I think that Keyboards Should have the Bitcoin symbol Already!

It has been 7 years now, and we still haven't seen the bitcoin symbol in keyboards or at least, if not a single key, a key combo for the BTC symbol.

There is a post around with a proposal to include the symbol in ANSI, I think. From them, it will be included in keyboards.

And eventhough i copied the bitcin symbol, i can't paste it on any editor (notepad, msoffice, star office, etc.,) it remains shows B (Capital B). But i can paste it on browser itself. Sad

Why would they add the Bitcoin symbol before other major world currencies? Looking at my keyboard now, the only currency symbol I see is the $. I don't see anything for the pound or euro (although that may be because I am in the US) which are more commonly used and have been around longer than Bitcoin has.

In some English dictionary the word "bitcoin" is not yet included as a word.
I guess bitcoin needs to be accepted, known and used by everybody first before it it can be added in keyboard

Take me to the day when there's a Bitcoin symbol on a key and if you keep pressing it fast enough it mines Bitcoin for you, then I'll be happy. Bearing in mind there aren't many keys to go around, I wonder which key people would be happy to sacrifice?

I'd get rid of the symbol above the six: ^

I barely use it.

I would rather get rid of the one above the 4  Roll Eyes Those legacy fiat symbols is sooo old news.  Grin
They could add a ASCI combination for it, if all keyboard options is filled. ê»ÿ╞ôö╣
It's a bit early to push for this, but we will get there, just give it some time ^tick tick tock^ See I have a use for the ^ symbol.  Grin

Yes but the users of keyboard are more as compared to bitcoins, so if there is a symbol of bitcoin on keyboard people would try to know what this symbol means? and that would be the beginning of knowing bitcoins as we all know that when we see something new we want to know what exactly it is? and if there is a symbol of bitcoin on keyboard than we would expect more users of bitcoins.

that is just not going to happen. at least we will not see a dedicated key like "alt+4"which is "$" because there is not enough usage for bitcoin and it will just become confusing for people who are using a computer and have no idea what that symbol is, and their number is not small to neglect.

the first thing that needs to happen is an official ascii code then maybe after a longer time and only if bitcoin becomes popular, it would get a dedicated key on the keyboard.

This has already been suggested by someone who actually did something to get it included to the Unicode Standard: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1170902.0
It seems that, whenever theres a thread about a new subject, other threads about the same subject appear.
I wonder why.... Roll Eyes

But keyboards lack other currency symbols already. Australasian keyboards have "$" but nothing else, my UK keyboard has "$", "£" and "€" (but nothing for the Swiss Franc or the Japanese Yen), etc.

I agree in principle, but I think it's going to be tough convincing keyboard manufacturers and regional standards organisations Sad

Totally agree about the key combo, though. There's a post somewhere on bitcointalk about getting Bitcoin into Unicode, and I guess that that would be a necessary first step.

This space intentionally left blank.
