Hello, you can bet when you like it, but betting will be closed every 3 hours and you can bet up to 40 minutes before the result,
Maximum: 0.01 BTC - Minimum: 0.0006 BTC
only the data from openweathermap.org is counted, because it offer more than 40 000 individual weather station run by users

for example:

Result in ~40 minutes

or

bet closing in 2 hours and 30 minutes
Result in ~ 3 hours and 10 minutes

OP reduce the round time to make it more interesting as i think 3 hours +40 minutes is so long waiting period so that if you remove the round time and put only 40 minutes waiting time for bet result that would be more interesting, round time making it weird because everybody picking their favorite city for bet not to bet on a single city.

Thank you for the feedback but at the moment is not possible to reduce the 3 hours and 40 minutes because of actual API service, maybe in the future when we have more funds we will reduce the 3 hours time

When I looked,it showed a slightly temperature difference. I'm not blind so I'm writing the truth. Maybe the site is updated at a time interval and the API is faster??

Just realized the way the bets are verified isn't right. This site uses https://openweathermap.org/ for it's weather data, which supposedly has a network of 40,000 personal weather stations. Personal stations are NOT officially calibrated and often quite wrong. The only legitimate way to do this is use data from official government stations such as the NWS stations here http://mesowest.utah.edu/

Weather betting is a cool concept, but I don't recommend anyone use this site until official data is used for verification. Far too easy for all bets to be marked as losses, they can justify it with data from any personal station in the city that shows you lost, even if that station is taking incorrect measurements and differs from official measurements.

Also openweathermap.org doesn't even show you the station data which is used to verify bets, no way for you to know if you won or lost, or if there's even a weather station in your city. I think their network is actually quite sparse.

I think even if I made the most accurate forecasts I wouldn't receive any Bitcoin in return.

The only legitimate way to bet on the weather is to fix the bet to a single officially calibrated weather station, due to errors in personal weather station calibration and variations in temperature, pressure, and wind across a city.

this is quite interesting, i live in FL and if you have ever been to FL in the summer you know that is is sunny all the time but we get what are called pop up storms.  major rain storms that come through for 10 minutes to an hour almost every day and then back to sun shine.  if you could bet on that, you could make the odds huge because there is no possible way to predict that. cool for thinking outside the box, never thought about betting on weather before.  nice work.

The only legitimate way to bet on the weather is to fix the bet to a single officially calibrated weather station, due to errors in personal weather station calibration and variations in temperature, pressure, and wind across a city.

The reality is if this was done legitimately like I describe, then the coffers of weathbet would rapidly be drained. There is a lot of skill when forecasting only 3 hours ahead, you could make an extremely accurate prediction based on the diurnal cycle and synoptic weather patterns. Even if you didn't know how to do this you could simply use computer model data or the National Weather Service forecast and be very accurate.

Usually weather challenges are done a few days ahead of time rather than a few hours.

If this site is rebuilt properly then everything can be done with official data while having more than enough uncertainty to be profitable. Bets won't be nearly as instant though, will take days or even weeks to find out the result. This is great.  Betting on the weather!  It's funny because I was just thinking earlier that my dice strategy seems to be as predictable as the weather.  I could go a day without a bankroll killer losing streak or I could go a week or more.  It's really not all that different from betting on the weather!  I should  get my meteorologist friends over here to check this out lol

That would be tricky, for common people that would always be the case but there could be a chance for sudden change of temperature however TurtleHurricane has stated that due to this site using more than 40,000 weather station for the data there could be a chance that the site could select a random station and tamper the bet result

To be honest that amount is pretty low already for an on-chain game. With 0.0006BTC and 0.0001 as a fee that would means that you will need to find odds higher than 1.2 just to get a slightly profit considering the house pay for the miners fee for the winning bet

Shorter version of his statement regarding this site is not fair : site is using about 40,000 personal weather station which the result could varied and the site owner could tamper your bet with this. Best way to make it fair would be to base it on 1 official government weather station

If you are asking wether 9 minutes will be enough to get a confirmation then the answer is unsure. More or less the concern will be that they are not using official data from a government weather station but a 40,000 stations which is unsure where they are from or even if their station is eligible to measure the weather changes. Using a single verified data from the government's weather station will be much better to prove this game is fair

Although the wind speed and atmospheric pressure is haed to verify, the temperature is quite easy to verify (and guess). Generally the temperature at noon is higher, while that at midnight is lower. If a weather station report opposite results, then it may not be accurate. Also check the official governmental data and compare them.

No you are wrong on this. You are not betting for the weather condition at 14.00 but you are betting for weather condition at 14.40 and will receive your winning if your bet has atleast 1 confirmation. It will be pretty disadvantage situation for the OP if you are betting on 14.00 because people could abuse this by betting on the last minutes to get a much more accurate data

for example:
bet closing in 1 minute:
Result in ~40 minutes

or

bet closing in 2 hours and 30 minutes
Result in ~ 3 hours and 10 minutes

However with the concern raised by TurtleHurricane, The OP has gotten alot more advantages for this game because the site getting data from 40,000 weather station which means that the data is gotten from either one of 40,000 stations or that it will be an average from 40,000 stations which may cause players to lose if there is atleast few station that got their prediction wrong

Yes it is. However since their data is taken from individual weather stations, they may not be as accurate as official weather stations, however the temperature trend should be the same as the real one.
