Things are getting rather exciting  Grin

I bet you are looking forward to holding that parcel with your Jalapeño or single "sc" in it..

So what's the latest on the hardware shipping dates? Will BFL make it happen this time, or is it all gonna be delayed to next year??

2-3 weeks until hardware is shipped out that has yet to provide proof of a working device. Seems like that isn't enough time to go from board prototype to shipment.

Just saw this posted in another thread...

Quote from: BFL_Josh;3000
We are not going to be shipping the first week of November, I can definitely say that.  We are waiting on the bulk chips from the foundry, that is really the major delay right now.  As soon as that dam breaks loose, we pretty much have everything else either ready to go or in the pipeline to be completed shortly.

Q: when

Quote from: BFL_Josh;3004
They are not done yet.  We are paying for what's called a "bullet run" though, which is essentially an expedited process to get the chips done sooner.

BFL should NEVER EVER announce a product withe a release date again. They should squirrel away with the VC and profits from FPGAs then one day go:
"Oh hey everybody, you can buy this awesome device NOW, we have them in stock"

How does that even make sense? They don't even have the chips yet.. but what about soldering everything to the PCB? Who does that? Do they even have their PCB yet?

Why would they do that?

Nov will turn into Dec and right around the time people get pissed they will demo a board or two and promise shipment will go soon.  Soon will turn in January or maybe February and even then the product will come out in a trickle.

I mean going that route made them a mint when selling FPGA.  Their customers paid up front, they didn't have to risk any of their own capital, and the way early pre-announcement killed sales of competitors.  A win-win-win.

Why wouldn't they do it again? Given the bitcoin community rewarded them for their prior business actions (accepting orders based on a simulation, grossly inaccurate specs, false shipping times, etc) why would they change?

Don't forget it is still helping GPU/FPGA miners, who would have had a lot more competition if BFL wouldn't have announced to be releasing an ASIC in October.

More like a win-win-win-win

Antivirus gives a lot false positives on CGminer.
If you don't trust it, then installed it only on a dedicated miner.
CGminer is TROJAN FREE.
I collect my bitcoins on a dedicated laptop inside a VMWare image and backup the wallet and put that backup in another house.
Just in case if my laptop got stolen.

If you only have a few bitcoins, then I wouldn't bother to take some extra security measure.
But if you already collect more than 1k like a lot people already have hoard.
I don't think it is wise to keep your wallet unprotected.
Why would the developers of bitcoin adding a encrypt funtion into the client if NOBODY going to steal it.

You read his code and found this? This is not a debate... You being called a moron is not debatable.

I had cgminer for a long time, the old version I downloaded. Never brought up an antivirus when I ran it.
Recently though after antivirus upgrade it started pointing out that cgminer has a trojan. I have a serious belief that someone on the big business market doesn't want you to run it.
I have downloaded the newer version of cgminer and nothing has been detected.

He does have a point about a large group of bitcoin users all using the same mining software. If that software is ever compromised, it could be disastrous. CGMiner is technically open source, but I never compile. I just download the 7z with the executable from his website.

However, I completely trust Con and the entire CGMiner team, and I stand by my original assumption that Strata can't get it up without trolling the forums first. Reminds me of Bulanula.

You'll remember me as the guy with the most ignores on forum (ever), not scammer.  Cool
You don't tell people how they'll remember you. People usually make that decision for themselves.

I have downloaded the newer version of cgminer and nothing has been detected.

http://virusscan.jotti.org/en/scanresult/aaf0e47ea389718f250505bd64a8be3470c43997

http://free.agnitum.com triggers as well. WinXP DEP triggers too.

You can always compile the program on your own, or keep wallet off mining machine.

You mean those few % of users who know how to do it, and why should they do it?

I rest my case - it's all fine. Your wallets are safe. Cya!  Cheesy

I am prob running different antivirus, but as much as I love the simplicity and overclocking possibilities of cgminer, it always freezes on me so I wasn't really able to run it.

