I would not equate a coach like Frank Lampard with Alonso, because their styles and ways of coaching are very different even though Alonso did have to learn from some bad things that happened to other coaches even in very different teams. If you look  at some of the new ammunition they have now such as one of them Harry Kane then I would also say the  same thing as you, and indeed what is expected by their fans that this season they should be able to perform better or mean still have full power at the  top of the standings as defending champions as well as  the favorite team, but the problem may be that this season is different compared to the previous few seasons, last season we only saw two teams that could always dominate the top five standings such as Bayern Munich and Dortmund who were always busy in the race.
