Maybe you could block the referral address from getting new referrals? That shouldn't be too much code.

The Bitcoin network protocol was designed to be extremely flexible. It can be used to create timed transactions, escrow transactions, multi-signature transactions, etc. The current features of the client only hint at what will be possible in the future.

Maybe you could block the referral address from getting new referrals? That shouldn't be too much code. Yes. This is easy but this could be a bad choice. For example... Now I have so many protections in my site that I'm receiving no more than 10 claims per day referred by bots. This represents only 1500 satoshi lose by referrals (and 30,000 by majot reward). However, the bot referral is the mark, the flag, that I use to identify a calimer address as bad address. If I block the referral payment to those bot address, I will save 1500 satoshi daily. But I won't identify the new bad address anymore (and I will continue paying the major claim to these new address). Then I do prefer to keep the bot referral unblocked to identify and block new bad claimer address. The bots stopped to get money crazily from my site. I guess finally I'm winning this battle. heheh

Of course they attack. There are a kind of bot that use just a command line to send requests to you faucet. this type of bot don't load your HTML/PHP files and don't see the popups too.