You are right, not many ppl know how to compile, I am a Windows user and I love Linux. And many more of linux users know how to compile, or maybe it just seems that way.

I'll admit, I do not know how to compile software in Windows. Linux? Sure! And I'm not talking about Gentoo's Portage, either (which is my personal flavor of choice. PITA, but I love it).

I compiled once or twice in Linux. I wouldn't even want to try to do it in Windows, would seem to be more complicated.

You stupid fucking retard. The source code is posted so you can download, review, and then compile your own cgminer. The false positives have been fully explained both in the forum and in the README. If you do not trust the released binary executable version of the program than don't run it.

I would put you on ignore, but stupid people like you give me funny stuff to read each day.

Anyone with an IQ of 50 or higher should be able to compile Cgminer on Windows. I spent hours writing the documentation (windows-build.txt) to make it easy for anyone. I spent hours going through it step by step on each version of Windows to make sure anyone could do it.

You already answered as to why someone should do it. Because they are paranoid like you and did not do enough research as to why the false positive exists.

I fully trust the author, but I do compile my own binary with each release I use.

Heh, I've now got 2 reasons to tell people they are trying for a substrata award:
1) nut-cases who want to tell everyone what they MUST be doing
2) those who are afraid to the run a binary release that they think is a virus (i.e. their computer is smarter than them) but also too lazy to do the steps written down to compile it

There's a doc in there (windows-build.txt) that says, step by step, how to compile it on windows
There's a doc in there (linux-usb-cgminer) that says, step by step, how to install xubuntu on USB or HDD
The README tells you how to compile it on linux

... and there are people who spend their time helping others for free ... (though some donate also)

As for remembering people, yep you certainly are at the top at the moment: being remembered as the most pretentious, delusional, narcissist on the forum.

Nod32, wich I trust, dont return any false positive with CGMiner !
And I trust the Dev team and the community about CGMiner, that's also my favorite miner.

Why poeples dont just mine on a dedicated computer, with a reasonalble size wallet on another computer.  And there is an encryption built-in the client, just put a strong password on it and you 98% covered !

Very few are on my ignore list, as I'm for free speech too, some user just pollute threads, and waste my time !

Even having only 1 days 10 hours loggued on the forum, I've less than 5 on my ignore list..  (I've been reading this forum for hundreds if not thousands of hours, just not loggued in, I log only since "giving signature to win an ASIC Wink

so SubStrata, you won a place in the "less than 5" I ignore, in thousands of hours reading this forum... I'm glad you're proud of it Wink

Would you mind if I hijack the thread back to the OT ("2-3 weeks to go until the first unboxing of a BFL ASIC?? MAYBE?")?

I have 3 major concerns regarding BFLs ASICs

1) Despite some promises that we will get an updated time schedule this week - no new information has been made available.

2) About 4 weeks ago BFL asked the community do chose a representative to go visit BFLs premises. Yochdog has been chosen - but still no word from BFL when to go.

3) BFL does not know for sure if their ASICs will work - or not. It's all based on simulation - there is STILL no prototype yet.

Question (yesterday): "Does BFL have a working (hashing) prototype ASIC miner?"
Josh: "No, we are waiting on our ASIC chips right now, ...".

2)Mine to Address on Cellphone/Tablet/VM/Offline key

4)PROFIT!!!!

CGminer is on my exclusions list. Big fucking DEAL. If you're smart, your wallet is in an encrypted offline format somewhere, where only you can get to it. Mining 101 people, don't be dumb.

subSTRATA, quit being a troll.

And if you're not trolling, go herp-derp in the newbie section again until you can recite 1 through 4 by heart.

You can be mad at Frizz23, but that is not really any of my concern. The points he is making are relevant. If there are no ASIC prototype chips yet, it will take a lot longer than 2-3 weeks to get a package from BFL.

