I wonder if we'll see some cancellations of orders from people that were hoping to get a quick benefit before the reward drop.

You fellers are bringin' the perty music to my ears. Grin

If BFL is that late and bASIC units ship on schedule, then their owners will have paid off units in weeks.

Guys.  Why are you surprised?  BFL "ship date" for FPGA Single was Oct 2011 the first boards went out in March and really didn't hit volume production until April or May.   It was summer before the shipping delays were less than 2 months.

That was with off the shelf FPGA.  People pre-ordered with 100% funds paid in advance.  BFL risks nothing by having delays.

WHY would you expect it to be different?    Based on the FPGA launch I would say add six months to the promised date and if they beat that deadline (Oct 2012 = April 2013) then consider it "early".

Oh god... if you are right, I will be in heaven  Grin

Despite the widespread perception that they'd be first to market I chose to order elsewhere because of BFL's history of deceitful shipping date shell games. Also despite assurances that they'd do better this time, it feels like a bunch of song and dance. I can't see myself doing business with them going forward.

Same!  I had several very early pre-orders for BFL SCs.  I was able to sell those preorders for a nice profit and put my eggs in a different basket  Grin

Since mining is a game, whether you want to call it skill-based or gambling, I would think it's even more exciting for people to stick it out in hopes of the BTC price doubles with the reward drop.

I don't believe any of the ASIC vendors will shop before the block reward and not because they couldn't.

When there is money involved, no one can be trusted. Especially shady bitcoin vendors.

Bitcoin is too easily hidden as income which makes the opportunity even more tempting.

Im starting to believe this as well.

A large, low-cost tinfoil supplier must have just entered the market.

Is the hurricane in US likely to add further delays ?

Doubtful, Unless any parts are already in transit inside the affected areas.

Or Tom gets hit in the head by flying debris, but it looks like the storm track has the winds down to 30-40MPH by the time they get to upstate.

Stay safe Tom!

Who knows, just wait to see if it is added to the excuse list? Not likely, because the storm is eastcoast (amsterdam-new york flights cancelled) and Kansas is mid-us?

The storm is huge. It will get close. Maybe Detroit area could be on the western tip. I know southern Ontario will get hit. I guess it depends on how much they rely on the east coast for supplies and manufacturing.

Why did I sell at $5! Come back to me my old bitcoin! 1GjeBGS4KrxKAeEVt8d1fTnuKgpKpMmL6S

Design is done on the west coast, fab and assembly are in Asia, Management, Service and Shipping are in New York.

Stay safe Tom!

Yeah the context was BFL but it is interesting to see how Basic does as well. I wonder if that construction crane fell off that building in New York yet...

We are not going to make the first half of November shipping goal.  Right now, I want to say fourth or fifth week of November, but lots of little issues have cropped up, pushing the shipping date out a bit here and there. To be on the safe side, I would estimate the end of November / beginning of December as a likely ship date.  We've had some trouble sourcing the VFD screens for the Minirig SC; the wharehouse told us they had about 5x as many screens as they really have on hand, so we are coming up short.  The good news is that we've come up with an alternate solution that is so full of awesome, I am going to save that for a later update. It is, however, necessitating a redesign of the Minirig SC case, though it won't really affect the timeline in any material fashion, as it's just one part that needs to be changed a bit to accommodate the new screen.

We are also still waiting on the HSF for the Single SC to show up - the factory has been a bit slow in that department, so that set things back a bit.

We expect the final chip versions to be in our hands in ~25 days, with final assembly and shipping to begin a few days after that.

So now both BFL and Tom are expecting a launch at around beginning of December. This is interesting.
