I've always wondered about this. If a coin had say 10 very smart devs working on it full time vs a coin with a super crypto genius working on it full time. Which coin would eventually win out if they were in competition?
For many of us whom don't really grasp crypto at any meaningful level nor the maths/coding behind it i'd just like to know if there is an answer to this or is it a crazy question?
I mean is there a level of coding that can only be understood or performed by very very few people?
Certain coins entire rep is based solely upon the coding skills of one person it seems. VB - etherium, evans - dash, CZ boolberry, dz - black (halo) etc.
I mean are there a few coders that really stand above the others and can code things that other devs can't replicate or understand.

I must choose Super Genius how answer, By the way you forget mention to Satoshi Nakamoto. But how its are few then very smart devs is fine too. However I do not rule out other geniuses are working on some projects.

It depends on the type of codebase behind the coin. If it's a bitcoin clone it doesn't matter how clever or dumb the dev(s) are, the coin's popularity is more due to marketing than coding skills. If it's two completely new codebases behind two new coins then I'd go with the super genius because his coin will offer new functions that haven't been available before.

I think that at this point it seems almost random which coin becomes successful. But assuming the team is good, then I vote for the team. Just marketing alone is a full time job, but it alone can also be the deciding factor for a coin: not value, use, or anything else. Just how many people know about it, and if the marketing person can make it look sexy.
You can have the best coin in the world, but I think a team of people would be more successful creating and supporting a coin.

It's not "coding skills", it's design skills...
Once a genius level thinker designs something new... any professional, competent team can implement it.
So the genius thinker really only has the advantage of a head start over a competent team. Unless he makes his new design closed source i guess. |

So the genius thinker really only has the advantage of a head start over a competent team. Unless he makes his new design closed source i guess. In our uncertain corner of hi-tech nerdery, going closed source would be a non-genius move, IMHO. Lets not forget that in addition to being a genius, you also have to put yourself out there. There's thousands of genius-level IQ people across the world that are too neurotic or autistic to ever leave their momma's basement or have the desire to interact with other human beings. They can still paint, I suppose. |

As for smart people, there are or have been plenty of very smart devs, Sunny King, BCNext, John-connor to name a few. |

This Satoshi Nakamato comes to my mind. everyone stealing his idea and trying to make it better but reason behind their development is pure greed.(in 99.999999 cases) Winner WILL always will be Nakamato. just look around to see how much money is usedi n marketing BTC..not because there aren't other altcoins better than BTC but because there is one original idea everything else is just copy of it. |

i will choose 10 very smart devs rather than one super crypto genius. 10 people must be have different idea than 1 people. and if 10 idea working together wold be an amazing. the most important thing to know the algoritm. no matter the language code if you know how to solve the problem with your your algorithm. |

Well, I think that coin what would be able to muster some real world services first. Actually that coin could be a third one with an average developer but with a good idea and some real demand  . Perhaps the winner coin would be a shitty LTC clone with a noob dev without any invention but accepted by a grocery chain  . |
