It will always be the US dollar. But who knows, there will be a sudden change and bitcoin will take over as the new world currency.  As they say U.S. dollar is fiat money.  The currency which is the most used in international transactions and is the world's primary reserve currency.  So it cannot be any other currency aside from it.

if bitcoin be a new currency i think its fun, because bitcoin can united all country without any difference in money currency. so people have bitcoin currency and if they travel to one country let say they travel to other country, they can exchange their bitcoin into country money currency, and so on. perhaps in future, we can found many local exchanger which have a good achievement.

bitcoin can be a new solution for every country and i think its a good movement in the future.

Fun for us, but not fun for them.

Since when do governments accept anonymity? I don't think they'd ever agree to it. We've entered a new era with many, many changes. That is right, but I can't see a way of agreement with the governors to make BTC a currency.

as in present time USD is the world number one currency and it is difficult to defeat it in next 20 to 30 years of age, but hope that after that when bitcoin will be more popular in the world and  when it will be usable in every part of the world then hope that bitcoin will replace USD, and then bitcoin will become the world number one currency.

The US dollar is supported by the largest military power in the world, it is difficult to replace it with bitcoin.

i think bitcoin is going to be our next world new currency. bitcoin will dominate all other currencies and people will use only bitcoin instead of fiat currency also.

We hope that bitcoin will be our next world new currency and it will beat all the currencies of world specially Dollar and become a number one currency of the world but right now it is not possible because Dollar have very strong importance in the world market and bitcoin have to work hard and accepted in the local markets as well then it will happen for sure.

if bitcoin already used evenly as payment, I think bitcoin will become the new currency in the world. but it remains a viable alternative would not replace fiat.

How will the big leaders allow this to happen? Bitcoin is very hard to be traced. Leaders want to have us in control. As we find Bitcoin being one of the ways we can finally feel.. private and safe (and no, we don't have to be dealers or theives to look for safe ways), this is their enemy.

I won’t say it will be ‘bitcoin’ but I think the new world currency will have global acceptability and it will have inclusive approach towards the economies around the world. You can’t predict the accurate future of bitcoin but next generation currency will be more close or probably the same as crypto currency. I think major currencies like dollar and pound, Euros will have existence with majority but the currency that we are talking about would be near to these traditional currencies.

Did you really post this without adding an option for digital currency ON a digital currency forum? I'm done... That's enough internet for today.

For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the world, and lose his own soul?

The bitcoin is on number 4 in the list. There are 18 people voting for it at the moment. I think bitcoin could be one in a few decades.

CNY aka 人民币  is a privately issued exchange commodity ( a fiat currency ) which currently has the largest user base on the planet as well as the largest circulation.  Just like its little sister the USD it is unverifiable and issued in unknown quantities at arbitrary times, according to the whim of criminals.  However unlike the USD it appears that those who issue it have some small regard for their future - investing some of the proceeds in infrastructure, in particular in southeast asia.

I think that the US Dollar is going to be the new world currency but to me it does not really matter what the new world country is going to be.
There are so many different currencies that for me it does not much make a difference.

The next new world currency could be Ethereum based currency.

http://www.coindesk.com/santander-vies-become-first-bank-issue-digital-cash-blockchain/

Spanish banking giant Santander is working on a project that explores how it could digitize customer cash using the public ethereum blockchain.

Revealed today during a panel talk at Devcon2 by Ether.camp founder and ethereum Java client developer Roman Mandeleil, the news was confirmed by representatives of Santander. In statements, Santander said its goal is to open up its bank-issued funds to a community of innovators as a way of tapping additional efficiencies.

Given the recent deluge of proofs-of-concepts and consortium announcements, Santander's move to potentially issue digital cash on a live public blockchain emerges as one of the more unique projects globally. Running for more than a year, the ethereum network has a market cap of more than $1bn and nearly 40,000 in daily transactions.

In interview, Mandeleil explained that the Santander project envisions how the bank’s customers could convert money from their real bank accounts into a 'tokenized' online currency called 'Cash ETH' that would be redeemable for paper currency.

Mandeleil told CoinDesk:

"These tokens are backed by real money in Santander. At any moment you can get them back and get the dollars."

In a demonstration, Mandeleil showed how a fictional customer could use the prototype to create digital money for use at online merchants and accessible with a mnemonic passcode called a brain wallet. (Despite past issues with the concept, he called this version "statistically hard to break").

Santander representatives indicated that the bank is now seeking to work with Ether.camp on engaging other banking partners in the project. The two partners are also looking to run hackathons that would focus on developing use cases around micropayments.

In essence, the project aims to envision a way for banks to open up their basic bank account offerings to new ideas and transactional services. Further, Mandeleil said the project is part of his 10-person startup's vision that focuses more on using blockchain technologies to achieve incremental benefits for banks and consumers.

"It's more like evolution, not revolution," he said. Still, he emphasized that the trial, should it go live, would mark a "huge leap" by establishing a connection between a publicly traded financial firm and and a public blockchain.

"You can start to build more and more stuff and say to the regulators 'It's not so scary,'" he continued.

Elsewhere, in his talk, Mandeleil discussed Ether.camp'sk with blockchain startup firms including Gemini and Rootstock.

Mass media

Mandeleil showcased a system whereby a Santander customer would have three new options to coincide with their traditional bank account – tokenize, transfer or refund.

Should the user elect to 'tokenize' their funds, the system is set up to allow for payments of as low as $0.01, though small charges may add to Santander’s earnings depending on how the user chooses to allocate the funds. In the example, $350 in funds were withdraw to a test version of the ethereum blockchain, with $1 going toward gas payments, which are needed as payment to execute transactions on the network.

By paying the gas upfront, the user is allotted a certain pre-set number of transactions they can execute, though this figure can be increased with additional payment. Mandeleil sees the digital Santander dollars as a viable alternative to PayPal.

"It's not something that users will not do to have the agility of money. You click on the payment, then you put in the private key and you have the balance and the reliable transactions," he said.

To offer a better view on the project, Mandeleil walked CoinDesk through a version of the prototype in which a user tokenized funds for use as payment for an article on a demo version of The New York Times website.
