So, how can I start earning trust on here when it seems to me that most people who deal stuff on bitcointalk only deal with people with green trust rankings and are more than just a newbie/new member. I would prefer to deal with people with green trust ranking myself, but that just validates my point. So what ways are there to increase my trust? It seems to be very hard to gain the trust of people when you have a low membership status

If possible, contribute to the forum more and start by selling and trading goods at the section. Overtime, people may start trusting you as long as you're honest. Trust rating aren't very reliable due to the DT abuse. Escrow can always be used if you are not trustworthy enough.

The vast majority of the forums don't mind dealing with 0 trust/low trust members as long as escrow is used. It is very hard to earn trust, even with a hero member rank. Keep in mind that people can just buy accounts (same goes with trusted accounts).
Trust doesn't mean much anyways and escrow should always be used.

By using escrows and being fully honest in your tradings, even people with red trust ratings will be traded with through an escrow, although they probably have tried to avoid it before. (The largest reason for bad trust ratings next to scams.) Be fair in your pricing and negotiating or you might come off as an arse and you won't make the deal and you're set to trade!
TL;DR Be honest, trade safely.

Another way to get lots of trust quickly is to buy it - but you have to be a bit sneaky about it because trust buying is frowned upon here. So don't tell anyone you are buying trust.
Do lots of giveaways, games, crazy offers; make people happy. There's no trust involved but they will give you really good trust ratings anyway.
Make yourself into a popular, likeable character with plenty of goodwill towards yourself. That way the 1% who are smart enough to figure out your game will be silenced by the 99% fooled by your game.

They even said they would not mind if people would follow the advice given in jest because its impossible for them to ROI and thus this attempt to buy trust would result in plenty coins given away. <- not the exact words used.

Most reliable way? Prove that you are a trustworthy member of this community by doing trades flawlessly and avoid doing scams. In that way, there is a chance to get a green on your trust ratings.
And don't do what BPB said about buying trust. That doesn't work out well.

Note that, it is coming from a member who has 140+ positive trust rating. I wouldn't say its practical at all. I highly doubt that BiPolarBob is trying to buy trust, he started off giving away money to people and refused to provide his own address for anyone to repay him. The most important thing is that more than 80% of the people aren't in default trust. He also organised various giveaways every few weeks/months and those were huge, gift cards, BTC etc and in most cases, it has a ridiculous discount and those money used to bought gift cards were sent to charity. The main reason that people would trust him is that he has given out lots and lots of BTC and there is no reason for him to pull a scam to get away quick. People are smarter than you think to judge his trust rating if he does something suspicious. I highly doubt he could get as much as he gave away if he decides to scam.

Be trustworthy, be honest, trade here digital goods or virtual currencies. In the beginning you will have to use escrow a lot since nobody will deal with a new person without an escrow.
You will also need to bump your activity. So post here, help people, post good, genuine posts and you will be OK. It will take time but this is how this forum is imagined. It takes time to earn trust.

Of, if you have any type of ability, sell yourself: propose services! IT abilities are very popular in this forum.

Start to offer some goods or service. Use Escrow and be honest with the others. Then you will get good reputation and trust. Good start and good luck.

Pretty much all the members with high green trust started out trading oblivious to the trust system (at least in my case)

I think that too many people believe in the ideal of "people only trade with members who have high trust!" Let's be honest; more than 99% of trades done here on the forum are done between two neutral-rated people. Unless you want to be able to do huge trades with other people (and I don't see why you would unless you were a scammer ), there's no need for green trust. It's just something that comes as you continue to be honest.
