Well from what I've read plugging in a pcie 6+2 connector into the cpu slot (on the psu) will fry whatever your connecting.

You would have to verify the pinout. If you change the wiring so that +12v go to +12v and ground to ground, there should not be any problem, assuming the cpu socket is on the main rail. Seem risk prone.

I think the best way to save a socket would probably use perif to molex, then use a 2x molex to PCI-e adapter to power the controller.

I would not do this to power a blade.

So the pci connection on top of the S7 is purely for powering the control board? I'm thinking of running each S7 off an EVGA 1600, but I need another port on the PSU for the controller.

Look into purchasing a molex to PCI-e adapter to get that extra PCI-e connector for powering the controller. I'm using a couple of those adapters with an EVGA 1300W G2 and everything has been working just fine. Small piece of advice, if you've purchased a new GPU recently they often come with one or two of these adapters, so you could use that instead of purchasing another for $4.

The EVGA 1600 should have enough cable on its own for 10 ports. With the 6+2 and 6 pci-e connector it comes with combined, this should not me a problem. If you mean because there are only 9 * 8 pins socket, there are two other things you can do;

Use a cable with 2 6 Pins, or use a 6 to 6 pin cable and use the perif socket to power the controller.

Lastly, the EVGA 1600 is probably a good pick if you want to OC it. But i guess 2x 750-850 G2/GS would be cheaper if you fancy running multiple PSU per miner.

Hey dogie, I have a dumb question for you.  You recommend the 1300w psu, but you need 10 6 pin connectors right ?  Its 3 per board, and all 3 must be on the same psu.  the 1300 w comes with : 6 x 6+2pin PCI-E and 2 x 6-pin PCI-E.  So how to you rig it ?

With a decent PSU like this you're fine doing 2x PCI-E to each hashing board, = 7 minimum. If you want 3 PCI-E per board you can get some 2x molex to PCI-E adapters off ebay for a few bucks. Other non industrial solutions with 10+ native PCI-E will cost you far more than this.

Do not forget to add that, if he does so,  he will lose the warranty.

Thanks dogie for the explanation !  May I suggest looking at the evga GS series, they come with a lot of 6 pin and 6+2pin connectors, for example getting the 850w gs gold can power 2 / 3 and then take whatever psu you have lying around for the other one.  and keep the waranty Smiley  Cheers

first two are mininingrigrentals and kano as the third backup.

but why it randomly goes offline?

is this being fixed with firmware?
