ngzhang,
I'm unclear on what I'm supposed to do if I own Icarus now and plan on converting/upgrading/redeeming them for new Icarus in the future? Just sit and wait? I did not get in on the preorder and I won't be able to come up with the extra cash till January at the earliest. Do we have to register our present Icarus with you or should we not worry about it at this time?

we will draft a trade-in detail later. i think no need to worry about it now. I hope that you will allow people to send in multiple Icarus boards and trade them in for an Avalon rig otherwise those Icarus boards are going to be expensive paperweights once ASIC miners hit the blockchain. Granted one can perhaps sell them FPGA developers but realistically they aren't as suitable for that purpose than some of the other boards out there due to the lack of massive I/O options. *shrug* I dunno, I guess we'll have to wait for you to draft your trade-in detail later then. |

Hadn't thought about it, but it seems it's limited to one per board according to the OP: Trade-in projct:
any icarus or lancelot user can trade-in their icarus or Lancelot mining board for 300USD (icarus) or 400USD (lancelot). every new 60G mining machine can only trade-in one old mining board. this project will start after mass-production.
I think this is a mistake. Nzgang, if you only allow for each Icarus/Lancelot to be traded in 1-to-1 you will lose goodwill and most likely it will only lead to a secondary market where most FPGAs are sold to your ASIC customers anyway. Either way they will be traded in. |

I won't be ordering anything without credit card. Pre-ordering is a pretty crappy practice. Too bad everyone is doing it. I would tolerate it, if it was 30days max before release. When it's 3+ months your just stealing peoples money for a free loan. That's directed at everyone not just avalon. Good luck, and hope things work out.
What if pre-orders were to get a discount? Would that be a 'free loan'? |

You mean the illusion of a discount, right? I don't see how it's a discount when it goes down to everyone's normal prices for the same performance. Clever marketing scheme while it lasted though. I'd like to see how many really sell if the price does go up to 2k for 60GH/s. I'm sure the competitors won't mind. |

When you're getting nothing for 3+ months it's always gonna be a free loan. There is no reason for preorders to exist past 30days. If i'm gonna be funding your R+D and the purchase of the materials then i better get some profit sharing or ownership stake. There is nothing wrong with a free loan. I just hope people understand that's what it is. |

@ ngzhang. What about the future performance of Avalon? Bfl has published that they reach with only 50% CPU power the 60Gh/s. Will Avalon also have such reserve capacity for high overclock later? The other is: I paid last week the gears with express transfer. But i have still Pending Wire status  Is that normal? |

I'm 200000300 and I ordered/paid inbetween waves. Probably a lot of cancels and errors and such. Especially since the server crashed during the first sale.
