Could this 16 year old become the next Magnus Carlsen?

By winning this tournament (challengers section) he qualified for Tata Steel Masters Section 2016
http://www.tatasteelchess.com/news/view/id/852/c/Carlsen_wins_Tata_Steel_Chess_Tournament_2015

is it just me or is it hat the last year there becomes suddenly a lot a strong Chinese players? And if so, why us it? Do they rediscovered Chess.

There are lot of strong Chinese players now. I am not sure about the reason. It is a large country. Russia (and former Soviet Union) always had a lot of strong players. Maybe now the rest of the world is just catching up.

Wei Yi seems like a special talent based on his age and rating

Well with more populace to work with there can develop a lot of savants at chess. They can be extraordinary. Russia pretty much dedicated themselves to being chess geniuses, though. I agree. The rest of the world is definitely catching up.

I don't know, fellas. The pawn on a5 seems weak and though it's currently defended we can't exactly play b4 to stop it. Another issue should we try to defend it is the fact that we'll be tying down our major pieces if we stack up there, and we can't exactly play b4.

Black a-rook is coming to the c-file soon, probably even next move depending on what we play, so our decision should take some prophylaxis into account concerning the consequences of pushing the c-pawn.

I am pretty sure Greenlion meant Rf1 not Rf2

You're correct.  My post had tons of explanation, yet somehow the typo is so hard to figure out! Smiley

I think I'm starting to notice that usually after posting the charts, the #1 position becomes a lot more popular. I'm not sure if this is the bandwagon effect or coincidence but it's making me nervous.

Just found out about the game. I hope nobody minds having another player.

I recommend 15. e4

e4 will eventually become weak after after Rac8 and c4 because e4 lose will lose the d3 pawn as a defender. After black plays b4 our knight on c3 will not be able to defend e4 either.

My idea is that we can still play e4 now and meet  Rac8 with  Re1. Then after he plays c4 we can play dxc4 (or even d4) and we still have our pawn on e4 sufficiently defended.  If you don't like the idea of moving our rook again we can play b3 after Rac8 instead of Re1

For me the important thing is that we find some way to advance in the center. Black seems to have an advantage on the queenside already so we need to do something active to build counter chances

Bandwagon effect is definitely possible but how can this be easily prevented? Anyone can still manually count votes without a chart being posted.

Do you think we should move to secret ballots? Some people may choose not to participate if there are too many rules about voting.

Unfortunately that plan will lose immediately after he plays b4 and forks our rook and knight

I assume you want to trade bishops on the long diagonal. Care to tell us why? To me it looks like you will be weakening your kingside and giving his queen breathing room

I also play Cheese :-p

I have also looked at that move but it doesn't do that much. It would be better if the bishop could go to b6 after that but his knight defending that field.
