It's the J/GH that's the important part.
Yes the cost is up right now. But if you have good electrical rates, and the 205 outlet needed to run the thing, and are only paying 1/4th a watt per GH then it seems like a pretty good deal. I have 9 cents electricity. I calculated ROI for almost 250 days, but then we'll see block halving. I think ROI is not possible with my electricity fee considering mining difficulty. I think even with free electricity and the block cutting in half no one will ever get their money back on these. Common sense on this one.

Batch 1 hasn't sold out yet. Not that surprising given the price.
This is definitely not a repeat of the S3 (the last Antminer that I bought). The first two batches of that model sold out in hours.
It's too bad they didn't also offer a less dense model for a lower price. People are champing at the bit for new hardware, but can't handle the entry wound of the S7 price.

I disagree price is not the issue. This miner will be louder then the s-5 and if you are running it in your home your wife or girlfriend or mom or neighbor will be wanting to toss you a beating. My max power that I can do is 11k So I could run 9 in my house during the winter and my wife will be on the news as bitcoiner's wife kills husband with a miner in his sleep!

Wow, $220 for a PSU? Host with us and we can get you a PSU for $80. Our PSUs are voltage adjustable from about 11.8V to 12.8V to allow for either improved overclocking capability or improved performance.

2x 51.3dB for fans 2x 30dB for PSU so ~55dB.
I think you may be in error with this, as it appears the S7's are using the S5 fans, and the S5 fans are quite loud in the ~70dB range. If I had any reason to think the S7's were capable of running at ~55dB, I probably would have purchased one to replace a bank of older miners, as that would be quieter than the S5's.

I believe they are using S5+ fans not regular S5 fan's. And I could be wrong on that. But I think they kept S5+ fans.

it has 6 jacks 4 cables have a single plug and 2 cables have 2x plugs so you get 8 to plug into the s-7 it can just do the job. but it has less cables then bitmaintech wants you to use.

They are afraid of people using cheap PSU's/cords and make sure to warn 3 all over. I suspect they pack a paper with each S7 warning of all the different things and an email. If you know what your doing and quality PSU 2 should be able to do it.... but if any issues if you tell bitmain you used 2 chances are they pull warranty. I'm not saying to do it but I have a feeling some will use two and just not mention that to bitmain if they need RMA. Sidehack also had a good idea. If you use a proper splitter (not a cheap to small of wire one) bitmain did not say no on that... but they could consider it improper powering as it's vague. So someone might ask on proper guage splitters what bitmains official stance is.

S7-we will know in a month or so.

I find this conclusion to sound accurate and actually quite funny. You will never get your bitcoin back if you buy one of these at this price. It isn't even close. This is for suckers or those with stolen electricity.

not true since: 1. you don't know what bitcoin price would be. 2. you don't know what bitmain's price would be going forward. 3. you don't know what aftermarket price would be in early October or November the combination of these three parameters makes it much less certain than you think. BTW, people were buying S5+

I bought 0.5w/GH hardware for 1BTC/TH over 6 months ago - its basically paid for itself and still holds the same value on the resale market. This stuff at 2BTC/TH, without power supply, is insanity
add the risk of miner failure! and that is over a longer time! miner broken and you got fucked like a royalty! This is a problem lots of people don't think about. Such a high value single product, one controller doing everything. The "idea" is NOT to put all your eggs in one basket.

Here are the jet engines. Jet EnginesThere's a big reason why there are two if these fans. I wouldn't even recommend wasting money on quieter fans. If anything you could maybe replace one of the jet engines with a quieter fan, but not both.

It basically comes back to density. A less dense model would have reduced power requirements, produce less waste heat and noise, *and* would be more affordable. But clearly Bitmain is catering more to their larger data center customers than home miners. That trend will likely continue, unfortunately.
