Fun stuff would be cheap things like sidehacks USB sticks..

yes exactly.

looking for real fun and want bitcoin flavor?

yes cool, so install your RPi, compile own linux kernel, start writing own drivers for fancy USB stick, experiment with Arduino kit or deploy small solar panel to power it, install temperature collector, start contributing to open-source or tweaking/hacking stuff, which you had already at home. this is what I'm calling FUN. at least for geeks.

I want to be f*cking rich like other guys here, calling "fun" by ordering 2k box with 1kW+ power consumption..Sad

A lot of us here are not mine owners, rather home miners mostly for fun. So your point doesn't make sense to me.

uhh, what is "funny" on sending ~2k USD to some chinese strangers? I'm trying really hard, but I don't see any "fun" aspect. Unbox, plug and play and time to time click broswe and upload new firmware..this is what you are calling "fun"?

if yes, you really don't know what "fun" for geeks is, but believe or not, it is not overpriced noisy box from China and you don't need to invest 2k USD to enjoy it, really.

Well, plugging in and checking the miner once a day is not what I am doing. I also have a GPU rig and always hang out on the altcoin forums, solo-mining some ninjas, mining some forgotten coins. If I was just mining btc, without even pool hopping it wouldn't be fun at all, I strongly agree. I don't expect you to understand this, if you don't know what I am talking about. Looking at the 2k hobby argument, I play WoW since 2007 ie. Burning Crusade expansion, I am paying 20$ avarage each month since 2007 and I bought bunch of special mounts and etc. This is far greater than spending a machine 2k (although if you look at my previous posts I think it is overpriced, like, A LOT!). I also like to have the latest gear.

Oh, and as you mentioned later, the last thing I am after is being rich through bitcoin. I am currently at my 2nd university education, I am a journalism graduate an active law student. Tongue

May I remind you of something called "HALVING" before going crazy on a purchasing spree?

That is a million years away.  By the time halving arrives, each and every S7 will have long been tossed in the bin.  Miner lifetime is far shorter than that.

Stop jerking off your mind. Cheesy 10 months is not really an accurate equivalent to a million years. Regardless, you are actually adding to my own point: NO ROI in them!

You know haters there is such a thing as a secondary market for these things right? There are lots of ways to chase ROI.

my Sp20 is still very profitable at $0.1/kwh after ~9 mo
My Sp30 is still profitable even without downclock after 11mo
Conclusion: difficulty rises in the last 10-12 mo were moderate, allowing good hardware to function longer

My thoughts on S7 purchase and profitability:

I consider that I am using $$ (even I briefly convert $$ to bitcoin), so my expense is ~1869 without coupon plus ~125/PSU=~$1994
Bitcoin profitability ~360 days.
however, used price of at least 30% (after selling expenses) at the end of this period makes it a 30% ROI in $$ terms.
Additional upside (but only in $$ terms, not in btc) MIGHT happen IF BTC price would go up.
You'll make the same or slightly smaller btc (due to difficulty rises), but make more $$ and aftermarket price would be higher.

I am not an electrician. Can somebody please tell me if I can run one of these on a standard outlet for an apartment in the USA? I would buy the power supply that bitmain sells.

In addition to the electrical supply in your apartment, remember that the S7 should be considered a LOUD 1200W heater. While nobody has tested one yet, every expectation is that it will be at least S5 loud. Think vacuum cleaner loud. Maybe Bitmain worked some magic, but the fans that are present are expected to be noisy and powerful to keep the 1200W blades cool enough. If that fits your apartment situation, then you'll be good.

Along with the above I will do a very long and through review.  Sound meters.  Different fans. ways to reduce noise.

That said.  At best  it will be 72-77db  and nasty pitched when it arrives.

I think I can do 65db and better pitch sound with high hash say 4400-4800.

I know I can do  45db to 50db with downclock to 3000gh

I hope I can do   45db 3000gh  and .18 to .20 watts.  with downclock and voltage drops.

see highlighted...really? (if measured with good dB meter)
anything at 60-61 db is already quite nice (Sp20 produces that much at setting 10)
if you can get to 61db at 4200-4400GH, it would be SUPER-i would definitely buy more then and I have some ideas about fan mods as well.

good point on the hobby thing , the problem is by buying this overpriced gear you are perpetuating the cycle.

Even wehn you resell the unit to some other poor sucker after using it for six months it still allows companies like Bitmain , KNC etc to flourish which is anoying since you know they have huge datorhalls of s7 units mining for themselves bascially at cost.

I wish you knew how to read. Since the first page I have posted several times about the S7 being overpriced and no I didn't buy, probably won't if I can't find a used one for a fair price. I was stating that not everyone is after huge profits, some people buy gear just for the sake of fun. And perhaps you have no idea how the market works, bitmain is now like the monopoly of this industry. They can put whatever price they want. No one to compete. On the other side, farms are buying in chunks and I am sure they will get or are already getting huge discounts.

Have a better idea? Start a fundraiser. It is what it is now, what you are doing is pure drama. They are well aware of their product being overpriced. (oh Gekko guys doing that btw and it is pretty exciting to follow, I hope they'll be successful.

....(Many bought miners Zues miners at that thinking they would be profitable.. or even paid crazy price for titans). Be interesting to see if it gets the great pump or if investors hold back knowing they will lose half there investment with one dump.. Risky for sure..

Titan has ROI , with free electricity.  The purchase price was 14.6 BTC
Patch1, 4 cubes, 3 time sended 1 or 2 cube to warranty. Still one Cube with dead Die shipped back from KFC.
Results  today https://www.nicehash.com/?p=miners&a=0&addr=1394tL5SDZ4FmxJpeTN6QmESGN45bW9jQT&l=0

Total https://blockchain.info/address/1394tL5SDZ4FmxJpeTN6QmESGN45bW9jQT

If you are talking about this address above then the ROI has taken almost 1 year. And now the profit is ~10.5$ per day pretty good after a year Smiley

Better off selling the Titan to help get the ROI quicker now that block halving has hit prices are dropping might be too late now

somebody dropped 1628 BTC/single order recently; either a farm or hashnest/pacmic4? buy.
If a farm- at least 200 machines (without discount). Close to a PH, but probably a Ph with a bit of discount.
I am still thinking that they will decrease the price/give out coupon at some point-$200-$226 (1 BTC) and sales would increase twofold, in my opinion.

Would be nice to get a few good coupons for batch 2.

I ordered 2 on day one so 2 coupons for 200 each for batch 2 would be nice.

I don't think that it worth now to sell it? Even selling of 50% real price is too hard i think. Better to earn ~0.047 per day.

I see some people are trying to figure out how many units were sold in batch 1 so far. I am sure most people are using bitcoin to buy the units, but i paid via wire. So anyone else that paid with fiat money will not be showing up in the bitcoin wallet totals.

people are aware of this.

so if btc shows 1000 units sold tack on 10% or so for other sales and we are at 1100.

just a guess but it is more then 0%  so why not  not just pick 10%

and realize we are 1000 to 1100 units sold

4100 BTC, but 1628 came from one order of at least 200 machines.
the rest-2472 BTCor ~300 machines. Total maybe about 500 S7
