrying out their duty. The identity of the person who made the call is still not known, but according to the social media, it is someone in his / hers 60s. Probably unmarried and hating children.

Police in Overton, Texas put the brakes on an illegal lemonade stand run by two little miscreants...sure is good to see my tax dollars at work and I'll sleep better tonight knowing the streets of Overton are safer now. What a crock...

Quote
Police in Texas shut down a lemonade stand run by two little girls. They said it was illegal.

Andria and Zoey Green told ABC affiliate KLTV they were trying to raise about $100 for a Father's Day present. They wanted to take him to Splash Kingdom.

They had been selling lemonade and kettle corn for an hour - and made about $25 - when officers showed up and told them they need a $150 permit to sell their lemonade.

Texas House Bill 970, or the Texas Baker's Bill, does not allow the sale of food that needs time or temperature control to prevent it from spoiling. Since lemonade needs to be refrigerated to prevent bacteria growth, police said they needed an inspection from the health department and a permit to sell it.

"It is a lemonade stand, but they also have a permit that they are required to get," Overton Police Chief Clyde Carter said.

"I think that's ridiculous. I think they're 7 and 8, and they're just trying to make money for their own cause," said Sandi Evans, the girls' mother.

Ridiculous or not, Overton police said it's the law and they'll keep enforcing it.

"We have to follow by the state health guidelines," said Carter. "They have to have a permit if they're going to do the lemonade stands."

The sisters plan to try again this weekend. Instead of selling their lemonade, they'll give it away for free and accept donations.

Seems like the law's got a point. But I would love the taste of cold refreshing lemonade on a hot texan afternoon.

So what's next now? Banning children from playing in neighbourhood? Or arresting children for crying? It seems Police in Texas have stopped crime completely, that's why they are now enforcing laws on children for keeping themselves getting paid.

The laws in a couple places are so messed up. Their are laws which can get you arrested if you bath 2 babies together (California). There is a law where you can't cut your grass on specific days. Laws sound like religion to me now.

Just another incident to prove how brave and courageous these police officers are in the United States.  Grin But still, In this case I believe that the police officers were merely following the orders which they received from their superiors. In my honest opinion, the state of Texas does not need $150 in license fee from these two little girls, to make the ends meet. Tax the adults as much as you want, but please leave the children alone.

I agree, if the state law is such then the officers really had no choice. They shouldn't be taxing children, because what I don't understand is how are tax laws applicable towards children who can barely cross the street on their own? How would they possibly know of these laws? All they wanted to do was make some money in order to make their father happy!

The law doesn't apply anyway since lemonade is not a time/temperature sensitive item.

And meanwhile, in Ohio...

Quote
An Ohio sheriff's deputy is being praised by the community for going above and beyond the call of duty to help a little girl at a lemonade stand.

On Tuesday, Deputy Zach Ropos was on duty when he came across a girl named Gabrielle operating a lemonade stand. Gabrielle's family had been facing financial difficulties, and the girl had been saving up money from the stand in hopes of buying an iPad to use for schoolwork and games.

But instead of just paying for a lemonade, the deputy decided he wanted to help Gabrielle achieve her goal. Ropos was going to give Gabrielle an older iPad he had at home, but when he found out that it no longer worked, he decided to buy a brand new one for her instead.

Ropos' gift became even more valuable when he learned that Gabrielle had offered to give up the money she earned from her lemonade stand to buy gas for her mom's car.

I am sure he was quickly reprimanded and suspended without pay.

Yes, it is absurd. But such incidents do happen, when you live under the police state. That said, most of my anger is directed towards the lowlife scum, who informed the police that "illegal" lemonade sales are going on in the neighborhood. Some say that it was their neighbor, but we don't know for sure, as the cops are refusing to reveal the identity of the informer.

What if any stranger came and mix something unwanted and unhygienic things add into that lemonade as disguise to help those little girls, which may sometimes cause food poison to the consumers and also those lemonade are not tested in Lab according to the rules and regulations.

What if you were free  to make choices where you spent your money, and be obsessive compulsive about things that "might happen" at practically any food retailer on the planet?

Don't know whether to laugh or cry. But I'm sure Texas or US is not the only place where this kind of situation happens, is sad that some people, in stead of using their brain and common sense are blindly following orders.

This is not the first time, that a children’s lemonade stand has been shut down.
You can find more cases of this government overreach. Angry
We need to stand up for this normal childhood activity that many parents have been participating in for ages. Smiley