Nor is your concern my concern, that is why I addressed Frizz32, and not you. The questions this turd brought up are asked dozens of times now, legitimate, but no longer from his mouth.
Plus that the post he made was almost 1 on 1 copied from the BFL forum user m0mchil. If that is another Frizz32 alias, I don't know.

What being was ignored by the retards during his achievement (what was he trying to achieve anyway) Huh This is very confusing.

Yes, I will be developing for both bASIC and the BFL SC devices. However, BAMT is dropping support for cgminer.

Haha - totally forgot about Schrodinger's Cat.  Am so glad the cat is alive Huh  This image haunts me.

Am glad to hear cgminer will work with BFL SC line  Grin

Ckolivas and lodcrappo -  BAMT and cgminer work so nicely together!  My little 7 GPU mining setup has been running reliably for months, even on a weak wifi signal... I just wish I had discovered this genius combination a year or so ago. From 95F to 30F ambient temps, I never have to worry about fan settings, auto-downclocking etc with cgminer.  The best part is how it all can be reset with a simple power cycle, by using BAMTs ultra-easy config file.  Although cgminer can be re-added to BAMT, it'd be a shame for an updated version of it not to be included in the BAMT image.  People should have the option of a future version of cgminer, so they can discover from day 1 of testing that cgminer will have been the correct choice.

Lodcrappo, Ckolivas is a non-stop improver, and I'm sure cgminer will continue to have its strengths over other miners in the ASIC era.  I'm looking forward to the next BAMT release, where it'll be run on a mix of FPGA and ASIC (and possibly GPUs to heat my garage area ambient temp to above freezing during this transitional time) Smiley !

Boy, you all just got trolled hard.

I'm not trolling. This is serious debate, which is actualy not started by me, but ckolivas looking down on me. I just countered with truth.

The fact remains none of you really know ckolivas. The fact remains all he needs to do to steal countless wallets in future is to deploy
payload which can do theft in some future upgrade of his miner. Your anti-virus software won't even notice, since you have his miner on
exclusion list for years now, and possibly even forgot about it all. But it won't happen, right? "He is a very nice guy, and you are stupid!"

If you think it would be first time in history that people got scammed by someone who built trust with community-dedicated hard work
over prolonged period of time, than you're really dumb.

Those who didn't learn from past mistakes are destined to repeat them.
Why the hell do you need anti-virus software?  You're not stupid enough to keep your wallet on a Windows box are you?

BFL should NEVER EVER announce a product withe a release date again. They should squirrel away with the VC and profits from FPGAs then one day go:
"Oh hey everybody, you can buy this awesome device NOW, we have them in stock"

D&T, whats your plan for future mining or you quit completely?

Just saw this posted in another thread...

Quote from: BFL_Josh;3000
We are not going to be shipping the first week of November, I can definitely say that.  We are waiting on the bulk chips from the foundry, that is really the major delay right now.  As soon as that dam breaks loose, we pretty much have everything else either ready to go or in the pipeline to be completed shortly.

Q: when

Quote from: BFL_Josh;3004
They are not done yet.  We are paying for what's called a "bullet run" though, which is essentially an expedited process to get the chips done sooner.

> From BFL forums
https://forums.butterflylabs.com/showthread.php/104-Shipping-in-2-3-weeks/page8

They will probably hire some extra staff to make the 700pc a day runs going on with there haevily invested production equipment they bought this month a face tot face section of there employees at there production facility  be cool on there website, but without sunclasses  Cool Cool haha..GL and just click my link@sig would give u some rest... Kiss Kiss

How does that even make sense? They don't even have the chips yet.. but what about soldering everything to the PCB? Who does that? Do they even have their PCB yet?

PCB is mostly done by machines, its not an issue. They say PCB is already finished, just waiting for chips to complete.

2-3 weeks until hardware is shipped out that has yet to provide proof of a working device. Seems like that isn't enough time to go from board prototype to shipment.

yeah 6 months later  seems

Is there any way to know how many machines/GH are still open/ordered at BFL? Only just in case they start to ship the first asic it would be interesting to know how many are before an order you would make then.

Please ALWAYS contact me through bitcointalk pm before sending someone coins.

Why the hell do you need anti-virus software?  You're not stupid enough to keep your wallet on a Windows box are you?

This.

Installing "antivirus" software is a sure sign of n00bdom.  It says that you have no faith in your ability to retain control of your own system.

Us real h4x0rz never use the stuff.

I collect my bitcoins on a dedicated laptop inside a VMWare image and backup the wallet and put that backup in another house.
Just in case if my laptop got stolen.

One thing I just 'love' is people explaining their security measures. A healthy dose of paranoia goes a long way with the back stabbing that goes on these days

They didn't at first. They only did after the first wave of thefts happened. Reactive instead of proactive.

But I think we are getting waaay off-topic here.

So, to go back on topic, help me to understand the supposed state of BFL's chips.  There seems to be a lot of confusion about that.

Wafer #1: "Burned" for testing with some crazy wire bonded rig that was apparently of dubious benefit.
Wafer #2: Bumped, diced, packaged, and in testing.  Some soldered onto boards.
Wafers #3-6: Huh  Are they still just wafers?  Have they been bumped yet?  Diced and packaged?
Wafers #7-12: Huh Last we'd heard the top few metal layers were being held back.  Have they given the go-ahead yet to finalize them?  If so, when was it given?
Wafers #13+: Huh

This BFl guys make me panic. Who's willing to bet that at least 30% of first units shipped will break, burn and/or fail during the first month of use?

Why the hell do you need anti-virus software?  You're not stupid enough to keep your wallet on a Windows box are you?

This.

Installing "antivirus" software is a sure sign of n00bdom.  It says that you have no faith in your ability to retain control of your own system.

Us real h4x0rz never use the stuff.

Sure... and you are one of the guys that disable javascript just in case some virus will try to penetrate your system? Wink

I think an AV is a good thing when you want to browse with lesser risks. It happens occasionally that websites are infected. Its better to be protected this way if you dont want to lose functions of the browser/websites. Its not secure but better than nothing. Only my thinking...

I just want to point out again for the nth time that if you bought $1,300 in bitcoin instead of preordered a BFL back when bitcoin was under $10 then you would have over  $11,700 today  Roll Eyes

You know what's more secure, if you think you'll need it?  A browser in a VM.  Save the VM state first, and when you're done browsing, just roll back.

No. You would have ~130BTC. Who cares about fiat?

Added layer of protection, install sandboxie in the VM and launch the browser in that.  Install noscript add-on if you're extra worried.

I have not seen anybody selling goods or services in bitcoin that isn't pegged to the price in fiat. 130BTC buys a lot more now then it did 8 months ago, so you should care.

Avalon is now priced in BTC only, beginning with batch 3.

Like Yifu says "The loop has been closed."

BFL should NEVER EVER announce a product withe a release date again. They should squirrel away with the VC and profits from FPGAs then one day go:
"Oh hey everybody, you can buy this awesome device NOW, we have them in stock"

Ha! The greed here is so thick why do that when ppl will throw money at u?

Yeah,  as long as the price of bitcoin continues to rise when compared to fiat then it is a good idea for them since, I assume, they are paying all of their component manufacturers in fiat. The rise in bitcoin just means extra profit for them. If the price of bitcoin were to crash to $1 then I doubt they would continue to honor the current price.

I can tell you at least 10 goods or services sold in BTC and not pegged to fiat. First example: Avalon ASICs

Right, because REAL hackers can keep up with their 4GHz cpu and can check every command processed by it.

Yeah well, with the recent pricing of the avalons you can say that they generously float way above any pegged pricing.
The best bit is that avalon buys all its goods and services in fiat so they need to convert any bitcoins anyway.
They first peg their price, then start to move the peg around.
Expect stuff to start bleeding soon.
